  • Thanks for uploading, I really appreciated it. Great movie :]

  • This followed the book so well!

  • Oh my gosh im like dying on the floor right now from laughing so hard!!! This is hilarious!

  • Holy crap! It actually follows the book!

  • The phantom was supposed to be an artistic prodigy, right? Is it musical genius that makes him play out of key?

  • i am going to watch the original in my language arts class and i have to say i love the movie and it shouldnt become a cartoon its just stupid even my best friend who is obessed with this movie and book says that

  • This is hilarious! :D

  • Just when I thought Erik was actually going to die of a broken heart, the ceiling collapses. I guess "I'm dying, Daroga, of love," just isn't exciting enough?

  • I like this film allot and accurate in most parts. I like the phantoms voice as well.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! This is by far the best depiction of Monsieur. Leroux's book I've ever seen.

  • The only good part about this cartoon is Erik's voice and hearing him say some of the best lines from the Leroux novel. Seriously, when is there going to be a GOOD version that's accurate to the original book? The Lon Chaney film was pretty accurate, but it had to screw it all up with the stupid ending where the Phantom is killed by the mob.

  • @phangirl1986 They did have the alternate ending where the phantom lets christine go with raoul and when she gives him back his ring, he dies of a broken heart :(

  • One of My Favorite Quotes from Phantom......

  • The Grasshopper or the Scorpion ?---

They were to be Buried under the ruins of the Paris Grand Opera. The Monster had given her until 11 o'clock in the evening. He had chosen his time well. There would be many people, many members of the human race up there in the resplended theatre. What finer retinue could be expected for his Funeral? He would go down to the tomb, escorted by the whitest shoulders in the World, decked with the richest of jewels.--

  • 11 o'clock Tomorrow Evening....

We were All to be Blown Up in the middle of the performance if Christine Daie said 'No'. And what else could Christine say but 'No'? Would she not prefer to espouse Death itself, rather than that Living Corpse? She did not know that upon her acceptance or refusal depended the Awful Fate of many members of the Human Race.

  • Oh Gott ist das bescheuert.

Da kann man ja garnicht hinsehen.

  • Even though it's animated the "acting" is so fake!!

  • so Erik died of organ failure at the end of this...huh.

  • i think out of all the phantoms, this phantom is the one that gives me the most chills. only cuz there are soo many close ups lol. and they're all the same

  • @Yetiwow racist

  • i love how this kept more true to the book than most of the other movies. I love the Torture chamber and the drama of destroying the whole opera house. " what finer retinue for a funeral could be expected. than to go down to the grave, escorted with the whitest of shoulders, decked with the richest of jewels" ( in the book 11` o'clock was the fateful hour. at that time the theatre was full with all of high society enjoying a play. how awful that would have been.

  • This film is available from Amazon.com in VHS video form. Yay!!

  • His lair isnt crumbling! Its shaking! :D

  • "first time a living woman kissed me and did not die..." Uh, was there a living woman that had kissed him and had died?

  • @TiffanyLiu93 yes his poor unhappy mother

  • phantom of the opera is based on real events

it was based of reports filed in paris

the author of the phantom of the opera found christine dae diary

he then wrote the book we know today

everything you know about erik is a lie

his face wasn't bad looking it was a like a real human

  • @jackiedoit1 i would thumbs up on your comment a thousand times if I could

  • @jackiedoit1 The only reason they made his face so "horrid" is because no one wants some normal man playing tricks with the theater. They wanted more to the story. I am a fan of heartbreaking, tragic stories myself so I would understand why he made Erik's physical appearance and past so horrible. And wow! I had no idea that happened! Cool!

  • @twilightdweller1 Eriks in the leroux book probably had the disease called porphyria. If someone who has this disease is exposed to sunlight, they can get permanent scarring, or worse, in just a few hours. In extreme cases the nose, lips and eyelids may get lost. If the condition progresses, the patient could get liver damage as well, and be as thin as a corpse all their lives.

  • @twilightdweller1 Liver failure that gets really bad causes yellowing of the skin and may cause death. The nervous system may be affected leading to hallucinations, depression, anxiety, and paranoia. In the old days, people with PCT often wore long, dark clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and masks to prevent further sun damage.

  • @MyCoffeeLove holy shit, that's some incredible research. that's perhaps what Erik had (if he were indeed a real person or based off a real person, as some say), but because in the olden days they knew next to nothing of medicine, he was feared instead of pitied.

    wow. the more you know.

  • @jackiedoit1 would you be able to give me the source of this info? I've been looking for it for months!!

