personally i never saw a rivalry between the T/A and the Z28 though haha, i always thought the T/A and Z28 should be in cahoots together =P haha, in fact i always wanted to rebuild a 79' T/A with a manual 5-speed Tremec TKO and a Pontiac 455, 4-wheel disc Baer brakes, and have a friend rebuild a Z28 along side it to match it, same paint and matching color decals, theirs would be exactly the same but with a 427 instead of a 455 to match make

@Ratmouth66 I agree, I always considered them to be 'cousins' and the Mustang as the true rival. As a current owner of a '79 Z28 and former owner of an '80 T/A I felt the both handled pretty much the same. Minus the less oomph from the '80 T/A due to a stock 301 under the hood.

only thing about the 79 which i had and the 80 . i hated that stupid gas cap cover that ran along the back of the light assembly ...after a while it didnt want to stay closed.

I had a 1978 red Tran Am it had the gold eagle on the hood and two small ones on the side doors.Had air shock's pump it low, fast pump it high, save gas, Holly carb and a 350 in it. I bought it used. It was a drag car had nitrouse switches in it. No nitrouse hooked up when I bought but didn't need it. Srry to say blew it up doing 165 mph on interstate without the passing gear hooked up... Damn that was heart breaking...lol

anyone check out the new trans am? 2010 trans am? i was at the trans am nationals in dayton ohio a couple weeks back, they had a booth there with a new ta. its had all the gold trim and...oh yeah just guess what was painted on the hood...it was badass...i asked the guy at the booth how this was guna be produced since pontiac is gone and he jumped around the question....but hey look it up..its a reall beauty

U have just Amped me up into restoring my 79'T/A.All original Black on Gold with Decals.With Original 400 engine.Camel tan Leather bucket seats T-Tops and backed up with a 4-spd shifter.PW windows PW locks original paint faded from Texas sun.Perfet soild body and a cherry dash not faded or cracked.
