That gold colored mineral in your pan is probably muscovite or possibly phlogopite. Pyrite has a pretty high specific gravity and would settle out in your black sand concentrate.

You could have saved ALOT of walking & prospected closer to town just off the road & get gold. The gold is fine flower gold & will go thru a 30 mesh screen but it's there & even the cub scouts can get some.
