I attended Kaplan University Online for my Bachelor's degree and I loved it!!! Yes, I did have to take student loans, but so does everyone in every other school. They never lied to me about anything and my loans are exactly what they are supposed to be. For those below who comment that they took out loans without your knowledge or permission, you are not telling the truth. You have to electronically sign a Master Promissory Note on the FAFSA website with your PIN. They cannot do it for you. Sad!

OK--I attended Kaplan four years ago to recieve a Master Degree in Buis. Mngmt., only to be led in many dead ends in education that had nothing to do with accomplishing this. Was blocked, ignored, and lied to after 'completing' these BS courses! Just found out 2 days ago, after FAfSA rejection, that Kaplan opened up other loan accounts in my name that werent needed & kept the money!! This has NOTHING to do with my 'taking studies seriously, etc.' crap that I'm reading from here; It's about FRAUD

It seems to always be people who were not serious about their educations and turned to Kaplan for an education. You say you are someone who had to drop out of High School. I do not know your specifics but if I had to 'drop out' of High School, I would have obtained my HS Diploma on time via Night School. Im going on my 3rd term at kaplan and im definatly being ripped off with all the school loans right now. Ive only been going to school online since july 09 and i owe 23,000 in loans and im a single mother as well and only got 900.00 in a pell grant! Kaplan University is not along the same lines as the University of Phoenix infact it is linked to delivering education to students since 1937 then known as Quest College. I just finished my MSIT degree at Kaplan and worked my ass off to get achieve that goal. Kaplan is a great way to go if you are a business person with a family with no "extra" time. I spent roughly 20 hours per week on my studies because the Kaplan professors kicked my ass!! After it was all said and done I learned a ton and am now in the position for that next step up the corporate ladder.

@katchacha I am a student at Kaplan, and I can say I have learned a lot. I am an undergrad for graphic designing. After finishing my associates, I plan to work on my bachelors. I have not had any problems or complaints with the staff or the school. My adviser was honest straight forward with all my questions. They helped me get a Pell grant that was almost half of my tuition. I finished my first term with 96% in both of my classes and I can say I have learned a lot. I think it's a great school.
Why do you say that Kaplan is a rip-off. We do everything we can - in fact our management bends over backwards to make sure we say the right thing to our students and NEVER do or say anything fraudulent. I'm truly sorry if you had a bad experience. Sometimes people are mad at their own failures and blame some one or something else. I find so many of the employees truly caring, honest, people.

One more thing: Many community colleges and four year universities also offer online courses as well as evening courses for those who can't go into a classroom in the traditional manner. With a little research, flexiblity and determination, one will find that there are cheaper, and better ways to a better future without going the for-proit route. If anyone wants a good, reputable education, go to the local community college. Get the AA/AS degree offered, then transfer to a four year school for the BA/BS degree for a better education and by far cheaper. No legitimate university or employer will accept credits or degrees from Kaplan or schools like them.

The point I was making was there are a lot of reports on Kaplan and schools like them on various sites such as Consumer Affairs, Rip Off Report, etc. I realize some of the complaints may be simply disgruntled people, students and/or employees but that many can't be wrong. I was simply pointing out a cheaper and better alternative.

The price for the degree at the end was way more than it would be for community college and finishing at nearly any public university in this state. Over $45,000 for for most for-profits vs. $23,000 at CC/4 year school. The various sites such as Consumer Affairs, Rip Off Report, etc. have had similar complaints. The price and the lack of acceptance of credits or the degree was the deciding factor for me.

People complain about Cable or some other service on these type of forums or blogs. Comcast for instance has propable thirty million customers and I'm sure you could find a small number of those complaining which might equal 30 or 40 thousand. I attended Kaplan University Online for my Bachelor's degree and I loved it!!! Yes, I did have to take student loans, but so does everyone in every other school. They never lied to me about anything and my loans are exactly what they are supposed to be. For those below who comment that they took out loans without your knowledge or permission, you are not telling the truth. You have to electronically sign a Master Promissory Note on the FAFSA website with your PIN. They cannot do it for you. Sad!

