The music is very Hermannesque, viz Bernard Hermann's theme to Hitchcock's film "Psycho", the staccato strings etc. Like many of our generation, Mr.Elfman spent a lot of time at the cinema and in front of TV, when television wasn't so inane & banal as it is nowadays. Nevertheless Elfman's music is neither a pastiche or derivative, as his music has a distinctive signature & unique quality, like any great composer.
