  • Most CEOs have a code of ethics: it's called capitalism. Too bad, though, that government intrusion has prohibited the expression of free market ethics for the last 100 years.

  • Congratulations on your video. I think it's a brilliant idea. It's not easy to talk about ethics in economics, so you have a big credit for that. Actually it's not easy to talk about ethics in any subject, so even better.

Your idea is brilliant because it benefits both parties: CEO/entrepreneur and company/public and it's adapted to reality. It's also nice to be hearing about ethics from a young man; it ain't common anymore. Felicidades Pablo.

  • Thank you.

  • WHATS CEOS?

  • Excellent piece of work!! Thank you very much for Sharing!!!!!

What a way of meeting people and get to see their talent. At first was reluctant being on youtube, but getting to do this has brought me into the houses of some very special people. You are one of them. Life; isn't it wonderful!!! Keep up the good work. Hope You Are Having A Splendid Day!!!!

  • nice work, excellent presentation, cool hand gestures!

  • International Code of Ethics > (dis)convenience for CEO´s?

  • I would guess that the 66 people, (as of Aug. 25, 2010), who 'disliked' this video were EXACTLY the kind of people who should NOT be CEO's and proof positive that it is time for a binding code of ethics to be mandated.

Brilliant video. No wonder he won the award.

As a CEO, myself, I heartily rated this video as a favourite!

  • This man is accuate. On target. Fair and simple.

  • srvgfeefwifb

  • I a

    gree

  • Important discussion and key decisions are of even greater importance!

  • This guy has it perfect except for one thing there is another element in the mix that controls financial transactions around the world. When they say it is time, the world wil be back to "normal".

  • Freedom of markets means freedom for criminals?

  • fuck jews and ugly dirty niggas

americans are gay dykes and they are all dumb fat lards.

  • What makes you think that? And from the looks of it, you're from Tennessee?

  • I am from tennessee! and I am a intellectual and a liberal!!! along with a very ethical person. sure about 24% of the people here are millionaires or biggits. but not all of them. think before you speak!

  • Why did misogoop6 get a thumbs down?

  • Ethics - "it is the survival of the fittest"

    Our world has big problems:

What is legal is not always ethical.

    And human need to survive.

Solution: human need to be immortal.

  • he is colombian and he won the davos question with this

  • Sad that this is the best thinking that could come of out Davos. Nothing is really said about how to change CEO behavior. We've tried cash compensation and seen outlandish base pay; we've seen cash bonuses and , again seen, outlandish pay; and, finally, we have tried stock incentives only to CEOs shorten their vision and do the most expedient, often at the expense of the company and its stakeholders. I did not find this video compelling or actionable, especially in the real world.

  • Said perfectly!

  • GOOD LOGIC

    MAD IS SLANG FOR GOOD

  • MAD LOGIC

  • When slumped countries are economically hi-jacked, just as this guy said, even political orientation becomes in the interest of finances. It is not does a doctor, a lwyer, or a CEO need ethics, to the credit of us having the capacity, we all should have ethics.

  • you can't legislate ethics. What we need is a function economic system... if money motivated people to be ethical, there wouldn't be a problem.

So then... How do you design a monetary system wherein moral and environmental responsibility is profitable?

  • Comment removed

  • When corporations were elevated to "Personhood" (Allowed equal Constitutional right as humans in a court of law) it rationalized the "protection" of the corporation and the forsaking of actual HUMANS!However, corporate policies are allowed to impinge on the health of Humanity's well-being unlike an Individual human. Corporations have none of the PENALTIES we as Humans have, yet have EQUAL RIGHTS!

The Federal Government is a Corporation. If I hire 4 guys to go kill a man for profit, I'm jailed.

  • If Corporations have Equal rights, then the penalties of Crimes Against Humanity SHOULD hold sway to them as well.

  • The greatest challenge today is that most CEOs are suffering from "Switching of the Brain" which means they are controlled by the lower primitive part of the brain called the reptile brain. Greed, profit, control and perversions become the "ethics, morality and conscience" - it is not only CEO's suffering from this - almost all people are influence byt the factor of this switching of the brain and it is the wireless society and EMFs - it is a "natural" development due to the lower reptile brain.

