Jimi Hendrix was ONE of the most "innovative" guitarists. "Best" is only personal preference.

Apart from his pure talent, Slash took the guitar and stripped out all the crappy effects typical of the eighties and played with a basically raw guitar and amp. which was amazing at the time.
