" It took 500 years to build the European Nations States" how? Here's how.
Ransacking the so called 3rd world natural resources. Even with all the stolen property, those nations still have a big social divide. If you don't believe, look around you when you visit countries of the "1st world". ;) peace people.
Iraq war was a clusterfuck but the war is in all bases and conditions over with a conditional U.S. strategic victory. Afghanistan on the other hand is a pile of rocks and is in all instances a waste of time. If U.S. leaves with Bin Ladens head or the proxy government survives after a U.S. withdrawal then the U.S. can declare a arguable strategic victory. But if the U.S. fails to accomplish either than the extremeness win.
Consistently good interviews from RP. Who here thinks a western style of government will remain when we eventually leave—and most likely due to America's bankruptcy?
Unfortunately, Afghanistan is corrupt, has a huge illiterate population who don't even recognize their own government, is mostly roadless ,horrid ,mountainous wilderness, and the Taliban controls areas only a few miles out of Kabul.
Also, many Afghan army and police are drugged out crooks that only want a paycheck and very likely , sell info to the Taliban.
I agree with you 100%! They won by turning the country upside down like a piggy bank by seizing all of the goodies: Land to build countless bases, A new Embassy bigger than the Vatican, seizing control of the Oil fields, building new Berlin Walls to segregate people, indirectly causing 5 million refugees to flea to neighbouring nations, making sure the Iraqi Gov't privatizes all social elements of civilian life etc..Hopefully all of this won't be a price to pay in the future for the US Empire.
yankee lost iraq was more peaceful under saddam then ..america just open the wounds n put the country into civil war ...n they got bankrupt fightin in iraq ..there were no weapon of mass dustruction and iraq has no link to 9 /11 america just went there to get oil
Warfare in East Asia would be quite different than in Afghanistan-instead of dealing with small no.of poorly armed and trained insurgents in which CQB might be useful, there will be huge trenches, defense lines and barrages, with war taking place between fully fledged countries ,fought by maybe millions of well-educated,determined and homogeneous conscripts.
Look @ the title, then look at the people who are featured in this "Cross"Talk. Bennis is a left-winger given airtime on a Russian news station. Hmm, now what did Chomsky say about worthy and non-worthy people in enemy states in his book Manufacturing Consent?

The biggest US mistake is starting a war in Afghanistan. More casualties amongst US troops (sadly) are inevitable.
Thank you RT for the very interesting Cross Talk session on Afghanistan.

Very unlikely. Islam cannot handle modernity, which is what always wins out.
Frankly, religion as a whole is on the way out.

The US hasn't lost in Afghanistan. We will win in Afghanistan, just like we won in Iraq.

You didn't win in Iraq. :-))
leostomicek 2 years ago
Yes, we did. The violence levels in Iraq are at the lowest since 2003.
The war in Iraq is over, and the US are officially the winners.

The problem seems to be a violent military system that is forced to do as it's told without question.

You speak as though the war wasn't lost from the very second we entered the field of battle. >.>
How do we leave? Pull out completely after giving the locals a mean to defend themselves and then leave them to the sharks.