  • a very well articulated comment. However you are only telling one side of the story. What about capitalism in itself.

The CEOs only task is to keep the shareholders happy. To quote one of the greatest CEO's of all time (warren buffet) they have only two rules to follow 1) keep your shareholders happy by making them money and 2)dont forget rule number 1.

  • you got it brother...the base of properly executed capitalism is being (or has been)chewed away from the bottom up because of these two rules .going through the patent process will teach anyone this ........it is very sad what these corporate wolves have done to our country

  • Really nice vid.

    ...

    BTW You've got Egyptian accent

  • Tolkien once said that the heart of men is easily corrupted. That's true. I personally think the problem begins in us, human. Capitalism and its greed is nothing but a manifestation of human corrupt minds. Any economic system we put will not solve greed and inequality because the root of the problem is us. Stalin once said "no man, no problem"

  • I think man are important. Man just needs to find a balance. Think of it like an Eco system. If there was no Man, an eco system would get out of control. I somehow think we have a purpose here. To find a balance in every way. It is a long shot, nonetheless there are very intelligent minds working on it every day.

  • The only issue with thinking about "men inside an ecosystem" is the fact that ecosystems by all definition would benefit if man was removed. Since we are here and disappearing would be self defeating, we set up institutions meant to protect us from each other.

  • You forgot that ecosystems "can" benifit from man also. Without Man also, their would be an imbalance of ecosystems (obviously less imbalance). Man could have the conscience to change that.

  • don't get the wrong impression, I totally agree with your statement pertaining to "many" people of present times.

  • Good video.

Duh its idealistic (to the haters), but what 'idea' isn't.

Atleast he has examples of other working codes of ethics in other professions.

Salary benefits are a good way of making it not "smoke and mirrors" as well it would have accountability by being a independent source that gets its funding by the government and relies on 0 outside funds (as well they should be monitered like political figures do for bribery).

    My 2 cents.

  • 0 outside funds? Where would the government funds come from. Another source?

  • I hope this Tantan guy can offer more real better solutions. I believe in him, don't know why, but I do.

  • The host of this channel rejected my video response of REAL ECONOMIC SOLUTIONS FOR PRESENT TIMES. SHOWS WHERE THIS PERSON REALLY STANDS AND WHO HE REALLY STANDS FOR AND WHAT HE REALLY STANDS FOR

  • This is a lot of blab for some very shallow stuff. Where did you get the idea that this speech is not common sense with some acronyms thrown in? You're getting rated high cause you're cute.

  • you really think that's why he is getting rated high for. That would have to be the lousiest dumbest reason to rate a video

  • fuck CEOs

  • After reading the comments on this video it is no wonder that common folks get so badly screwed over by CEOs and the companies they run.

This guy put together some great thoughts to help the wellbeing of common folks. And...

Those same common folks go on to call him names and ignore him. Think about the broader picture, if you can, and guess who will get the last laugh. (Hint: the ones that are already laughing in their mansions.)

  • good job man, well thought out and explained

  • ms Susie wants to leave stop talking

  • At the end of the day, any system or code of ethics is directly run under that of our capitalist ways, im not saying that communism is the way because that doesnt work either - clearly.

Our nature, under capitalism is greed.. humans have a great ability to justify any action. IMO Corporate ethics is like smoke and mirrors it makes us feel good knowing that something is in place but rarely is it followed. Rich people become detached from the needs and morals that the majority live by.

  • It is a good video, but it is not realistic enough. An international code of ethics is too idealistic. Some cultures think it is ethical to bribe, extortion, etc. Perhaps, it is time to restructure who the stakeholders of a company are; involve the community in business decisions. Look at the European model. It is about time Wall Street investors stop idolizing certain stocks -- look what happened with Enron.

  • this is some tldr shit that i'm not watching. i'm just going to assume you're a socialist or something so good luck comrade!

  • Translation:

"This is some intellectual discussion that I'm not watching. I'm just going to assume that you aren't smarter than me because you're dumb. Go placate to Obama or something, so good luck comrade!"

Hmm yeah maybe next time you should watch the video before you "assume" things about people.

