  • 4 people would not know good music if it hit them in the head

  • even johns collar is grooving out

  • this is bitchin

  • 2:58 ....

  • were are their suits!!!!!

  • I wish I woke up and watched this..

  • If this came on tv in the morning in England I would literally die of happiness

  • haha steve reppin the hat...i wish john would drop a couple studio albums with the trio they are so good

  • @anotherguitargod The album Contunuum has both the other gentlemen in this trio on it.

  • This is a beautiful guitar!

  • Bottom Line: everyone can hate but noone can deny the skills of this man.

  • the glare off pino's guitar is killing me

  • Plz tell me wgat key this is in. And what scale or mode does he use in the solo?

  • @seanshowtime1996 Mayer is too good to stick to one of anything. He uses melodic harmonic natural and pentatonic minor. A minor in general.

  • @SilentlyintheShadows but what key is the song in?

  • @seanshowtime1996 I told you. A minor.

  • @SilentlyintheShadows cant be.theres a f# minor chord in there and the main riff has the major third

  • @seanshowtime1996 It's John Fucking Mayer. Irregular chords galore. Try Neon: He uses Abm7 and Bbm7.

Accidentals, my friend. The notes are A (C G#) (C# A) G A C G C A. The major third harmonizes between both the leading tone and the mediant, and the tonic and the sharp mediant. voila.

  • @SilentlyintheShadows you sure about neon having Abm and Bbm ? I'm pretty sure its Ab and Bb

  • @takemetodamovies It's during the bridge to the solo.

  • @LNOL I see, not to sound dumb or anything, but how'd you figure that out? by ear?

  • @takemetodamovies Well, you can hear that the some tones in those chords are not from the C aeolian scale, and you can visualize the notes on the guitar neck and see the chords. It's particularly easy to see on Neon because the chord shape does not change as the bass note changes through F, G, Ab, and Bb.

  • @LNOL i see i see, thanks. Hopefully this isnt another dumb question, but is there any rules as to how these accidentals work??

  • What a way to say "good morning". love it

  • is he pro?

  • is it me or at :29 seconds they get a little off beat????

  • @tipc843 they are allowed to get a little off tempo as long as they do so together.

  • @2handsforchrist thats the thing...it was not together. Hence Off Beat

  • @tipc843 i said the same thing haha, well they recovered like pros :P

  • @tipc843 I don't know... I think they try something... but stay inside tempo

  • @ sumamme

what people don't understand is that pino's doing a solo the whole time. the drummer and lead guitarist just back him up.

    pino's got mad solo skills

  • lol, nice

  • pino´s playing is out of this world

  • his voice is the sexiest thing since sliced bread

  • you find sliced bread sexy? :) you must get aroused when the toaster pops

  • lol its just a phrase me and my friends say and weirdly i hate toast ! :)

  • john mayer is awesome but i don't think his voice is fit for the blues, his blues guitar is good too

  • this was like, 4 years ago... but u do have a point.. although his voice does improve a lot... but i see where ur getting at from this preformance

  • that shit was tight! that crowd did not do the performance justice! someone should've popped a blood vessel screaming for that!

  • I think its safe to say that John was not influenced by Jimi Hendrix haha

  • everyone who hates on john mayer man i swear this guy hes is lik e...no words .....hes just simply great GENIUS!!

  • Does anybody know what brand of cabinets Pino uses??

  • In this video he's using Epifani.

  • @TonyDanza1 Is he using just 15's or what?

  • I swear everything this man touches turns into beautiful music. This is gold.

  • YES!

I like the last guitar solo, John Mayer has talent.

  • hahah the last solo is mostly what would be his vocals nah nahh nah nahh hahah good stuff thou right ure awesomeness hah a=D

  • hard to believe the age dif between mayer and the other 2 and how they just unite to form such a great band

  • Man... that echo kills it, still badass song though

  • steve jordan w/ hat = essence of coolness.

  • I concur

  • John Mayer is amazing.

  • The slowed down tempo is defentely noticeable. Makes the song kinda more 'groovy'.

On a totally unrelated note, was that granny holding a sign saying 'The BOOTY' at the end? 'WTF?' comes to mind.

  • It's not the same tempo, its a little bit slowly, you can notice easy in the gutiar when he said parts like " and i'm sh...of i'm a shape in" in the F#.

  • Yeah it's noticeably slower than the other live versions of it I've heard. I guess early mornings do that haha.

  • Comment removed

  • it sounds better faster, "where the light is" is my favourite version

    but great song

  • its actually the same tempo. If you were to play the two verisons at the same time, the tempo would be same. It just sounds slower for reason I don't know

  • Seems like they slowed it down a bit yea?...

  • yeh they actully did.. this is a good time to use this video as a tutorial... if u can keep up with john mayer's awesomeness

  • no i don't think it's slower. just listened to the album version (try) and it's pretty close to the same tempo.