  • @jackiedoit1 what dairy i never heard of a dairy?

  • @jackiedoit1 do not listen to this comment i wrote i remember getting this information from some website

  • @jackiedoit1 do not listen to this comment i wrote i remember getting this information from some website

do not listen to this comment ok have a nice day

  • @jackiedoit1 The face was normal?!

  • OMG EPIC LOL!!!

  • Is it messed up that I LMAO when he said for once a woman kissed me and didn't die XD

  • @purple8381 I was like ".....This makes me wonder who kissed you to start with? I don't think Luciana did... did she?" (and did I spell her name right??? The daughter of the mason erik worked for)

  • what a horrible way of die for the poor erik!!! he doesnt deserve it!!! I dont know if it was worst to die alone like at the book or die like this!!!

  • @ktabella13 I agree, how I would much rather see Lennie [Of Mice and Men] smash Curley's hand-bone and all into millions of tiny pieces than go through the many stigmas and disgriminations that Erik faced!

  • "I will blow everything UP!"

    Like his ceiling.

  • it's hilarious how they have those pauses between about each sentence. =D

  • Hey, they didn´t kiss! I WANT MY MONEY BACK! :OOO

tho i love the ending :)

  • It looks like scooby doo

  • I.....this reminds of me of Sealab. I can't help it.

  • its so stupid, yet so cool

  • What's with the Indian sidekick? Who is Raul in this one, Johnny Quest?

  • @DigitalJediMaster that was the Persian. Have you read the book?

  • The animation isn't that great, even for its time era, but the voice acting holds up surprisingly well for the most part.

  • HAHAHAHAHA! ! ! ! ! sad movie, but they just dont move! ! ! I'm this experienced, and i've only been at it a year. . . okay, now they move, but still, i can do most of this

  • imagine gerard butler as this phantom. in more or less the same room as the persian. gerard butler, and a persian. i think you know what comes next. ;)

  • So playing the organ causes the ceiling to fall in? What the heck?

The original ending was so...heartbreaking, and then this?

It's the closest to the novel I've ever seen, though. So it's definitely got that....and the music wasn't bad, either.

  • @lolkittehs34 organs were so big and shattering back then, that its possible

  • I like the ending where he dies of a broken heart, not where the negligent treatment of his ceiling eventually causes it to stand up for its damn self and kill him.

Shoulda' gone to Home Depot. They have things for that.

    This comment made no sense.

  • @lilrowyravenclaw lol, i don't think they had stuff like that in old france. epic comment, by the way

  • It's really scary in some point.

    5/5

  • im not a big fan of this version just cuz its cartoon. . . if they would make a real life version of this id like it better

  • @JZMZ68 im not a huge fan of this version either..for me tho, it's more the bad choice of voice acotrs and very poor animation quality...but i agree, a live action that's close to the book would be amazing.

  • What is this called? I can't find the title any where. I know its Phantom of the opera, but where can I find it?

  • @Fanpireof08 I think it used to be in the kids section, aroun the time of my pet monster, and lady lovely locks (i used to watch all the previews before (and after) my old videos, thats how i know). ebay, or trademe might help, too

  • What year is this movie? I want to get it in my language

  • @ iamnowchristine...I had totally forgotten about the wishbone version lol thanks for reminding me

  • @EnvysSecretLover The plot in the Wishbone reality was really dull for that one.

  • raoul looks like a gay italian figure skater

  • @PowahBlasta Your comment sir, caused me to crack up and eventually start choking. But that's okay, it was totally worth it. :)

  • @ 4:12

"Tra La La! Tra La Laaaaaa!"

  • WTF????????????????

  • The best version since 1929. Even then, the cartoon's ending is more in keeping with the spirit of the novel than the Chaney version.

  • Evidently the ceiling was so fed up with Erik's bad playing that it just capsizes on him.

  • I love it- "They are drowning the gunpowder in the cellars.....and your weird friends."

  • poor unhappy Erik. I wanna hug him SO BAD!

  • XD In the words of the Phantom Reviewer: "I don't remember Erik as a cat-killing transvestite who gets crushed by his own ceiling!"

  • Poor Erik =( I wish he'd had the same death as in the book, but can't be perfect.

  • NO! BAD ENDING! Sorry, I've never gotten over how I wanted Christine to learn to love Erik...freaking Raoul.

  • It's not just a misunderstood deformed man though, he's a homicidal maniac. It's a seriously abusive relationship.

  • im looking 4 the GHOST STORIES VERSION from the same company. its a charles dickens story

  • I love this version!!!

