@KentuckyFriedCruelty Yep, we are extremely intelligent compared to other known organisms today. Just because this doesn't go well with animal welfare issues doesn't change that fact.
@TheYipedo Most people are not intelligent enough to realize the vast intelligence and complexity in other animals. Such people have no idea of the kinds of things other animals are capable of.
@KentuckyFriedCruelty They're still significantly less intelligent than us sentient humans capable of judgement. Not to turn this into an anti-vegan forum but even if they're more intelligent than or as intelligent as us, this doesn't change the fact that food is food. Humans aren't any special to all of a sudden be condemned for eating other animals when other carnivores do the exact same thing. It's cruel but that's just how things are: survival of the fittest.
@TheYipedo Those animals couldn't survive if they didn't eat meat; that's not the case for us. Many like our closest primate relatives are vegetarian. Natural carnivores never suffer from high cholesteral, etc. If we actually used our brains, we would recognize other animals aren't so different from us; and we are capable of making ethical decisions.
@KentuckyFriedCruelty Chimpanzees do eat insects and other primates. They're omnivorous like us humans. Even then, we have evolved on land to be hunter-gatherers (not tree swingers) which include meat in our diet. 6 million years is a great deal of difference. What we have today is the stereotype that most meat eaters just eat steak and burgers. But it's easy to eat healthy with an omnivorous diet as long as you eat a balanced diet and understand the basics of nutrition.
@KentuckyFriedCruelty As for ethical decisions, morality is a very subjective matter. Some people believe abortion is wrong, others don't mind. Some think burping during a meal is disgusting, others think it's a way to thank the chef. You see, what's immoral to you can be normal for others. I happen believe there's absolutely nothing immoral in eating what you are meant to eat. We're nothing special. Animals eat other animals.Life isn't about who's the most compassionate to other species, sadly.
@TheYipedo But don't we claim to be so smart and superior? Don't we pride ourselves on our morality? As humans say that's what sets us apart? Don't we pride ourselves on not acting like animals?
Haven't we evolved past our primitive, barbaric ways? If eating meat were so natural for humans, it wouldn't be killing us. Our bodies would be physiologically designed for it and I assume you don't salivate at roadkill?
@KentuckyFriedCruelty We are way more intelligent than other animals, but that doesn’t set us apart. We are animals no matter how much we try to suppress our instincts (will to survive, insatiable hunger for sex, tendency to protect our kin, etc.) Please also realize that SAD =/= all omnivore diets. A balanced omnivore diet is just as or even healthier than a vegan diet (and without B12 deficiency). It’s because what’s killing us is all the hormones, pesticide and chemicals in our food today...
Fortified B12 foods: orange juice, nutritional yeast, soymilk, cereal. Having superior intelligence doesn't entitle one to abuse another. Many animals are smarter, etc than some ppl. Should they have rights & less smart ppl denied rights? Protection isn't measured by intelligence but by capacity to feel pain. We can get all our nutrients from a vegan diet (& live longer, healthier lives), so to abuse & kill billions of animals ea yr just to satisfy our tastebuds is highly unethical & unnessesary
@KentuckyFriedCruelty Needing to fortify food for a balanced diet is an indication meat is a natural part of our diet. Omnivore diet isn't just burger and bacon. The Scandinavian, Japanese and Mediterranean diets are good examples of balanced diets(rich in veggies and fish in particular). It's not on how smart one is, but in which species they belong to. I happened to be a human who cares more about humans. I don't really have a problem with vegans, I just hate it when they force others to be 1.
B12 nat occurred on many veg surfaces but it's now gone from the soil due to our move away from nat fertilizers. Speciesism: prejudice in favor of interests of one's own species over other species; the pattern of violating the principle of equality is identical w/ racism & sexism. From a moral standpoint, actions that harm others aren't matters of personal choice. Today our society encourages meat-eating/factory farm cruelty but also encouraged slavery & child labor now recognized as wrong
@KentuckyFriedCruelty "Specisism" as you put it is what drives survival. Racism and sexism are discrimination against humans, so they're not the same. I see nothing immoral on killing other living animals/plants for food. That's just how nature works. A shark can eat other fish, yet I can't? Odd, since humans are just another type of organism on earth. Well, I guess if that's your PoV then so be it.
@KentuckyFriedCruelty ..This is why it’s important not to eat fatty cuts of meat because the game that we used to hunt were way leaner than what we eat today. I also assume we don’t salivate at rotten apples either, do we? Why would I salivate on a roadkill knowing food comes by easily today? Our ancestors might have, though, because food was scarce. I have yet to hear of vegetarian prehistoric humans. We probably would have been extinct if we didn’t eat this supposedly “unnatural” food type.
@KentuckyFriedCruelty fact vegans have to take suplements for the meat they dont eat. Some of our teeth are designed for chewing meat. Meat is killing us because we eat way tooo much! Also the quality of the meat like process mcdonald burger compared with free range steak. Meat is good to consume in decent proportion
@KentuckyFriedCruelty yes you replace your protien with something else you need iron and its a fact that some vegans suffer from anemia not getting enough iron. Did you know our closest relatives the bonobo hunt kill and eat other monkeys during certain times because they need the energy. In some cultures the diet is heavily on meat because of low vegetation and they are healthy hunters.
@FernandoTorrera 1. Anemia has absolutely nothing to do with being vegan. 2. We can get all the nutrients we need from a vegan diet (and be healthier and live longer). 3. There is protein in everything. 4. We have the ability to choose between behaviors that hurt others and those that don't, so why not choose compassion?
@KentuckyFriedCruelty all my vegan female friends take alot of vitamins to keep their iron up especially when its the time of month im quoting from real life vegans who i interact with. One of my fathers friends is a vegan and a proffesional swimmer before a tournament she eats chicken breast because of an incedent where she passed out and almost drowned because of being purely vegan. this is not made up these are real people so are you going to say theyre lying? SMALL portions of meat are good.
@FernandoTorrera There are healthy and unhealthy vegans. Your friends have issues independent of veganism. I am vegan and in perfect health. Medical evidence proves that vegans who eat a varied low-fat diet have a much better chance at living healthier, longer lives. Non-human animals never suffer from high cholesteral, heart disease, obesity, and other health problems like I see so many non-vegan people suffer from because of their diet.
@KentuckyFriedCruelty the quality of meat is whats killing people. There are people who eat almost only meat and or dairy because vegetables are not available and they dont have problems because the meat isnt pumped with chemicals and they dont eat processed fatty meat. In alaska some natives still survive on fish, seal meat, and blubber. Humans are scavengers and adapt to what the enviroment offers thats why certain races of people have specific food allergies such as japanese shouldnt eat beef
Doesn't this debilitate our traditional motivation for any action? Is it possible for anyone to do anything but what our genetical makeup defines us to be wanting to? I find it in a way mortifying to think that all there is for me in life is seeking the experiences that my brain can interpret as good and enjoyous so that the plan and purpose of life, which is survival, can be carried out.
Haha, you don't get to pass on your genetics. Sucks to be you!!!
