@trabajoacademico2 At the end, the Engineer was at the controls with the wounded fireman in the cab.. They had no idea what was going on at the back of the train..
The railroad used was the Oregon Pacific & Eastern, based out of Cottage Grove Oregon. They used to have excursions behind the original #19 around Dorena Lake where the movie was shot. The Salem train station was actually the OP&E station in Cottage Grove. Both the railroad and tracks are now gone, but #19 still lives in Yreka California.
Marty's career was outstanding....over 30 years recording and more than 25 of those he had a song in the top 10....only Marty Robbins could do that...he was the best and that voice will never be topped. He had the voice of an angel and now he sings with them.
One of the GREATEST Movies of all time!VERY Frightening. VERY
Realistic. An epic tale of a battle between a Freight-Train-Conductor, (Earnest Borgnine ) and a Hobo,( Lee Marvin ). During Depression Era America. NOBODY rides the #19 for free. Nobody! And Shack,( Borgnine )
Would sooner Kill a Hobo than give one a ride for free. And, Shack's known for doing just that! But, Ole A-Number-1,( Marvin ) is determined to ride the #19,( Shack's Train ) all the way to the end of the line. 5 BIG STARS.
This movie was great cinema......I never forget the epic fight scene with Lee Marvin vs Ernest Borgnine at the end. The soundtrack is awesome as well.....just listen to the great lyrics and the orchestra.
I actually bought the DVD of this movie today. I was somewhat taken aback to see on the back listing 'A Man And A Train' sung by Bill Medley. Ye Gods! How a film company can make a mistake like this heaven knows.
@tarquin45 Originally the film had a different film score with Medley included. For reasons unknown to me he was replaced and Robbins song was added. There is a new cd floating around that has Medleys original music..

What a great song! It really carries a message, which has become rare in the music industry.
"When a train runs out of steam, it's gotta stop
But it's a different story, when a man runs out of steam,
He still can go a long, long way on nothin' but a dream"
Gosh, this is awesome! Thanks so much for uploading!

A great song, and very inspiring. Nobody could sing like Marty Robbins. "Don't try to stop me! Don't try to stop me! 'Cause nobody can..."