  • This version and the 1925 version are the only two that I have seen that are remotely faithful to the story

  • @EnvysSecretLover Oddly, the Wishbone version was very faithful. But, as the Phantom Reviewer points out, Raoul is A FREAKING DOG!!! (lol)

  • wow. His face isn;t as bad as I thought it would be.

  • Um. ...Why did the place suddenly start to collapse?

  • @Donteatacowman I think he wanted it to because he said that he was now ready to die.

  • Okay. He's the architect, so I guess that makes sense.... I didn't realize he actually meant suicide though. :o

  • AHH!!! This dialogue breaks my heart!!

Fave part is when Christine throws a perfume bottle at Raoul though. And second would be Raoul's terrible rhett butler stash and sideburns.

  • I love this movie. Best Phantom version ever.

  • This animation is pretty terrible quality.

It's no offense to anybody who loves it, but when Christine puts her hands over her eyes, it doesn't even look like they're even part of her body, or part of the same person, the skin tones are completely different.

Oh, and for you people badmouthing the 1989 film... it's not that bad, it's just different. It got a lot of negative reviews because people wanted something like the musical to note though.

  • idiot. the animation was done years before new machines for animation was made. you fail to sound like a cool critic. moron

  • I'm sorry, but in that case they could have at least used the same paint color.

I was trying to sound like a "cool critic"? You think you can just go out and call people morons when you can only type in lowercase letters?

    Never mind...

  • idiot. 100% IDIOT. the style of drawing/coloring/painting or whatever you fucking call it is DIFFERENT back then! why dont you make your own fucker of the opera then? lets see if you can make a better one.

  • I'm sorry... what in the world is your problem?

  • my dick. can you scratch it for me?

  • You don't have a dick, or a brain for that matter.

And for the record, a simple Bugs Bunny cartoon didn't have the animation errors that this thing from 1982 had, so my statements still stand firm you worthless troll.

  • omfg. now thats 200% stupidity for the record. dont have a brain? dude, i just like countered all of your stupid criticism. bugs bunny? yeah you know why? COZ IT ALSO DEPNDS ON THE COMPANY DOIN THE CARTOON YOU FUCKING MORON. my god. i always have an answer for all the things you say. i aint that smart dont worry. you're juz PLAIN STUPID. a FUCKING MORON haha!

  • I said it was terrible quality.

All you have is name calling and statements of the obvious which don't help your argument whatsoever.

You're not worth my time at all. Listen to yourself, the crude animation is supposed to be okay because they didn't pay a lot of money on it like a good company would? That's even dumber than what you claim.

I'm done with you, because you're a worthless troll wanting to start fights. Your next response can have all the pointless insults you want retard.

  • omfg. no time but look at all our comments =)) you're indeed a fucking moron hahaha!! you're so judgemental you dont even notice the things you're saying are for kids. fuckin frootloop. like i said before. you fail to sound like a good critic. go criticize your mumma's hole DUM-ASS =))

  • @sonic8005 wow, that gnomescarf guy is pretty crazy. Don't listen to him.

  • This is the version that is most faithful to the book.

  • He didn't sing in this one...

  • ....this is so special and i'm a huge fan to...but this makes me laugh!

  • I completely agree with you. I'm a huge fan too but this makes me laugh. I can't believe it scared me as a child.

  • this actually insults my intelligence! holy crap! my IQ is dropping by the second!

  • LOL! Yeah... it's pretty bad. I have to go watch the 2004 movie now or listen to the original soundtrack to take it seriously again. On a scale, it's as bad as the 1989 version with Robert Englund.

  • i have to agree with you! that was a bad version! have u seen the 1990 version with Charles Dance? it rocked my socks! it was an Erik with a sense of humor! i'm going to end this now or i think i'll shoot myself if i hear anymore of this!

  • @Uphadis The Robert Englund version wasn't THAT bad. True, it wasn't at all faithful to the book, but you have to bear in mind that the crazy plotholes mostly exist because they couldn't make it two movies like they wanted. Not enough money, you know. And the look on his face when Christine is on stage! Priceless kid-in-a-candy-store moment. Charles Dance had a better version to work with, though.

  • Thank you for such a glorious recreation of the original vhs animated Phantom. I just received the vhs from ebay but a dvd is impossible to find. This is just perfect. Very faithful to the Leroux story.

  • That was pretty freaking awesome, thanks for posting. If this is actually available anywhere I'll definately pick it up.

