  • @carnie How about dismantling your big Ben into pieces sawn down transfer it to our Parthenon museum until you gave us what is ours?!

  • @calliope8muse

    very good idea !!!!

how can we do it ?

  • @calliope8muse Until you repay all your debts back to your EU neighbors there shall be no Marbles whatsoever!

  • @wordblender how can you add up oranges and apples together and make up one sum of unrelated things???

obviously them two issues are so different, it would be idiotic to even discuss this further!!!

  • @calliope8muse Maybe you didn't notice that the issue of repatriation of Parthenon marbles has been presented as the matter of politics from the begining by your famous actor-politician Mercouri. Only the later development turned it into "matter of culture" after the British government refused to deal with it on governmental level, because the marbles as a property do not belong to government but to British Museum.

  • @calliope8muse However the issue is still regarded as a matter of Greek politics of which the official website of Greek government bears witness. Read your government website. The issue of Greek international debt is also a matter of politics as everybody knows so the return of marbles and the debt are both equal and thus they are related and can become a matter political agreements.

  • einai san na mou klevoun to spiti kai na mou zitan meta na pao na ta pliroso gia na ta do......................inomeno vasilio tis eironias

  • i think they should dismantle whats left of the parthenon, ship it to england and reassemble it there, all these pieces of greek history deserve to be reunited and kept together in one spot.

  • they cant return our marbles are you stupid? there making millions out of them.

  • I am all for the Elgin Marbles being returned to greece (as I am of Greek decent myself), but the way the marbles were removed, has now made them so crippled and damaged that they are crumbling. Even if they did return them, by the time they would be returned, there would be really nothing left....

It is such a shame, since they have stolen what is, and always will be, property of the Greeks... of my people.

  • @JorgieeChoi just so you know the ministry of culture has offered to replace the empty space with Hellienic ancieties of lesser importance so the "British" museum won't be left empty.

Also to let you know that it has now been under UN law that a country has a cultural right to its cultural treasures and a request for return should be granted. This way it is about 40 countries signed this deal and Egypt is also requesting the Rosetta Stone back to its rightful place.

  • Also to let you know that they are PARTHENON marbles & not Elgin marbles!!! If you are Greek you should have been told of the difference and the history behind this!!

  • @calliope8muse Hey, I am only 13, so you do not have to go on a diatribe about how what I named the Marbles was incorrect, because I am Greek (my history text book stated that they were called the 'Elgin Marbles').

Yeah, I may be Greek, but only half. My Greek father left my mother for an Asian, and refuses to teach me Greek, or any history about Greece itself. My other Greek relatives wont teach me anything, as well, because my father told them not to.

You don't have to be so harsh...

  • @JorgieeChoi dude I am sorry to hear about your parents refusing to teach you Greek, I hope you grab the chance and get a teacher at your first chance. You need to know the language to find your identity.

I am on on a diatribe, I am just amazed how people who don't know about things stand up and voice their misinformed opinions, rather than asking to learn more?

  • Brits, return what s ours

  • of an english arrogant guy who thinks he is God himself to judge if Greeks are worth the marbles...excuse me who are you to judge my country and my people? the thieves of our marbles and bloody imperialist murderers are going to judge us? Get a life - The marbles belong to PARTHENON AND GREECE!!!

  • I have repeatedly requested that you keep your kind language and nice logical arguements to a level. I haven't posted this video for cursing purposes!!!

Just in case you don't understand english...

  • well done man nice say! thumbs up!

  • and maureen, i understand your reaction to my first comment as a reaction of someone who is reasonably not emotionally involved with foreign issues. But imagine that in the future you - unhopefully of course - get conquered and you stay under slavery for many years - for us it was 400 years!! - and then one day you get free trying to get your missing pieces together, wich takes many years, and lets say during the slavery they stole your national treasures...would u not want them back or not???

  • What can anyone expect from a country that has been behind almost every political instability in Greece over the years and then use this instability as an excuse for not giving back the Parthenon Marbles????

Shame on every British Government so far....

  • Yes, right, the british are responsible for greece being such a fucking mess, right? Nothing to do with Greece being 100 years in the past socially, is it?

The fact that you still have a significant communist party just about says it all, doesn't it?

When you are a country worthy of them, you can have them back, not a moment before.

  • Wow Maureen, not only are you a a rude cow, but you have your facts wrong and your opinions clearly display that of a sub-par education, mixed in with a healthy dose of fear.

  • Next time that somebody swears on my thread I will remove it and also block them!

I do not regard swearing as a convincing arguement from any side. You are belittling the campaing and the cause for sure and I DO NOT accept that!

  • your political views and Ideas out of my thread and video girl. this is cultural issue, rather than a political one obviously and also by being a racist against communist and expressing it so vehemently does you wrong, not my project of the Greek Communist party. You may disagree but not disrespect please

  • maureen what can i say....how rude can you be...i guess 400 years of slavery can give an answer to your question about us being 100 in the past socially! and as for whether we are worthy of them,is as if i ask you whether you deserve to have the Big Ben in Britain or not!not a country worthy of them???we made them!!! the issue is cultural but the problem is political!

  • i'd also like to add this : it's a fact that greece has issues to solve such as economic ones, but these issues only concider our country itself and they have nothing to do with having the ultimate right to reclaim our national properties!

i also think that britain is with no doubht a very powerfull country with strong economy and industry and wanting so badly to make a benefit out of other country's culture is such a pitty...it just doesn't make sense...