OK--I attended Kaplan four years ago to recieve a Master Degree in Buis. Mngmt., only to be led in many dead ends in education that had nothing to do with accomplishing this. Was blocked, ignored, and lied to after 'completing' these BS courses! Just found out 2 days ago, after FAfSA rejection, that Kaplan opened up other loan accounts in my name that werent needed & kept the money!! This has NOTHING to do with my 'taking studies seriously, etc.' crap that I'm reading from here; It's about FRAUD

You say you are someone who had to drop out of High School. I do not know your specifics but if I had to 'drop out' of High School, I would have obtained my HS Diploma on time via Night School. I worked as a kid, never needed allowance. No excuses because I worked.

Kaplan University is not along the same lines as the University of Phoenix infact it is linked to delivering education to students since 1937 then known as Quest College. Democrats are more researched but less creditable in spreading propaganda with all for-profit-institutions. I just finished my MSIT degree at Kaplan and worked my ass off to get achieve that goal. Kaplan is a great way to go if you are a business person with a family with no "extra" time. I spent roughly 20 hours per week on my studies because the Kaplan professors kicked my ass!! After it was all said and done I learned a ton and am now in the position for that next step up the corporate ladder.
The $21K was money well spent; knowledge is power!

@katchacha I am a student at Kaplan, and I can say I have learned a lot. I am an undergrad for graphic designing. After finishing my associates, I plan to work on my bachelors. I have not had any problems or complaints with the staff or the school. My adviser was honest straight forward with all my questions. They helped me get a Pell grant that was almost half of my tuition. I finished my first term with 96% in both of my classes and I can say I have learned a lot. I think it's a great school.

With a little research, flexiblity and determination, one will find that there are cheaper, and better ways to a better future without going the for-proit route. going to pay any kind of bill that didnt explain what I was being charged for and just had a dollar amount on it. I also told them I wanted exactly the last day I logged on to Kaplan. Because I was still in the time frame that if I quit I would get 90% reimbursed. Needless to say its now almost sept. and I havn't heard anything from Kaplan or the collections. When I called into the school I would be on hold for hours and then transferred to very bob-dick n Henry that "worked" there but never was anyone able to answer my questions or un enroll me. I got a letter from Kaplan back in May stating I owed the school 2,000 plus bucks. I got another letter in June from Kaplans collection agency. So I called them. The first time I was hung up on because I wouldnt give them my ssn #. So I called back and got through to the wim wits. I told them I wasnt

Ok if ya'll are done acting like 10 years olds. More about the actual video. I enrolled into Kaplan in Dec. of 09' after being pushed and told this was a great opportunity and I shouldn't miss out. The guy enrolling me even cried on the phone!!! After going for 2 weeks I got my head outta my ass and reliezed Kaplan had lied to me about numerous things. I was still in the time slot to un enroll. But my emails and voice mails to my advisor where never returned.

@pepeluisbanda2 All of the for profit schools have stories like this. UoP, Kaplan, DeVry, Strayer, etc. Google them with the word "scam" and see for yourself. If anyone wants a good, reputable education, go to the local community college. Get the AA/AS degree offered, then transfer to a four year school for the BA/BS degree for a better education and by far cheaper. No legitimate university or employer will accept credits or degrees from Kaplan or schools like them.

@annihilator1100 None of mine do. This is likely due to the fact most of my contacts work for major companies. If the Kaplan route worked for you, congratulations. The point I was making was there are a lot of reports on Kaplan and schools like them on various sites such as Consumer Affairs, Rip Off Report, etc. I realize some of the complaints may be simply disgruntled people, students and/or employees but that many can't be wrong. I was simply pointing out a cheaper and better alternative.

The price for the degree at the end was way more than it would be for community college and finishing at nearly any public university in this state. Over $45,000 for for most for-profits vs. $23,000 at CC/4 year school. The various sites such as Consumer Affairs, Rip Off Report, etc. have had similar complaints. The price and the lack of acceptance of credits or the degree was the deciding factor for me.

People complain about Cable or some other service on these type of forums or blogs. Comcast for instance has propable thirty million customers and I'm sure you could find a small number of those complaining which might equal 30 or 40 thousand. I just graduated and am working on my next degree. And it is called finding a job that will help pay for your education... they do exist out there! That does not make you a victim lol How many scholarships have you applied for? There are things you can do... all universities cost money lol My moms company paid for 100% of her tuition... mine pays up to 20%... just do research... this stuff isnt just given to you.