  • Hmmmm........I've been listening to the album version for over 2 years (No, I listen to other songs too.) and I can tell a difference. Not big, but there is one.

  • My neighbor was just watching this with me and said "Olny a fag like John Mayer would play a gay guitar like that", little does he know that he is insulting his favorite "guitar hero" Jimi Hendrix

    Who else hates ignorant assholes?

  • hahaha. that's so hilarious.

  • haha ur neighbour's an R-Tard

  • my friend said the same damn thing!! bahahahah i was like uhhh u know thats a hendrix guitar right? haha

  • @iplayguitar420 ya dog

  • @iplayguitar420 ahahaha!!! THAT IS SOME FUNNY SHIT!!

  • @iplayguitar420 He could be playing a hello kitty guitar for all I care. This is a fuckin good song!

  • @SanoShimano :D

  • @iplayguitar420

Why would he give a shit what guitar he's playing

  • @Gaz405th cuz he is judging mayer's skills on the guitar based on his assumption that mayer is playing a "girly" guitar with "pretty" flowers on it

  • Comment removed

  • @iplayguitar420 ha ha that made me giggle

  • @iplayguitar420 that was actually pete townshends guitar too

  • @BryceShuster haha yea i knowm pete let him borrow the guitar for monterey pop but jimi "sacrificed" it before he could give it back!!

  • @iplayguitar420 Your neighbour does not play the guitar does he? This song is a rhythmic challenge I tell you ;)

  • @grubnetseor he does (and thinks he's amazing) up untill recently he has played death metal exclusively

  • @iplayguitar420 dude i have friends like that and sometimes i just can't stand it. their jokes are horrible and i just look at them straight-faced. Then they try to act like they know why what you're into is cool and they are just so off the mark. I need more friends that play music

  • @iplayguitar420 Instead of having such negative feelings, we should pity those who are unable to enjoy the musical genius of John Mayer.

  • @iplayguitar420 lol that's so fucking stupid. i would kill for a guitar as beautiful as john's.

  • @RoKr93 That is a reproduction of Jimi Hendrix's Monterey Pop Strat!! only 1out of 100... $10,000 per guitar..

  • All those smiling Chink Faces.

  • Look at all those beautiful Chinks in the audience at 2:57.

  • JMT is the only group, when someone as popular as John joins, and the other musicians feel just as important as John. Like Daughtry, seems like it's him, and a backup band...where as the Trio feels like Pino and Steve are just as necessary.

  • plus its in the morning, which makes a difference

  • Pause @ 2:58..... ROFL!!!! Go Granny!!!!!

  • outstanding! other than that, i'm speechless

    he's that amazing

  • great...i don't care if he comes after Hendrix ,SRV...he is here now and to me he is the only one rocking out there!

  • @themoreorless yea and guys like hendrix and SRV came after legends like buddy guy and b.b. king.

  • @themoreorless well have you ever heard Derek Trucks? I believe he's next in line after SRV

  • @hotlanta71

more like after Elmore James or Duane Allman.

  • @surfer1211 I'd put Duane above SRV, that's why I said that. So many players can be said as awesome playing lead, but then Duane Allman has the slide and decimates everyone before or after

  • @hotlanta71

Yeah I see your point. This all just proves that everything is based on preference and opinion. There's no right or wrong answer; each conclusion is based on what we like and what we define as best/favorite. Regardless; SRV or Duane, John or Derek, they're all great in their own right. It's the reason people "argue," or even just talk about all of them; because they're the greats. For my picks I like SRV and especially John Mayer, he's my idol hah, but that doesn't make you wrong.

  • time travel him back to 70's

  • Why hes already won 5 Grammys now?

  • exactly, i mean than i a good sense

you shoudn't have given me thumb's down

he's the best of the blues

he should be where his talent is best appreciated..

    i'am his fan too.

  • :) I was just saying I like him here now.

  • His tone in this video is badass... so Hendrix

  • LMAO i forgot what time it was then

+ jet lag hahah poor john.

  • yeah like 5 grand

  • im inlove with you john mayer:)

  • that is such a SICK guitar

i would buy that if it fender were making them...and if i had money

  • Ya, its beautiful. Too bad Jimi burned the original haha. But it was all in fun. Kenny Wayne Shephard also uses this guitar sometimes.

  • this isn't one of his best... for me it sounds really off... pretty damn good at guitar tho

  • Yeah. Where the Light is version is much better in my opinion.

  • He seems a little tired.

  • Must been from all that touring.

This is around the time he started playing blues every night.

  • a good morning america show vs a huge show that he spent so much time on

    what do u expect

  • this is the fucking today show with like 25 people. wonder why where the light is would be better

  • is there a reason why bands don't sound quite right when they are in a really artifical studio environment. It's something to do with the acoustics, but what exactly. I love mayer but i hate these live studio performances, because all the music and magic just get sucked up. I can't put my finger on it!?!

