i really like this ova series, it kinda has a .hack// sign feel but lighter, also girl kite reminds me of myself when it comes to mmos, loot everything sell stuff when your inventory overfills.

i watched the fist part this morning. It's just as good a sign in my opinion i like how there's look alikes from the games. i think it's funny that my anime site has the airing dates wrong it came out like a week or so ago but it says that it originally aired in December
@reinoheya .hack//Fragment was released on November 23rd, 2005. It was never released outside of Japan. It has about the same gameplay as .hack//Infection to Quarantine.
Watched the episode. the player character behind Sakuya(female kite) is the spitting image of the main character from K-on, Yui. The three main characters are all girls including the Balmung lookalike. Was a pretty good episode.
@MckaiserDragon It was already stated by the creators. Word of God says they aren't the same. On top of that, official sites, Wikipedia, and the material books also state that it is a different person.
@MckaiserDragon That makes no sense at all. Why would they change it if it was already stated to be canon? By now, Kite is 24 or 25, Sakuya's still in High School. She is already established as a female icon of the Link/Quantum era. They wouldn't randomly change it because that would actually hurt their marketing and they'd end up losing money over something like that with no explanation.
@MckaiserDragon No, that doesn't happen. There is no time travel in the .hack series. Seriously, pay attention to the plot. I just said Word of God (The creators of the whole series) stated they aren't the same people. Sakuya's player is a completely new character as stated. Watch the series, read the manga and play the games.

I don't know how it would scare you... well aside for Endrance and his stalking of Haseo and Tokio. And maybe the evil Aura in .hack//link. What scares me in the series are the Yandere characters like Atoli.

So they wanted their icon in every era. .hack//SIGN has Kite (Unison), .hack//Games has Kite, .hack//Twilight has Shugo and at the very end of the series Kite again, .hack//GU has Azure Kite, .hack//LINK has Kite & Shugo & Azure Kite & Kite (Sora). Quantum gets Sakuya. In the story, there's no rule that says you can't create a PC that looks like another person. Example: Subaru and Kaochin (who is a man in real life) in SIGN.

After SIGN comes the games (the manga isn't canon even though I like the human avatar of Cubia better), followed by .hack Twilight (Manga version. The anime isn't canon). The Roots/GU then LINK and Quantum. I dunno the placement of AI Buster or Fragment but I'm assuming before SIGN.

Its not kite, kite was from the first version (storyline year was 2007) this ova is based in revision:X taking place in 2020. The character you see is Sakuya, who based her character around kite. Same goes for the character who resembles balmung (Tobias) and blackrose like character (Mary).
Im glad the Dot hack series isn't going to die off just yet, i was really happy about Dot Hack Link and now this so i hope its gonna be as great as the other dot hack series

I have been a die-hard fan since .hack was started...but I think they need to stop reusing Kite's, Blackrose's, and Balmung's character concepts. Slowly with each change they hurt the love i've had for the story since I was 11.... :(
i really hope this is better then link (what the hell were they thinking when they made link?) and is it just me or did the BM in this ad sound like they were trying to copy yuki kajiura's music (the composer of the .hack//sign soundtrack)
If you look back on all the .hack games the main characters have all been boys in the game (Tsukasa was a girl in the real world). First I thought when I heard about Quantum "How will he look this time?". So it´s gonna be a girl, that´s kinda intresting ;)

Guys .hack//quantum is a new anime its a new generation of "The World" All the old characters are gone. And the characters in the video that look like the old cast are not the same people. It's just the same character not person. "The world" uses the same characters.
Maybe because "Sora" was just Sakuya/Aida WIP. Maybe when they were starting out with the idea they named her Sora, but later changed it. OR. Sora will be the name when it reaches the US?
I think this is pretty funny because Kite's outfit design was originally blueish green, but it turned orange when Aura gave him the bracelet. Unless her character is a special event gift like in Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, she shouldn't have that orange color. (Sorry if I sound like a know-it-all or something. I just read the books. ^^;)
@hippomanza True, but it never directly stated that it couldn't have been orange. And even if it couldn't have been in R:1, who's to say that they didn't add in the option with their character creation of an orange coloring. Like with the Shino's 2 outfits and Atoli's. It was stated, in Legend of the Twilight, I think, that they removed the ability to create a character copying any of the .hackers, though. But, y'know, it's not EXACTLY the same outfit for any of the returning characters, either.
@SonicZer02 Not Sora. Her character name is Sakuya (Real name isn't Sora, either). Apparently, she's a completely different character than the Sora-Kite from Link. Makes you wonder why they even put her in there if she wasn't gonna be used in the future...seeing as how this is supposed to be the last anime.
@exolden Eh... Maybe I wasn't clear. The name of the girl Kite's character in The World is Sakuya. Sakuya is her player name, like your online name is SonicZero02, while your real name is something different. In her case, her real name is Aida Asumi. No traces of a Sora in name or appearance, sadly.
For those who don't know (and I see thare are many:P) Quantum takes place in year 2020 so in other words The World isn't R:1 (Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, Quarantine) or R:2 (Rebirth, Reminisce, Redemption) but R: X (.Hack//Link for PSP).
This OVA takes place a year or 2 after the events in .Hack//Link and for those who played the game there is no surprise that there is now a female character that looks like Kite. I don't know what's so complicated in the story of .hack.
The Concept of .Hack is the most Ingenious idea ever, however they made it too complicated and Too much random crap for us to understand the story, other than that, its perfect everything else.
Hm, I wonder if this takes place before or after G.U. I'm actually excited to see how this goes, hopefully better then the movie.
(Belmung looks like a pretty boy now, Lol)
Also, my guess on why Kite's a girl now is that Kite got married, had a daughter, got into the game and started playing said game with the character design kite had when he played. Kind of like what happened with Mistral's character and all.

