I am a strong female, the first of my family to graduate from University (yes, I said University because I am an American, proudly living in Canada and that's what they call it) and I don't take offense. I think its comical how someone could take a simple, good commercial out of context. I hope they're not asking their parents this question, being that I am sure they're not an 8 or 9 yr old girl. My guess- another typical American who knows nothing about the country that borders their own.
I don't know about Canada anymore. Gender inclusiveness is established by not fussing about it all the time. What kind of child needs to ask, do you wish I was a boy? I mean seriously, I have had to grow up through the feminist movement and the worst young male bashing in history, and I don't ever ask, "Mom, do you wish I was a girl?" I'm proud of who I am enough so that shit doesn't matter to me. At the end of the day, people are people. Everybody has issues and struggles, and good times.
some of you have read far too much into this commercial; its not meant to be a thesis dissertation of gender inclusivness.
Its simply just a sweet 30 sec conversation btwn a girl and her dad, after she sees him looking at group of boy hockey players walk in (not shown in this shorter ver) to the restaurant.
Well duh. Of course there's a product trying to be sold here! Well deduced Sherlock! lol. My comment was directed at people reading FAR too much into this commercial. My comments are irrelevant to your reply. I have no problem that it is trying to sell me more fries...
@yeahoksurenoprob IN case you haven't noticed I don't have hte best confidence for your intelligence either. That is why I stated what was so blatantly obvious. Because sometimes you have to state the obvious. I actually am not fond of that same exact thing but nor am I fond of stupidity or general ignorance. And no fries wouldn't be the only thing they're trying to sell you. It's not "hey if you could drop by once for a quick order that would help us out a lot that would be great thanks".
Ok, you win. Chalk up another tally mark for you in the unending series of useless internet debates. You still don't get my point, but its alright. I'm on way to McD's right now for the double cheeseburger meal, hoping that there will be a dad and a little girl discussing "gender inclusiveness", lol. :)
Lol XD I don't see it in such an animal aspect. I don't care about winning or losing. I probably have a clearer view on the subject matter (rather than being naive) however and that's enough. I just had to make a point. I see so I say. Like an artist generally draw what they see. Why can't people accept that? I wasn't trying to make a war out of anything. Personally I am against wars and if one is to war they need a damn good reason.
Ok, this is a strange question, but does anyone know who the actor is playing the dad? Or any idea how to find out? I already emailed McDonald's and they don't know since a separate company handles advertising. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. roadie28 at hotmail thx
I loveeeee this commercial.. its about time someone made a commercial showing how proud hockey dads are of their little girls! It reminds me sooo much of me and my dad!:)
Look it up. Countless Transsexuals have memories like this growing up in which they were looking for acceptance from their parents which they never received.
but she never asked, would you still love me if I was a boy. Or anything like that. It was "do you wish I was a boy". I see it as a little girl feeling insecure because of her gender, like its a fault. And a dad reassuring her and crushing gender stereotyping. He's glad she is who she is.
This is one of few commercials I -don't- find offensive.
honestly i don't think that matters, people always ask "what if" this happened instead, but they'll appreciate what they get (a good parent at least ^) . Either way they'll still love the child the same way. I don't know if gender stereotypes is the main idea, but it looks more like fathers are portrayed as people who always want a boy over a girl in the media (wishing for a boy while their wife is pregnant).
Am I the only person who see's this commercial and wants a tim's hot chocolate and a honey crueler?

Sweet Mother of God,
some of you have read far too much into this commercial; its not meant to be a thesis dissertation of gender inclusivness.
Its simply just a sweet 30 sec conversation btwn a girl and her dad, after she sees him looking at group of boy hockey players walk in (not shown in this shorter ver) to the restaurant.
Keep it simple folks. Still one of my faves.

One of the best commercials ever.
I love marketers who use very simple themes. Without a couple of references, you wouldn't know this is for McDonalds.