Not bad looking, pretty damn accurate, they aknowledged he had a name, Raoul was adoreable and Nadir is a badass as usual. The ending may have been different but it was certianly an interesting take on things. Awesome cartoon.

  • WOW the plot really moves in this cartoon. But it's really accurate!

  • EPIC FAIL.

  • 0_o ..................... WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow, this is a major fail.

  • OMG how is it a major fail?!!!

The Phantom looks how he does more in the book and this is actually close to the book in a shortend version!!!

You want a fail one? Watch the 1998 version with Robert Englund!

  • 1989 and that ones a twist version

  • In this cartoon, I dont see Erik as a man, or a person.... He is just a skeleton...

  • He's still a human being. I love Erik <3

  • Yah, I like him too :) I just think that I would like him in the cartoon to, if he had another look

  • This is more based on his appearance in the book. He was described as slightly more skeletal like.

  • Slightly? More like he is! He's featured as the Living Corpse at the circus when he was just a child.

I love this cartooon because it keeps it closer to the Leroux version than any other portrayal to date. (Or at least 'til the very end -- I guess dying of a broken heart isn't exciting enough.)

  • I must say he has a great Phantom voice! Well done!

  • Memories, oh sweet memories!

  • I love how Erik says "I will blow everything UP!"

  • The persian's voice was AWFUL but I loved Erik's voice!

  • I know! Erik's voice was so awesome! : )

  • 4:53 oh yeah Cristine you barely notice that?? Christ man and she still destroyed him!!

  • Erik always and forever. Crawl in a hole and die Raoul!

  • Now THAT"S how you bring down the house!

  • One of my favourite version...my poor Erik and Scorpion 4ever!

  • Scorpion!!! I say scorpion!

  • Poor Erik :[

  • the phantom is beautiful and the best everywhere!!!wow!:)i love Erik!!!!!!!

  • wellp, i liked it it was cool i mean i like the ALW one it was better than i expected

  • Can you upload the one with the ghost stories, with the pickweep club?

  • which one? dunno what you are refering to :x

  • You mean, this is only movie you know from Emerald City Productions?

  • yes

  • @MsBreaggats What about Les Miserables? They made one for that, I'm pretty sure.

  • @lilrowyravenclaw I dont have it

  • @lilrowyravenclaw REALLY?? I want that!

  • @phantompersian Les Mis? Well, I found it, so you're in luck! It's not great...like, at all...It's actually pretty sucky.

  • The Magnus Opus was incredible.

  • I love the dramatic zoom-in on the Persian's and Raoul's faces combined with the drum-roll...thanks for posting!

  • Thank you for posting this video. Despite the repeated animation (it was made in the 80s so what can you do?), it beats out Gerard Butler any day. This version actually stood truest to the novel, using even the actual, most pivotal lines penned by Leroux.

The Persian's finally in here and given a voice! Yays!

Wish they would've kept the ending with Erik dying in 3 weeks.

And thanks for the painstaking Portuguese translation -- it's rather helpful for my Spanish exam. XD

  • Thank you for posting this! This is one of the versions that is wonderfully true to Leroux! I love it.

1 question though: Why is Erik green? He's supposed to be pale/white!?

  • He's supposed to be a nasty yellowish color isn't he??

  • Umn....Ok??

  • Before I even saw the film, I collected a timeline of stills from it. I slowly watched them, one after the other, and I was already crying at the end. You can imagine my reaction at actually watching it.

  • the phantom is creepy in this

  • Thank, thank and one more thank you very much... Very similar to original book version. Erik is in my dreams... I would stay with him.

  • So happy its like the book.

This is why I love Erik so much.

He's so sweet at the end...

  • Being a thoroughly obsessed girl,- as evidenced by my username- I am very glad that these have been posted, since the ones I had favourited before were removed.

The Portuguese is very nice, as well- it's very useful, in study of conjugation. ^^ Thanks again for posting!

  • Thank you for uploading these. They're wonderful :).

  • Oh, poor Erik. ={

    [From Diego's Sister]

  • 这部动画是我童年的梦!!我永远不会忘!

  • Thanks so much for uploading this, I've been wanting to see it for years!

  • It's been years since I've seen it. It's great to see it again.

  • Despite the cheesiness of the animation, I really liked this. Heck, I almost liked it as much as the 1925 silent movie. This thing went almost exactly to the book.

This was really good, and I'm glad I spotted it. :)

    Thanks for uploading these!

  • The animation wasn't cheesy. This is the way REAL animation looks. Unlike the crappy computer stuff of the past 10 years.

  • I love Erik in this. he seems so.. emotional.
