God bless his soul. I saw him do an in-store in Portland about10 years ago. He was just awesome... the crowd was very intimate and every person in that tiny record store was there for one reason... Chris Whitley. There was such a feeling of love between him and us. I continue to and will miss him forever.
His "Narcotic Prayer" is a masterpiece,it's a crime it's not played on the radio everyday..Wouldn't have room for Justine Timberlack and Nickelsuck I guess.
If anyone can tell me the chords to this song i'd greatly appreciate it. I've been watching other videos, but everyone plays it differently. it sounds like the tuning is
D A D A D E... but I'm really too inexperienced to tell for sure. May the angels lead you in Chris. You showed me a deep passion for delta blues i never would have known. Time to power down.
He is one of those artists who is so great at what he does, yet goes by with little attention. I'm glad though because then popular society wouldn't affect him and his music. What a great musician....
Thank God I picked 'The Knockaround Guys" one day.
Otherwise...
But starting with that day, the adventure began. And it brought Whitley in my life. My life and others... Thanks man, my soul is a lot richer since then. God rest your sweet soul.
yeah, me too. saw him at Tractor in Seattle years after hearing this song. he was on stage all alone - didn't need any backup - was a whole f$%king band.
this is the song from his debut lp of the same name that got me into Whitley's music. dark and moody, it's still my favorite. i was lucky enough to catch him live in Chicago once, just him and his guitar. i remember after the first number, picking my jaw up off the floor and everyone else was looking around wide eyed, too. holy shit - it sounded like three guitars playig! one of the most intense live shows ever...
Chris Whitley/Warren Zevon...two sides of the same coin as far as excellent southern singer songwriters go...both gone, but hardly forgotten...thanks for posting this.
You are a legend for posting this....I've resigned myself to never getting my hands on 'Scrapyard' so probably wouldn't see any CW promos. Thank You Thank You Thank You
His originality is what shines through for me...hit the highway and slap his 1st two cd's in...you'll see..

Try the "Dust Radio" site. They got a forum for tabs and tunings.
