Thats a gift of grace he gives to those whom he loves. But they also cleanse the land. Thats when they no longer love you.

I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian and it seems you atheists and Western Christians seemed to have forgotten we exist. Our view of God is completely different from yours so all of your claims are silly on both sides to us Eastern Christians. I've read The God Delusion, and that book only addresses the Western Christian view of God. The Eastern Christian God is much different from the Western to the point where you can't even say we worship the same God. We tend to use apophatic theology.
I hate it when fundamentalist Western Christians proselytize to atheists, and then when atheists proselytize to Christians. And what is with the Western Christians who tell atheists that if they weren't atheists, they wouldn't go to Hell. Do these Western Christians realize that atheists don't believe in Hell? @brendon080909 Well many atheist were not born in atheist household and given the choice to pick a religion. Instead I like many was born in a christian household and told god was real at a young age. After years of soul searching I found that religion does not make sense and has no clear truth behind it. However the feeling of being lied too for years and constant arguments this has caused in my family has left a sour taste in my mouth for religion. That is my take on it of course.

What did Pascal die from, I wonder? The measles? the flu? He lived in the 15-1600s when medical science was so primitive it was almost non-existent, and thus people's life-expectancy was horribly low. I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian and it seems you atheists and Western Christians seemed to have forgotten we exist. Our view of God is completely different from yours so all of your claims are silly on both sides to us Eastern Christians. I've read The God Delusion, and that book only addresses the Western Christian view of God. The Eastern Christian God is much different from the Western to the point where you can't even say we worship the same God. We tend to use apophatic theology.

Instead I like many was born in a christian household and told god was real at a young age. After years of soul searching I found that religion does not make sense and has no clear truth behind it. However the feeling of being lied too for years and constant arguments this has caused in my family has left a sour taste in my mouth for religion. That is my take on it of course.

@AndyCielecki The only fear that is possible based on biblical truths is the fear that those whom you love might be lost. And the bible is clear on that. Whoever loves his father, mother, brother, sister, son or daughter more then he does god is not worthy of god. Meaning if you're planning on going to hell with them (which you cannot fear because that means stopping to believe in a hell altogether, not realising your doing wrong) then you're not worthy of him who loved them too.

@ZombineVelancious THe everlasting argument for "not believing" is that i won't believe because faith thrives on the threat of damnation. And hence faith lives only on fear.
I said what i said about it, which is that unless you believe you cannot fear. YOu can't fear what you don't believe in. So faith corrects those who believe, not those who don't. If your a mass murderer without faith don't tell me you fear hell, you don't.

@ZombineVelancious I told that not all religions are the same... Not all gods are the same. So if Pat is referring to allah then i agree with him completely. But the god i believe in, which is the god the bible refers to. The one who put his son on a cross to make him pay for the sins of all who want to live forever and who could have payed for the sins of all humanity if only they wanted heaven too. "Faith" is a synonym for "belief without evidence." It's much better to believe in things based on evidence. Believing in far-fetched things based on no evidence at all is moronic. That's what religious people do, they believe in things that are not based on evidence.

But when for example you don't know your wife, your father or your childs actions then you'll have to have faith that they do as they say and say as they do. Faith, when you see a man raising the dead, walking on water, changing water into wine, healing the blind, cripple. And then raising himself from the dead after 3 days, is not so much in if he exists.... But in if he truly keeps his promises.

@cornflakeclusters See it's a position in which man has put himself... We now die like dogs and god lets us. All the while he is letting us know he loves us. That is a very shitty position to be in.. But one man has brought upon himself.
An example. If you betray your wife and go adulterous, you'll have to trust her word when she says she forgives you, but does not want to sleep with you the year after and you will have to keep faithful or lose her. The same goes with god.

@cornflakeclusters God died like a dog on the cross to forgive us. We die like dogs to take hold of the hand he stretched out to us in faith the he keeps hold of it while we die like dogs too... We battle with pain. We battle with insecurity. We battle with lots of things and all the while we keep faith that he loves us like he promised. And that he is going to make things anew and wipe those tears off our face...
faith that he exists is solved after raising a couple of dead.

@cornflakeclusters I know it's wrong for you to battle with pain and insecurity, for example for living in a loveless world.. It's better if you become a serial killer, murderer, robber, thief, prostitute, drug addict, then to actually have faith in a gods love for your soul and have faith in the day he is going to wipe those tears off your face.. But to actually rightious people this faith in a loving god is actually a virtue.... And this asking for proof is actually EVIL.
