  • does any1 know the name of the epicode the old one where there is like tunnels under the ground and a daleks gets whopped by this snake thing in one the tunnels? i watched it when i was about 6 and im 24 now :)

  • Bloomin' exxilon-t. Hey haven't they used this in their new, revamped dvd release?

  • The BBC listened to you!

  • Very well done. One of my FAV stories but with added Daleks !

And Dear Jo still looks great in those boots

    More please.

  • This is what we should have had instead of just three it would have been so much better with an army of daleks charging over that field!

  • Why so much Dalek ? Only one suffice to EXTERMINATE those puny huuu-mans !

  • You know what, that's pretty damn good!!!!

  • Do they come in a 4wd model lol, pretty pointless use of attack if they have to stick to a road or a nice smooth path

  • funnily enough..DOTD is being reissued on DVD next year..with new FX..so some one fae the bbc has watched yer clip....

  • day of the daleks sucked because it was over hyped and there were only 3 daleks. What you have done has fixed the impact of the episode completely!

  • In Genesis of The Daleks, the original 1960's-size were replaced by the new bigger size.

  • The two main flaws in this story are the obvious lack of Daleks at the end, and the Dalek voices. Both have been ably fixed by YouTubers.

  • Why are the Daleks so interested in killing the "Delicetes"?

  • just needs action music in it

  • Is it because of you that they decided to do new a Day of the Daleks DVD with new special effects? Hope you get a cut of the profits! = ) Nice work by the way...

  • Nicely done. Although, to be fair, the only reason there were 3 Daleks was that so it'd be believable a unit force could hold them back. It'd never be believeable that a mass of Daleks that big would cram themselves into the house to get blown up. This way it feels more believeable that the three original daleks would go in and get the boom, but still, great CG work.

  • This is great.

  • Amazing Attempt mate

  • Well done. Very cool.

  • I loved the brigadier me :D and VERY NICE WORK MY FRIEND! 10/10! I couldn't ever do a thing like that! I appreciate your work! Thank you and take care!

  • lol this looks so real

  • How do Daleks navigate stairs?

  • @supressorgrid - Daleks can hover due to their built-in anti-gravity drive. This has been shown in various episodes from the 1990s.

  • @profquatermass So why do they have wheels?

  • @supressorgrid - the accepted lore is that flying is power hungry and they can't do this for long periods of time. So they need wheels to move over surfaces. Probably a left-over feature of their early design from their time spend in their metal cities on Skaro.

    There, that do you? ;-)

  • umm how did the gold dalek move sideways without turning in that direction that makes it a bit obvious its an animation cos real daleks do that

  • You could have revamped Jo's knickers.

  • Could you have triple the number of Katie Mannings?

  • The Gold Dalek was polite there around 0:25 :3

  • Day of the Daleks, while not being th ebest Jon Pertwee Dalek story is perhaps the one with the toughest Daleks. They're basiclly indestructable!

  • what about the bit when the gorillaz blow one up with that bomb

  • nice

  • Damn. It is dangerous being part of UNIT. High causality rates.

  • Day of the DALEKS is a Triumph hands down! It may not feature the best Daleks, but the whole Atmosphere is simply mind boggling! New Series eat ya heart out!

But seriously, the Music is just wonderfully effective, & the Directing.. AMAZING! There's some shots, that are simply EPIC! The 1st scene when the camera RUNS with the Gorilla for example, or the Famous CLOSE UP shot of the Defector & the Controller confrontation scene. Or even the first Ogron death, the camera is looking UP. Simply class

  • @therealKINDLE do i detect a hint of sarcasm?

  • I'm glad I did'nt have to matte out that grass round the Daleks.

  • When this story finally goes to DVD, the additional Daleks in the final assault would make an ideal bonus. I would also like to hear, perhaps as an easter egg, an alternate soundtrack with Nicholas Briggs redubbing the Dalek voices into a far more authentic and menacing register!

  • Comment removed

  • really well rendered. nice

  • Cccccccccccccccccccccccccoooooooooooooooooollllllll!!!!!!

  • why u got cgi daleks?

  • in the original there are only three daleks that acctually appear in the scene

  • Yes leave Jo's knickers alone! Perhaps we should start a campaign to save Jo's knickers?

  • wow! :D

  • Don't delete the knickers! Typical comment from the "Metro Sexual" times we now live in!

  • I liked that, only criticism is you could of deleted Jo Grants knickers when she was running up the stairs, but otherwise nice effort :)

  • if the BBC Release this DVD They REALLY Need to improve the voices that were in the episode.

  • its well made ,but it is unfortunate about the ogrons ,always liked them ,but anyway its real good !

  • i think the story is really boring but great work for this, makes it much better and they defo got to use this for the dvd relaese when i eventually come out....

  • what program did u use?

  • If this gets released on DVD, they've got to add optional CGI Daleks.

  • I agree

  • 10/10 1963-2004

  • You should get the Dalek Audio Adventures by Big Finish and make some stories with the CG Daleks.

  • Very effective indeed!

  • Does goes to show, more Daleks the better but having said that, the shows budget was very limited at that time.

  • Pardon me for asking but what happened to your ogrons???

This story is long over due for dvd release.

  • Very good!!! I think the animated Daleks look better than the ones they actually used in the original...do you know that the Daleks were the least popular adversary of Jon Pertwee? Apparently he never liked them, even went as far to say he found them boring!!

  • Now this was great saturday evening viewing. Scared the pants off me but loved it.