  • rock & roll at 8 in the morning is never quite right...

  • Mayer is the Man!

I'm gonna learn to play this sing and Neon

  • To play that and sing, maaaaaaad skills.

  • Tottaly awesome!!!

  • steve jordan and john mayer equal total domination.

  • what about PINO!

  • yeah, he's a fucking beast too. they have such a badass groove together. it's like every generation has badass trio's. 60's had Hendrix and Cream, 70's (please fill me in), 80's Double Trouble, 90's Nirvana (not same type of music, but still good), 2000's John Mayer Trio.

  • nirvana sucks

  • everyone's got an opinion man.

  • the police also fit into the 80s, and for 70's you can count led zeppelin if you only count instruments

  • Nirvana does suck and for the 70's you can throw Robin Trower in there.

  • i would have to disagree 2000's for me would have to be BRMC 70's would have to be rush

  • john butler trio is also heaps good :)

  • That strat's so great, dang.

    John mayer is great.

  • john's guitar was drawn by futura

  • I love how he sings: 'here is a line that you won't understand' haha, it's early! AWESOME performance.

  • I saw Hendrix using that strat too..

  • haha yeah Hendrix happened to light his on fire. I would kill for the one of the replicas to bad they are around 15,000, or so I am told.

  • Yeah.. that was in the Monterey Pop Festival

  • My guess would be the guy from "Train"

  • Haha the lady at 2:58 - does her sign say "The Booty?" - she looks so clueless!

  • This has to be the best live recording of this on tape.

  • johns tone on the fender here is fuckin sick, killer skills.

  • There is a definite Stevie Ray Vaughan vibe flowing through this song. Great track!

  • that is one FAT riff!!!!

  • omgosh..omgosh!!!i love john mayer...his so great..love you mayer always!!!you music rocks!!!love you:)

  • 2:6 that was funny his voice crack up but hey his human!

  • I bet that was recorded super early, they all seem a little tired

  • even though his voice cracked it still didn't sound to terrible.

  • I know it's a hard thing to call someone #1 but drum stick for drum stick Steve Jordan is hands down the finest drummer to take a seat... Bonham included.

  • umm...Carter Beauford? Don't get me wrong Steve Jordan is funky but I'm pretty sure Carter was made from God's rythmn hand.

  • Carter is amazing but he over plays for my palate...

  • They're soo good. Steve Jordan and Pino are both amazing too. I hope they do more albums together. Either way I hope John releases a new one soon.

  • looove that guitar

  • i didnt hear shit. he was perfect. john mayer is amazin and so is the trio

  • These guys are like the modern Jimi Hendrix Experience

  • AGREE!

  • Settle down

  • I know that's a lot of comments but I did it for a good reason. ;)

  • That's the coolest strat ever!

  • John's an awsome guitar player!

  • I hope they do another tour!

  • The Trio Rocks!

  • Pino kicks but!

  • Steve kicks but!

  • Johnn kicks but!

  • John kicks but! I hate my typos.

  • I Love this video.

  • The hi-hat does sound quite cutting! but that is something the sound engineer should be sorting out!!! the song is still fuckin awesome and so is the all-star lineup!!! superb!!!!!!

  • God I love to watch John play! He makes me want to play the guitar, sad thing is I've tried and can't even do the smoke on the water riff everyone starts out with 8.5.10, 8.5.11.10, 8.5.10.8.5 :( I'd never be able to play like John. He's turened me into a champion air guitarist though ;) LOL

Great Video thanks for posting it!

  • hahaha!! couldn't agree more :)

  • Comment removed

  • Steve Jordan is on of the best drummers out there...

  • the fact that you think he's one of the best drummers out there doesn't mean all he does is perfect. he does use too much symbal, its takes away all of the bluesyness

  • The song is not meant to be totally bluesy, the cymbal sounds amazing. Do you play drums?

  • it was probably the way it was written...to fill up musically

  • Well THEY wrote the song so he can use as much symbol in it as he wants. Steve kicks but, so lay off him.

  • lay of him, he was hardly ripping it out of him, he is a class drummer, but that doesnt change the fact that he over uses the cymbal.

  • You're a comlete ass and John would punch you in the face is he heard you talk like that about Steve!

  • and you're a racist jerk who doesn't really seem to get this music. Steve is a professional with more than twenty years of experience playing with people like James Taylor, Clifford Carter, Will Lee...

  • Rolling Stones Paul Shaffer Stevie Wonder The Blues Brothers (original BB's) BB King Don Henley John Mellencamp Bob Dylan Sheryl Crow Bruce Springstten and the E Street Band John Scofield Herbie Hancock Eric Clapton Patty Scialfa Keith Richards
  • John mayer and red hot crap? are you stupid. John mayer trio, is three music genius, they shouldnt jam with a bounch of junkies!!