  • let me remind you arrogant maureen British envolvement in Greek civil war which wrecked litteraly the Greek people and sent back Greece in stone ages, hmm...also your "divide and rule" dirty game in Cyprus which lead to this tragedy, Greeks were giving their wars till 1974 while you sit back enjoying your cup of tea and pretty much yes your country has its share in this, i find your comment as a usual comment

  • you have stolen our girl little pretty Cariatis, we wont her back !!! with her friends our marbles !!!

    bring them back !!!!

  • Ask the turks, seeing as they were the ones that sold them.

I'm sure the brits would sell them to turkey for a few billion pounds.

  • While we may want these marbles returned, are we committed to looking after them? Are we committed to giving free access to people who want to see them? I dont think so

The British museum may not be their rightful home, but they are cared for in such a place and free access if provided to all something I dont see happening in Greece.

  • I do believe that at this point I need to let you know that visiting the Parthenon is cheaper than visiting the Quins castle in Windsor

If you are a student you don't need to pay an entrance fee.

  • Since you are worried that even though that British Museum has "taken care" of the marbles for "free" and we are going to take care of them for a fee. I need you to go and check some bibliography and reference and Melina Mercouri interviews clearly stating that the marbles have been scrubbed and washed with chlorine,

  • , thus further contributing to their erosion, believing that marbles should always show clean white. Not to mention the irreparable, catastrophic damage on them by the time they moved them from Athens to London.

Outcome: fees are petty details my dear, the argument is solid, loud and clear: the marbles need to be unified under one roof, that of the owner preferably please, not the thieves roof!

  • yes genius the the cost for the entrance in acropolis museum is 1 euro...toooo much isn't it???

  • To the English government:

Return what you have stolen. Prove the World you respect History. Earn your lost honor.

  • There will be a world outcry for the British Museum......Can you imagine pieces from Mona Lisa located in museums around the world ?

  • They show the story of the marbles in 3D animations videos...we have the buildind next to the museum...so whats best for the understanding §???give them BACK

  • Though invited, no British official was present at the inauguration of the new Acropolis Museum. Thus, they acknowledge responsibility for not sending the stolen marbles back to their "home". On the contrary, Heidelberg Museum (Germany) sent back all Parthenon pieces it had.

  • It is time to return the Parthenon sculptures in Athens, and take the position that the frame belongs to the other sculptures, in the New Acropolis Museum

  • Well, as a Greek it is sure that i want the Prthenon Marbles to come back in Greece. What is really strange is that the British Museum supports the opinion that as part of the world culture the marbles can be visited by everybody in the London. Why do not they give them back so as people of the world are going to be able to see this treassure in the place that was created. It really unfair, in my opinion, to hold something that that not belong to you. That's my opinion...

  • thank you very much for your comment Marlen, I appreciate it, if you wish to use this video for any campaign purposes or should the commitee be considering for a documentary on this issue, I willing to collaborate and be part of it!!

  • Very emotive and poignant. The Parthenon Sculptures as a peerless work of art deserve to be reunited, no more excuses are needed, its time to put right, what has been wrong for far too long. Marlen Taffarello for the British Committee for the Reunification of the Parthenon Marbles.

  • No Marbles No Flame

  • haha our rightful request as Greeks?? go and ask the Ayia Sofia back it is also Rightful Greek

  • dirty british porks TFOU sas you are only worth spitting, inferior shit race

  • If you think that you can swear in my post you are wrong for sure, I you have something witty to say just as Melina Merkouri, or Kavafis or Lord Elgin did as well as many others past this century and on until nowadays, you are more than welcome to share.

Sorry Vasili but by swearing and calling somebody "inferior race" you are degrading the level of our rightful request as Greeks.

Στάσου στο ύψος που εμάς τους Έλληνες μας αρμόζει φίλε μου.

  • Also you don't understand or comprehend the historical or cultural meaning the Parthenon has, why we require its UNIFICATION and not just its return, you cannot in THE LEAST compare your cultural impact to that of HELLAS pall, I am sorry you . Η γνώση σου και η μόρφωσή σου, είναι άξια του οίκτου μου!

  • Go and read the books get cross references so that you might one day grasp the fact that Ιλλύριοι was a tribe that you belonged and was conquered by Alexander the Great, yes your tribe might have fought for wars under Alexanders dynasty BUT THAT doesn't give you the right or ANY right to claim yourself as Greek or Macedonian. and if you need further ACADEMIC references go and ask for some lad!!! :-) and please stop spreading nonsense in my post.

  • You don't have identity, and you seek ours the Hellenic one, you are brainwashed by your government, which has military and huge trade benefits from claiming our history, our cities our towns. I am born in Thessaloniki, I am raised in Thessaloniki a town named after the sister of Alexander the Great, has a perfect Greek meaning as a name, it means nothing in your language.

  • When will Greece return all it has stolen from Macedonia?

Grece occupied half of the Macedonian land by force, it conducted genocide against Macedonians living there, it appropriated history. Today Greece sponsors a campaign of theft and destruction of artefacts from the Republic of Macedonia.

    Shame on you Greece!

    historyofmacedonia . org

  • You are not macedonian you are a slav... stop stealing greek history....

  • BTW by "artefacts" you probably mean greek art (coins epigraphs etc in greek) you claimyour slav ancestos produced?? A small detail slavs arrived in the balkans at least 1200 years ater they were made ....LOL

  • that's not a bad idea ;-) if we do such a thing to UK we are really going to be disliked and have our consequences I think

  • give our marbles or NO FLAME

  • Send them back...

  • they should go back. As many pieces as possible must be reunited.

  • must be reunited indeed, yet we all know that British never wanted and hardly ever will they show this generosity :-( I am afraid that it is historically proven that British know how to conquer and obtain, rather than give.