  • thats gr8. stuff the ogrons. they were shit. what day of the daleks needed were lots and lots of daleks, at least 15 of them. why didnt the bbc make dummys like they did later on in planet of the daleks. that would have been more helpfull i think.

  • there's nothing wrong with lots and lots of daleks!

  • Filmed in Brentford (now used as Sun Hill)

PS Loved the Brig`s "Be quiet, Sir"

  • now thats how it should have been, well done, makes the story more better,in the full story they use cutouts of daleks in some parts, from justin

  • really not bad at all. with a bit more time and a few filters to make the CG models match the grainyness of the rest of the film and you probably wouldn't be able to tell. have a look at the directors cut DVD of Star Trek the motion picture. youy honestly will not be able to tell CG from model shots.

  • Just love viewing this. Frogoat is right we should have you working with the restoration team. Give us some more mate!!

  • Fantastic work!

  • Really loved this!! The real ending to Day was mediocre with only three daleks, this is a fan boy's dream come true and really does the story justice. Keep up the good work mate!!

  • You should work for the restoration team, this is brilliant!

  • Excellent work. The Daleks do need a little work for the lighting as they do stand out in the exterior shots. Great effort though.

  • good job

  • Don't let the crits get you down, mindrobber. This is clearly a work of love. Great stuff.

  • by models i meant the daleks

by POP i mean that they stand out from the background

i think u may be right, maybe the specular is to mouch

i work in the games industry so i look for stuff like this, maybe im just being too picky :-)

  • really nice attempt mate

my only critism is the lighting on the models was to strong and they POP a little to much wich makes them obviously 3d.....anyway, still very nice, wish had the time to do more stuff like this

  • If you look at the props in the original film sequence you might be surprised as to how well-lit they are. It is daylight after all. Trouble is that other complaints I had were that the Daleks were too dark..! Maybe its the level of reflectivity which is more the problem? Not sure what you mean by "pop"?

  • @themindrobber I think he means that they stand out from their environment more. In any case, good job, I do like the omission of ogrons, I never liked them anyway :P

  • That was good how did you do that?

  • Very good, though the choice of dalek gun effects were a little curious - quite bland when you consider all the other effect styles and sounds you could have chosen. I thought you were going to do something with the extermination shot outside the bridge too (adding skeletons over the two soldiers would have been awesome - though tricky I'd imagine). Adding shadows may be a good idea next too. Keep it up mate!

  • Skeletons would have been fun but time-consuming. Also the problem is that both soldiers die together because the old Dalek guns blasted a blanket of energy. I never felt it worked when they added beams in Genesis because a beam is concentrated but when that group of Kaled scientists die there's noone getting hit by a beam. To use a laser bolt or beam here you'd have to have the blokes being shot by two lasers simultaneously which would look a bit daft.

  • Yea I used to find dalek guns scarier when they blasted a general area. Made it more likely they'd get you. I guess the beam effect could work if it spread out or "exploded" near the target area and enveloped it. There are some shots like that in Resurrection where groups get exterminatd in one shot. I'd love to see what you could make of that moment with the soldiers though. I'm sure your creativity is up for the job!

  • @themindrobber

Maybe they can use wide-angle settings?

  • @themindrobber yeah but you could've done a split screen with one soldier getting shot, and then the other one!

  • Your work is excellent.

How do you layer the animation with the film?

Do you render on a blue screen and then delete that or use some other technique?

  • CGI video clips already contain an alpha channel which does the same thing as 'blue screen'.

  • I avoid layering the animation with the film because film is never static, it always jumps around between frames (see the problems they had trying to CSO studio dinosaurs onto OB film footage). So instead I screen grab the background and retouch it as needed, then I render the models in front of the image just like a backdrop. I don't use chroma key because you always end up with horrible edges and it also allows shadows to be cast by the Daleks onto the wall as in the first shot above.

  • The other advantage of not using blue-screen is that by rendering the Daleks directly in front of the back-drop you can pan the camera without worrying about trying to make the elements match up later when you're compositing.

  • Excellent work, mindrobber. much better than adamsbullock's dodgy stuff. However, you removed a few important scenes. But I can understand why you omitted the controversial "That's Dalekanium" line.

  • Ahh it wasn't through any strong feelings about the script, I just wanted to chop out as much of the boring humans as possible to get back to the Dalek fun asap!

  • OMG!! UTTERLY FAB!

You may not be totally happy but I am!

  • very well done! would love to see this on a future dvd release! god knows this epsiode needs it

  • brilliant!!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely utterly superb!

  • This is excellent stuff. Would be nice to see the traditional Dalek "laser beam" gun effects, though.

  • Well, to be picky, if you're talking "traditional", then nothing ever came out of their guns, til 1975. They were static lasers for a few stories, then became blobs of energy for Remembrance. Then proper shooting beams in the new series and back to blobs of energy again. :-)

  • You know your stuff, sir! Are you a fan of the new series? Loved Who since my 80s childhood and love the new series too.

  • Sorry, I am massively geeky when it comes to Daleks. Yes I love the new series. Considering what impossibly high expectations we have as fans, it's amazing how often the new series meets them! Can't wait til Saturday...

  • fantastic work

    bravo!!!!!!

  • amzing fantastic, the only thing you should of done was put in ogrons, but i suppose, because it's so hard to animate that you couldn't animate the ogrons

  • About time we had more than 2 daleks surrounding the house

  • That should be used for the DVD release

  • very good indeed! Pity we can't get rid of that terrible music! Deadly Dudley was better before he found a synthesizer! Might be good to dub on some gunfire of the soldiers shooting back.

  • The music is my favourite part!!

  • brilliant
