Sorry, all. I have to agree with papajohns77. I also play the violin, mostly Country and Gospel and Feldman is OK but he sounds a little repetitive and flat at times, like he;s bored or something. And please no comments like "if you're so good how come you don't have a video"..That's so childish.
I think that its good that he is repetative, cause he always comes back to something, instead of just playing around with "no home". It adds calm to the jazz to repeat, Cyrus Chestnut (sometimes) hammers one single note for 30 seconds and it totally rocks! My former Guitar Teatcher (Chicago institute of Jazz) used to say "To be a good soloist is not to know where or when to play, but where and when not to play" and "Less is more" wich is true.
Im sorry i did not state, i'm not a violinist, i play violin just at home for fun sometimes... I am a guitarist and double bassist, play a little trumpet too... But do not take me for being a vioinst, that would be wrong...
Keep on ricking! When you're 30, you'll be a great violinist, probably! :D
I'm a violinist myself and I got what u r talking about, although I quite like it (at least let's say it's much better then other stuff here in youtub and it's not the Grappelli pseudo style... It's kind of ECM jazz. Do u prefer the Ornette Coleman approach? btw I saw him also on the viola few years ago so it's almost like your arsenal :)
This sounds like a bunch of kids just playing anything all at the same time,If this is what being great is then i'll remain horrible.

That is sweet Mark, you show technical mastery, but more importantly, I really like your bop feel for the music.
Keep up the good work.

This is a playing of a truely great violinist and a great musician. Also a nice human presence.

he's good but I've seen better
he improvs inside the box he needs to go outside more,
he does things everyone who doesn't play the violin can do, we needs to play wild
and I'm saying this because I am a musician I play trumpet and violin and I;m not just saying this just to say it
papajohns77 4 years ago
Need and need, its a matter of taste. You would know that if you were a musician.

ooooooh crap,
but I see where your coming from, are YOU a musician
papajohns77 4 years ago
so why are not you the big star on stage? If you're so much better?
hurtigsphilen 4 years ago
the reason I'm not on stage is because I'm just 16 and have a really good ear and play not too bad myself