With that no offense and good luck friend.

  • u mad?

  • nah we're cool amirite?

  • The topic he is talking about has nothing to do with PERSONAL codes of Ethics.

This is about Corporate Code of Ethics which is very important in creating fair play in the market.

This as the gentleman in the Video has said is not easy at all because there will always be some one else out to take your place (Other CEO's) so its a very important topic 5/5

  • so... tell me what I didn't know.

but it was, I have to admit, very organized

  • sorry I don't speak french

  • You dont have to do a course to become a CEO, a CEO can run any sized business, even a small company can have a CEO/ chief executive/ GM. This would be impossible to achieve, plus decsions are made by boards and senior management not just one person, so do they all have to follow a code to its never ending.

  • by any chance are you single?

  • is it realistic for a ceo to be accountable for an entire company's practicies...often a ceo is not fully integrated with every aspect of the business/operation whereas a doctor or lawyer is directly involved...just a question

  • I wish Pres. Obama and many others were less concerned with the pay of CEOs and more worried about NOT starting a damn TRADE WAR when this nation and indeed the world can little afford such. The "Buy American" requirements have been removed from the "stimulus" Bill when Europe and others threatened protectionist policies of their own and our SecTres called out China's currency manipulation and nearly started a trade war on that issue as well until VP Biden made clear that wasn't our policy.

  • I dont like the accent.

  • Ethics...just what kind of ethics does a CEO require?Make money, don't hire people with the skin color of this guy...how is that for ethics?LMAO!

  • JOKE!!

Just look at the facts the socialist countries his family comes from are broke.

  • Checked ur own economy lately??????

  • it was good until we got a socialist government with the same ideas as this guy

  • How does it feel to know that you just made my otherwise shitty day with your comment about socialism.

"it was good until we got a socialist government with the same ideas as this guy"

Im assuming you're an American and I don't know if you realized that the current economic crisis was brewing up far before Obama announced even his run for president. This economic crisis is a direct result of a 30 year reign by a morally bankrupt conservative lynch mob running the US and the world.

  • 34 years

  • you are absolutely right on..This economic crisis started brewing in the seventies. A group of financial elites came together and formed a pact to keep the finances secure throughout any political upheaval that occurred throughout the countries. They are in control now until the financial market settles down again. Then the "free" market will continue.

  • Clear, realistic, vivid. Can't wait to see it implemented.

  • If you are hung up on the grammar it probably means you just speak one language and feel pretty proud of yourself for getting that, (and it is grammar not grammer).Truly, do not miss this mans point over frivolity.

  • hahaha it's Grammar bro

    oh the irony

  • Financial problems, ive lived through enough to know that the best approach is to not take the blind bit of notice. Its a huge vacuum to suck out excess moneys and redistribute, thats all the financial system is.

  • You should see "Indiana Jones and a day at the Office".. very funny

  • he's a communist get him

  • Comment removed

  • hahaha wow buddy. I currently am as well taking my masters as i have an undergrad in financial economics and what you're saying is disgraceful lol. If you actually think you're going to be a "fat cat" CEO with an attitude like that then its funny.

  • yeah i dont give a shit what CEO's earm Im currently in school working on getting my MBA so I can be a fat cat CEO and ear stupid amounts of money so fuck all you peasents just keep bitching

  • Maybe while your at school you should earm, learn proper grammer. lol

  • The naivete of these guys is phenomenal

  • What a load of shite! CEO has a social responsibility inherent of his duties now including the Environment. If making money has no social purpose or objective, then printing money is justified as bonuses are paid out in billions in the face of a global economic crisis. Need I mention the lack of ethics that gave rise to greed and corrupt which exploited the consumer for a quick dollar which ignited a downward spiral? Get real....

  • no taxation without representation ,,ceo,s are clearly in breach of this, why just becouse u shuffle to the top and occupy a position on a oil company for x amout of years dose,nt mean unlimited taxing on shareholders ,to goverment, to the ultimat owners of u.s. resource,s ,the american people ceo,s are taxing by occupying,,,, if 9/11 happened today would anyone bother to put the fire out ?.wall st & bush ruined americas reputation& world economy,,,ethic,s ,,,too late

  • sound on this sucks balls grrrrr

  • Ideal but USELESS, and could be much harmful. It could be turned around by big companies to suppress smaller competitors. For example, oil companies will use it might to include a code that prohibits companies from manufacturing chemicals that used in electric car technology.

