Probably best not to see it so much as a law but rather as a technology. Mystics from all traditions kept their hair, including Buddha and Jesus. Sikhism, is all about equality. Not only of the sexes, but of the races and of religions. What a man does a woman is free to do, and vice versa. More Sikh woman tend to keep their kesh compared to men (I think). Some woman also wear a Dastaar (crown/turban) as well as some men. Be sure to check out the link in the description, it has tonnes more info.
