Hi, I'm an epileptic and what has been working for me is not to remember my name but to put cold water on the neck and the forehead it helps tremendously to recover faster...! And if the person is wearing a tie, slack it, don't try to do ANYTHING to restrain de person that is having the seizure just make sure that he, she does not get hurt with the surrounding. If the person cannot answer her name, it is not at all important. You should just try to make him, her relax.
My uncle has seizures. He told me he's had them since he was 14. I saw him have a seizure for the first time when I was 6, and I still remember exactly what happened that day.
A kid had a seizure in my classroom in 2004. It was a really scary experience. But i learned a lot. Its a very intense situation. We had to move all the desks out of the way. Other than that we really had no idea what to do.
I've had epilepsy since I was 8. Only had a grand mal that one time. I am 19, in college, and suffer from absence seizures from time to time. I haven't had one of those for 6 months. Hopefully I'll be free of it all soon!
And it is weird to watch these videos, but I do, so I can fully inform others of what to do, in case I ever have a grand mal again.
VERY IMPORTANT, get stuff out of their way during the seizure, like things around them so they don't "fall" into them. Seizures don't always happen when a person is sitting or laying down. If the person is standing and has a seizure they can fall into things. Get that stuff out of the way and guide the person to the floor or a soft place that is in the immediate area. FANTASTIC and INFORMATIVE video with the best advice I've seen on youtube yet on this subject.
Someone had a seizure on a bus that I was on a few days ago.
I wish I had seen this video before then because me and the other passengers didn't really know what to do. We just made him comfortable and waited for him to come round.
This channel has been really helpful, and now I will know what to do if I ever see it again.
ucmeski. I hear what you say and also the laugh *smiles*. Can't help thinking that that is kind of symptomatic to the whole attitude towards epilepsy. It is not a prestigeous disorder, so it's not that easy to raise funds for informational and educational purposes. Thus e.g. videos must be low budget or non-budget work
This was very good. It seems a little odd to be watching this, especially since I had seizures when I was a kid. I was on medication until I was thirteen, then it was discontinued, and I've had no seizures since.
Thanks for posting your experience! My son is 13 and has been seizure free for 2 years. We are getting ready to wean him off in Sept. I am praying that he will be like you and never have a seizure again. Thanks again! You encouraged me today!
I get so frustrated when people start asking me questions right after I come out of a seizure. Save the questions for a couple mins!