  • what drivell. mate getting a point accross is better & more effectively served without the self indulgent over use of the thesaurus. there may have been a good message amongst all of that crud but it is wasted by this dude.

  • and that's why you work at a truckstop.

  • Have you ever studied economics?

    * Hint * Not Actual Question! It's Rhetorical, and if you don't know what that word means spend 2 seconds on google!

  • hahahahahah!!!! have another bong man. Can you even understand what you just wrote??!! put on another Cypris Hill track coner

  • I'm in highschool and sucess has to do with how knowledge, practice and luck so if you actually earn more than $40,000 a year then that's a great example of luck, either that or your a tradesman and in both cases you probably know nothing about economics so on a video like this your opinion is regarded as pointless.

I think you're forgetting that if you're trying to criticize someone you should at least understand the topic and write decently so that the reader doesn't think you're a faggot.

  • First of all, I have no Idea what that was attempting to argue. It made no coherent sense. Secondly, this video was not about economics... it was about ethical behavior of CEO's which has a very limited tie to economics.

And thirdly, his writing was far more clear and concise than yours, so if you're trying to criticize someone you should at least understand the topic and write decently so that the reader doesn't think you're a faggot.

  • Sry, that post was responding to Wayzey, not this video. Should have clarified that.

  • pubic hair

  • and if 99 CEOs follow that code of ethics, that 1 that doesn't will win.

  • If you follow the code you would probably epic fail though if they set up shit so that every CEO much follow a code of ethics then it would work.

That is what he his proposing, he's not saying let CEO's slowly switch to being more ethical, that's ridiculous!

  • wheres all the stolen gold at?

  • pubic hair

  • Straight up ! Dope vid man !

  • Not good...

  • pubic hair

  • its shit

  • Why is this sponsored by the World Economic Forum? They are some of the orchestrators of the capitalist, corporate world we all adore. Get off u tube WEF

  • I'm not sure what ethical maxim could be applied universally to CEOs of across all possible industries. At least, not any that couldn't be applied to everyone. Perhaps all humans should be required to pledge themselves to an ethical code.

  • Why is it up to the companies to find ethics?

Surely any issue of ethics should emanate from those who choose to do business with them.

It would be unethical to do business with an unethical company. However, ethics are of an individual nature. My ethics are not necessarily your ethics.

At the end of the day, if you as a customer applied your personal ethics when choosing which company you would buy from or do business with, only then would business's be forced into applying ethics.

  • Yes -- I agree - however then the main problem is education of the consumer. Should not the consumer have the luxury of being able to focus on the best product?

Safe in the knowledge that no - humans were harmed to construct it, or produce it? My ethics are not your ethics to a point. There are some fundamentals we all agree on.

  • cool vid man good work

  • web.me/taramassicotte/BLT/

    after me is (dot)com

    u get it...

    hahah

go there, its our webshooww!! :)

  • a simple international tax system would fix these greedy ceo,s,, just tax the ass out of them,,,,,99cents in the dollar would screw emm,,

  • You can't place a global taxes because that would be an act of war and the US has 20,000 nukes and russia 40,000 nukes. Thats why you can't.

  • But if the US had more nukes it would be fine hey?

    Fuckin Americans.

  • Just enough to quench a global European socialist uprising, is all that is required.

  • Actually taxes wouldn't fix fuck all because the big companies are run and funded by the banks anyways about 800-900 people run the country and no one will take away their monopoly unless using force, but people are too busy writing on youtube even though they're losing their houses and spiraling into debt, another thing is Taxes should be illegal unless it's a direct or indirect tax, we have so many taxes just to cover the debt the bankers make printing money out of thin air to solve nothing.

  • CEOs are agents of corporations and corporations are profit-maximizing entities whose constraits are legal ones. They are nothing more and nothing less, and can not be expected to act morally. They are, however, expected to act legally (and largely, they do). Where they don't, they face legal challenges, and some CEOs go to jail. Lastly, the free market insures fairness -> some ethical companies are reward by consumers.

