And giovani's embouchure is excelent, i'm trying to get this "not smile" embouchure(remember that j. galway says smile embouchure is no good), but this isn't easy .
Merci encore!
@annodog Arayn? Are you talking about the term which was supported by Nazis? If you do, be aware of today's scientific achievement in genetic research. There is no such an aryan race. Europe consists of different people.
@Revolutionarist88 Actually there was. They were the ancestors of the Persians and were conquerors in India (which should explain what they looked like)
this is the first movement from the last suite. It is very difficulty music but Giardino Harmonico makes it sound like a walk in the park - Ghielmi is so assured on his seven-string basse de viole and Maestro Onofri is so elegant and feeling....what an exquisite performance!
P. Memelsdorff
maybee you need to remind you of a great aristo called frederick the great, hwo played verry good the travers flutist and was student of j. j. quantz.
Excellent performance by Il Giardino Armonico! Too bad they don't have an album of these pieces out, they're really top-notch performers.
I had been balking at Rameau's chamber music, but after having this piece stuck in my head for the last few days I think I'll have to pick some up! Thanks for uploading this.
I quite agree - this music was recorded first and then the film made at a later date. Ottavio Dantone on the harpsichord obviously forgot which manual to play - 0:37 sounds like the top manual in the recording but the film shows him playing the bottom!
This is about a piece of music, not a feature film.
For someone who plays some of the instruments himself, it is irritating to watch the exaggerated make-believe movements of the non-players. Suspension of disbelief is then simply impossible. But let others enjoy !
Have you not noticed that in NONE of the videos that the picture is not synchronized with the sound received. They could all be actors following this criteria.
I have played in concert these pieces several times and I don´t get the feeling that they are faking it. They are real musicians because their movements are of someone who is actually playing.
Every time you see an opera, you are seeing a totally false illusion, scenery, costumes, people who die who are not dead.
As I said before, it is cleverly filmed. But I prefer a real performance (filmed live) to a mimicked one even if it widens the appeal to novices to Baroque music. If these are the real musicians, they are making a mockery of their art by this kind of pantomime. But feel free to like it. (This comment is not about the musical performance, which is good).
They are real musicians because each of these people are members of Il Giardino Armonico!!!! For instance, the one playing violin is Enrico Onofri, concert master of the group. Look up other Il Giardino Armonico videos and you will recognize them.
Why can't musicians have a little fun, dress up, and make a music video? I guess Telemann was making a mockery of his art when he wrote "La Bizarre" and "Les vielles femmes".

The bottom line is that I love these recordings of Rameau´s pieces de concert. I love everything about them because it is as close as I can ever get to the real experience of living in that time.
Well I must say that the music is also quite energetic. We always have a bit of a feeling that eveyting is also at a slower pace.
But who knows, perhaps the composers of these kinds of baroque music also intended it as fast and energetic, and perhaps they preferrd this quick way of montage to stress the energy of the piece...
