Okay for the people who keep correcting him for his small mistake saying it's Bb Standard Tuning instead of Drop Bb... stop. It's a small mistake. Just listen to what he has to say & go from there with what you're going to do. It seems he's like he's just introducing HEAVY GAUGE strings & guitar types.
''For those of you like me get lost on a 7 string'' hmmmmm he also has a video of him explaining 7 seven string guitar.........but he is with expert village so you never know it could be all photo-shopped xD
For STANDARD B, u tune everything down a perfect 5TH! For DROP B, u tune down a THIRD then tune down an extra step on the 6th string. U got all of those wrong, and even manages tune down to A#. Is expert village doing this on purpose?!
@MetalInstrumentals Breaking Benjamin uses a variety of tunings, from Standard (Rain) to drop d half step (polyamorous) to drop C (blow me away) and drop A# (diary of Jane, lights out, etc)
@azncoolz if your talking about Breaking Benjamin - Diary of Jane... it sounds the same tone, but they use DROP B flat. Not standard. For DROP B flat, Just tune the Top and 3rd from top to Bflat. Tune 2nd string F. I think 4th is E flat, 5th is A, and 6th is D but check and make sure, im a drummer, im not a guitar expert although i can get around it.
@azncoolz If you talking about diary of jane, they have DROP b flat which sounds the same. Top and Third from top string is B flat. The rest im not sure of
@feuer666frei you shouldnt have to adjust your bridge. I recommend 12 gauge strings. 12-56 at least. dont get 13's unless your tuning to B standard or drop A. either get the Ernie Ball 12-56 strings or the D'Addario 12-60 strings.
@hoopz2598 it depends. If your guitar has a Floyd Rose than yes it will destroy your guitar. If not it won't kill it but I highly recommend buying heavy strings.
@metalnut2142 i got 11-54's on a dean ML no floyd its set for drop c already but i wanna go drop B flat do i need to adjust the bridge at all? or eventually going bigger on the string but do you think it would do ok now?
How important is it to have heavy gauge strings when tuning very low like this???? I want to tune to this but I don't have heavy gauge strings, they're pretty light. If I do will I break my guitar???
... yeah, i agree with everyone who thought this video was wrong (except steveonlyintheweek, i got relative pitch and I've got the B notes perfectly memorized, so trust me, it's not C). This is Bb standard.
... yeah, i agree with everyone who thought this video was wrong (except steveonlyintheweek, i got relative pitch and I've got the B notes perfectly memorized, so trust me, it's not C). This is Bb standard.
lol this video is pretty inaccurate... he sounds like a total noob ha ha "a drop B guitar". its the tunning bro, you can play any gauge it just sounds better thicker. 2nd, that guitar is tuning in STANDARD B FLAT. (3 steps down) if it was drop B flat tuning would be Bb-F-Bb-Eb-G-C
a "drop tuning" is one that has the lowest string tuned down a whole step so that when u play the bottom 3 strings at the same fret it makes a power chord
drop tunings are very widely used in metal because it makes it way easier to play really fast chunky palm muted power chord shit cuz u only need to use one finger per fret.
You're talking about drop D or Db tuning dude... And to tune tune your E-strings down to B you really need other strings... otherwise the tuned down strings will clank against the fretboard.
seriously ppl are spending so much time and money for strings to get their guitars this low when they can just buy a guitar thats meant to be that low
i have my telecaster strung with heavy gauge, first i had to sand the nut so it wouldn't snap, the highest tuning it can go now is DGCFAD, i can go even to ADGCEA, A standard
the length of ur guitar makes a big difference as well. for instance, tension for the same tunings are different on a les paul (loose and slinky) than they are on a strat (tight)
that was lesson ? that was basic bullshit... i didn't learn how to tune my guitar to Bb... he was just playing stupid chords.... 1/5 for this fuked up vid...
I'll take some good ol' Drop D any day of the week. The only reason I ever really go below that is to add some low end punch to my rythm parts... between my bass and guitar . It makes a recording sound so much more dynamic and layered.
hey drop b sounds great, say if u had those think strings and it was just in standard E would it sound really kinda deep and bad? So really im just wondering can u use for both tunings?
the only way to use such thick strings in standard tuining would involve resetting up your guitar so the tension wont damage your snap or simply snap your strings. you'd have to have the fingers of SRV or mark morton to bend those fuckers with that much tension though...!
You can go all the way down to Drop A with 11 gauges and be fine...don't listen to that douchebag unless you like your strings to not move at all and sound bassy.
thanks and for some reason my bridge on my guitar is tilting up instead of being flat on the body what can i do i cant use my whammy bar how can i get it flat on the body again
you have to adjust your spring tension, possibly needing to add another string.
your best off just bringing it in to a refutable shop, or private guitar fixer upper, and getting them to do it for cheap, it'll save you alot of hassle, time, effort, and possible damage to your guitar.
i have to agree with those of you who think that this guy is a fool. simeplestupid22, however, i'll have to disagree with. baritone strings or 7-string strings would be good for this tuning. EADGBE strings would definitely not work for B flat... and would be way to loose and flabby had he actually been playing in any kind of tuning where the top string is tuned down to B.
i got the drop B tuning on my guitar but now it has the bridge way up HELP i need to re place the little things on my neck with a screw driver someone show me how the bridge should be
you might not have figured out but you need to adjust the springs in the back of the trem cavity. there should be something that looks like a clamp, with two screws going into the body. remember the tremolo should be parallel to the body looking from the side.
yeea but instead of being parallel its all way up ill send you a pic if you want i need help you'll see i changed my guitar strings to a thicker gauge but the tension made the bridge come up it seems i have to loose the string saddlers but i dont know how it should look like i dont wanna mess up my guitar right now my whammy is up like 10 or 15 degree
If I were using a chromatic tuner to tune to drop A; from standard tuning would I need to place the capo on the 6th fret of low E and the rest on the 4th fret then tune it down to standard?
He forgot to mention that you will also have to change the position of your truss rod. Putting a different gauge string on your guitar will change the tension, so you will not have the same action as before.

haha hey dats why i clicked on dis im lookin how 2 tune my guiat in dat style! its "Drop A" tuning! on wikipedia it says d similar to dis guy u need thicker strings and on sum guiatrs u need to modify it! ive been trying to drop tune mine 2 A an i just cant! but ere if u find out let me kno how u did it! tanks
guitarRocker446, hey, if you want to get a nice in flames sound drop every string note by two whole steps. In Flames play in C standard on some of the middle period songs. It sounds perfect for Trigger and Cloud Connected.
i have guitar i keep in b, i use d'adario 13's with seymore duncan screamin demon pickups on a 79' fender squire. its a sweet sounding setup think blues guitar, souped up on riods, its not as metal as my 'lock...but its fast action makes it super playable and its lead channel is far superior
What kind of guitar is that?

guitarRocker446, hey, if you want to get a nice in flames sound drop every string note by two whole steps.