  • No it doesn't make me a teen, if he is 5 years younger that would put him around 25, and if so then demonstrably naive. while his vision is not a bad one, and I am sure one most of us could get behind, the question remains "how"? and that is what exposes his naivete. International standards while laudable mean very little if those invovled didn't craft it themselves, and independant countries would have to uphold prosecution ... logistics nightmare. Like communism, sounds great in theory...

  • its not hopeless, I think the smartest ways to make change is in existing structures and organizations as opposed to trying to build new ones as old ones have failed. Capitalism is needed to spur risk taking and technological advancement, we tend to see science and technology as generally good or benign. The real effort is improving humanity's condition without exacerbating its planetary impact.that is the connundrum we face as a species. Capitalism, communism socialism fascism sides of same coin

  • Comment removed

  • Well said. Totally agree.

  • ... as I was saying they are sides of the same "coin" if you will, methods of control and structures of governance. they have strengths and weaknesses. Which one is best is based on what you hold as highest value worth advancing. Is it freedom, equality, change, stability, the advancement of the species or just your own family ? Exposing the weakness in one form while ignoring those of the others, serves no one and least of all the truth.

  • Industry has allowed us to surpass our normal population limits. Soon, we will surpass the extra numbers that Industry has allowed us to reach. Terrifying future, but I think war, famine, and tyranny will be the future in a few decades. Hope for the best and plan for the worst.

  • well said, I echo your sentiment

  • we may not develop that sense of limitation, but if our lot is to dominate this space in the universe then technology and scientific advancement are the only ways we can survive our propogation.

  • bla bla bla bla bla bla bla

  • you must be an american

  • bla, bla, bla, It´s all about money and pussy and you know that

  • Well said but I dont think a CEO should make any more then a labourer in the same company. Whats the difference if someone breaks their back, or drains their mind,? all in all , we all go to work and come home at the end of the day for the same team. The sports world is a good example where the no name players still make a decent living even though the superstars and CEO's make a killing.

  • Is this guy a doctor, cause he sure knws their ethics very well. How about accountants? They have international ethic codes.

  • If CEOs currently have no problems breaking the law, why would we expect them to follow some new rules any better? It's not like dotors and lawyers follow the rules that they have either.

  • noble sentiment even if naïve

  • I like it...well argued...not sure it will have an impact but we need to really begin taking ideas such as those presented here seriously.

  • I think this is well thought out, and well produced. Thanks for putting it together and up on the web.

  • Laws exist (or should exist) precisely to protect individual rights. Why would a CEO, who is making money while respecting laws, and thus individual rights, need some type of extra rule to help him not hurt others?

In other words, in what specific way does someone, making money without the use of force against others, "hurt" people?(except the non-GW environmental pollution, for which there are laws)

  • I could be a complete moron and say "these ideas are just Communist"; but the Pope himself said that we should not rule out all Communist ethics in modern society.

However, a global economy cannot run under a standard ethical function because all these businesses are different, in cultural context and in service to society. Therefore, rather than standardising ethics, there could just be tighter ethical boundaries that still leave leeway for cultural and ethical differences.

  • FUCK JEWS THEY EAT ASSHOLE

  • Man, leave the Jews alone! This is money, not religion!

  • wtf does this slanderous phrase have anything to do with this video?

  • mmmm, you have a point but CEO's already do have responsibilties. The dodgy ones do get what they deserve just probably not enough of it.

Plus what are you in? The USA? Might explain alot since you guys are so free and relaxed about everything and look what happened haha.

  • This guy looks exactly like this tour guy in Stargate SG1, hmmm

  • pubic hair

  • huh? what the ,, wow ,your talking about ceo,s,, the new mafia,!, dont waste your ethics on shit,s, just be a good socialist and shoot the greedy bastards,,,remember when you rob a bank you burn the get away car, this is what the ripoff republicans ceo,s of wall street have done, they planed this financal shit after 8 years of fuckin bush,, the godfather ,,, a simple case of grab and run and make a smoke screan for the getaway