@MckaiserDragon No, that doesn't happen. There is no time travel in the .hack series. Seriously, pay attention to the plot. I just said Word of God (The creators of the whole series) stated they aren't the same people. Sakuya's player is a completely new character as stated. Watch the series, read the manga and play the games.

I don't know how it would scare you... well aside for Endrance and his stalking of Haseo and Tokio. And maybe the evil Aura in .hack//link. What scares me in the series are the Yandere characters like Atoli.

@MckaiserDragon Well, Kite is a famous character in the .hack series. So they wanted their icon in every era. .hack//SIGN has Kite (Unison), .hack//Games has Kite, .hack//Twilight has Shugo and at the very end of the series Kite again, .hack//GU has Azure Kite, .hack//LINK has Kite & Shugo & Azure Kite & Kite (Sora). Quantum gets Sakuya. In the story, there's no rule that says you can't create a PC that looks like another person. Example: Subaru and Kaochin (who is a man in real life) in SIGN.

Kite's player no longer plays. :( Other examples of look-alikes include Crim and Nuke Usagimaru, Rachel and Puchi, Sora and Moonstone, Natsume and A-20, Mimiru and BlackRose and Rena, Orca and Bear, Tsukasa and Elk, Atoli and Shino. Now, I will tell you who DID geta sex change: Bordueax. She was originally planed as a big buff muscle guy in the original prototype .hack GU...

@MckaiserDragon Well, you would need to start with .hack//ZERO. The first episode of SIGN immediately follows right after those events. After SIGN comes the games (the manga isn't canon even though I like the human avatar of Cubia better), followed by .hack Twilight (Manga version. The anime isn't canon). The Roots/GU then LINK and Quantum. I dunno the placement of AI Buster or Fragment but I'm assuming before SIGN.

@Suzumushi100 It's a novel. Sorry, I messed up the placement. .hack Zero comes after SIGN. I meant .hack//AI Buster (showing how Balmung and Orca became legends) and then .hack//Wotan's Spear, which is the one that shows the scenes before the first episode of SIGN.

Its not kite, kite was from the first version (storyline year was 2007) this ova is based in revision:X taking place in 2020. The character you see is Sakuya, who based her character around kite. Same goes for the character who resembles balmung (Tobias) and blackrose like character (Mary).

well........ alkaid, balmung, blackrose, atoli, aura and a female kite... im a fan of the .hack series but even i can see that their desperate for viewers.... i know that since THE WORLD is an MMORPG, it cant be helped if a lot of avatars looks alike.... i just hope the story isnt a recycled piece of crap Y.Y

I have been a die-hard fan since .hack was started...but I think they need to stop reusing Kite's, Blackrose's, and Balmung's character concepts. Slowly with each change they hurt the love i've had for the story since I was 11.... :(

If you look back on all the .hack games the main characters have all been boys in the game (Tsukasa was a girl in the real world). First I thought when I heard about Quantum "How will he look this time?". So it´s gonna be a girl, that´s kinda intresting ;)

Guys .hack//quantum is a new anime its a new generation of "The World" All the old characters are gone. And the characters in the video that look like the old cast are not the same people. It's just the same character not person. "The world" uses the same characters.

Maybe because "Sora" was just Sakuya/Aida WIP. Maybe when they were starting out with the idea they named her Sora, but later changed it. OR. Sora will be the name when it reaches the US?

I think this is pretty funny because Kite's outfit design was originally blueish green, but it turned orange when Aura gave him the bracelet. Unless her character is a special event gift like in Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, she shouldn't have that orange color. (Sorry if I sound like a know-it-all or something. I just read the books. ^^;)

@hippomanza True, but it never directly stated that it couldn't have been orange. And even if it couldn't have been in R:1, who's to say that they didn't add in the option with their character creation of an orange coloring. Like with the Shino's 2 outfits and Atoli's. It was stated, in Legend of the Twilight, I think, that they removed the ability to create a character copying any of the .hackers, though. But, y'know, it's not EXACTLY the same outfit for any of the returning characters, either.

@SonicZer02 Not Sora. Her character name is Sakuya (Real name isn't Sora, either). Apparently, she's a completely different character than the Sora-Kite from Link. Makes you wonder why they even put her in there if she wasn't gonna be used in the future...seeing as how this is supposed to be the last anime.

Sakuya is her player name, like your online name is SonicZero02, while your real name is something different. In her case, her real name is Aida Asumi. No traces of a Sora in name or appearance, sadly.

For those who don't know (and I see thare are many:P) Quantum takes place in year 2020 so in other words The World isn't R:1 (Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, Quarantine) or R:2 (Rebirth, Reminisce, Redemption) but R: X (.Hack//Link for PSP).
This OVA takes place a year or 2 after the events in .Hack//Link and for those who played the game there is no surprise that there is now a female character that looks like Kite. I don't know what's so complicated in the story of .hack.

Also, my guess on why Kite's a girl now is that Kite got married, had a daughter, got into the game and started playing said game with the character design kite had when he played. Kind of like what happened with Mistral's character and all.
