@conor30000 listen to a lot of jazz, learn your chords, your scales, understand the way your guitar works (which much more complicated when it comes to jazz haha) and practice, practice, practice...
From 2:50 to 3:00 is a fantastic triplet arpeggio played outside and against the chords that somehow works so good it just kills. Birelli cooks hard and fast on this Chick Corea song.
i had to watch this video for a school assignment, can someone please help me and tell me in detail what instruments were used and how you felt about this video?
Wow, you don't know what instruments are being used here? I guess that would explain why you are stupid enough to ask YouTube to do your homework for you. such an easy assignment too lol. Wait til you have to write an essay bud.
I think I will always look up to Stochello's speed, precision and improvisation.... wow Lagrene is brilliant too and sorry I don't know the other musicians but obv are great to be playing with those two.
It's mostly based on exposure. Most kids grow up with whatever's on TV and the radio. You rarely hear jazz or classical, let alone gypsy playing in the mainstream. Thus, I have very little hope in my generation's taste in music.
@chillichomper Yup. Chick Corea off Return to Forever's "Light As A Feather" album was the first appearance I think. It's become a modern Jazz standard by now though with quite a lot of people covering it but mostly guitarists since it's very flamenco influenced & the perfect vehicle for melodic soloing.
I guess i should have qualified that statement by saying king of "new breed" jazz guitar players. There is no disputing the fact that players like Di Meola,Mclauglin, and others you mention, have and always will be monster players.I was particularly facing Bireli off with Metheny, who i am sick and tired of hearing about.Particularly from new generation guitarists. It is also my opinion that most players from a gypsy lineage, starting from Django, kick ass, and are far more interesting.
Bireli is not only king of gypsy guitar, but in my opinion of ALL jazz guitar.Extremely versatile...I wish more modern day jazz guitar players would acknowledge this guy.I'm sick and tired of hearing how Metheny is this and Metheny is that..I think Metheny should get a nice clean sound, knock off that really annoying chorus/reverb that he uses that makes him sound like he is playing down in a well somewhere, and get in with these guys for a set.It would bust the metheny worshippers bubble.
@loksinsan So Bireli invented everything and all others are suckers.Ok i understand.I guess George Benson is nobody Allan Holdsworth,Frank Gambale,Shawn Lane,Django,Al Di Meola,Paco De Lucia,John Mclaughlin are all noobs too and only Bireli is god...sure i understand.
Bireli is always too comfortable when he improvises. Doesn't seem to be thinking of what he's doing, which i guess is a testament of his greatness. BUT, Stochelo's improve always sounds prettier.
@Sk3z no, thats the look one of the best guitar players alive and to ever exist gives the other guy who is literally the best to ever exist when he solos and improvs. Its a studied look, like "what ever bireli does, i think i should listen carefully and learn something new"
It's not a studio recording, and as far as I can see difficult and demanding enough to be something of a risk for public performance, and this is without the interruption of Escoude. The small flaws are not of much interest to me. I wonder if they ever did play a studio version?
Having said that, this is really an historic performance, and I think that even Corea would recommend it as the best of interpretations of his composing
@monjoUtube i think they are really great players lagrene and stochelo... but this version has something veeeeeeery strange at the end... they really mess it up hear the end... stochelo was going to feel a coda... but then he saw lagrene not playing any more and stoped... and the last melody is horrible armonized or someone is 1 fret wrong position. dont get me wrong i truly love this players they are top of the list.. but someone mess it up.
This is an astonishing effort by two of the very best working in this genre. Bravo!
Two things worth the mention, first the astonishing appearance of Escoude, which must have been a terrible distraction to their concentration... Escoude's guitar also appears to have a broken string that perhaps in a hurried change remained attached to the guitar? Escoude is a great guitar player, but I'm afraid he's not quite in the top flight.
the real song is fast... google Chic Corea's free jazz version with Gonzalo Rubalcaba... and tell me if it loses its identidad ;)... the concept of jazz is the flexibility of a songs identity... lagrene's solo is beautiful
I'll add to my previous comment.. I was such a Django freak in those days..I was only a kid myself..what divided me from my "electric" friends was my love of jazz..Gypsy guitar jazz... did any budding guitarist see the lightning finger work?..makes shredders look like hacks eh?..God i wih I had an ounce of that talent!
@andrenuk If you wish you had an ounce of their talent... then practice for however long it takes to get an ounce of their talent... makes sense to me.
I was lucky enough to see Bereli in about 1982 in Stuttgart when he was just a kid..he was acompanied by his brothers..all wearing workers hats and smoking on stage!..It was a magical evening I've never forgotten.
Man they play their asses off. What cracks me up is when they finish they are so casual about it as if to say it's all in a days work. well I guess it is for them. lol
