I am 42 years old and since i was a teen i have always felt like a wild flower that grew from the concrete! And grew to be a real woman a gogetter! love this life more than anything!!!!! BLESSED BEYOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was my Late Dad song for myself because i was his WildFlower. All the Trouble and Heart Ache i cause him, he still had Faith in me and loved me unconditionly. R.I.P Dad.
@LAPASSION9 Don't they all? That's why I went back to school and finished my last degree. I should have did it when she was alive. Life goes on, and I can feel the she saw me walk across that stage.
the Skylark version sounds like some homogenized whitebread yassuh mister charlie you better know your place crap. This soulful and emotional version is the real deal. This came out when we came out and up! POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
@nucxd Yes, the other version is pretty good but it doesn't have (according to my taste) the same soulfulness as this one. But you know, it's a matter of taste.
@onThisMarathon I understand the R&B f you think this is exaggerated, then you don't understand how R&B worked back then. This is a great song and you shouldn't put it down if you don't understand. To use a slightly overused phrase, "It's a Black Thing."
This song came out when I was a teenager and I memorize the whole song and sang it to my girlfiend over the phone one night. When he starts mack'in at the end of the song is the shit!
@Spanishgirl, I totally agree. Black women deal with way more than any other race will EVER know. We are always the one "strong" one, black men want a strong woman to support them, and yes, we've always been there for them, but do not always get that same support in return. Love this song!
music has a lot to do with color cos noone can sang it like the coloreds. they can just sang and they can put their heart and soul into it i am sorry if people jet offended certainly not meaning to hurt anyone's feelings, this song back in the day was sung by a black man for a black woman...can't we have just a lil bit of our props?
This is the song i turned to in my rebellious times....love it...My dad made me listen to this song over ,over again....and i Cry'd like a baby.....LUV IT!!!!
So true. BLK women are...especially... needing strong emotional support and protection and for long a time as a whole...we have not been getting that from our men...and that's the missing piece. We always been the ' GO TO WOMEN ' in this society whether we liked it or not and many of us just are plain weary and torned. That's why I love this song much. It's really sums up blk women's feelings and needs. We need strong men to lean on. Now that's a blessing.! ( giggles ) Peace
Very strong lyrics of emotions, feelings and love. Hardest times becomes Great times after a while when two works as one..... Love these Old School R&B songs!
for me the song speaks to the struggle to maintain a love amidst all the turmoil of life. The siren she hears, and the weight of all the years, and all that stuff is enough to make anybody cry, SOMETIMES.
The song speaks to the answer of what the blk man needs to do to UPLIFT his blk woman...GIVE LOVE, RESPECT, UNDERSTANDING, PROTECTION AND STRONG EMOTIONAL SUPPORT.
i remember when i was just a young lad playing in the park till way after dark i will never forget those older gents playing woo-pie in the cars next to the swings i remember the rock San Francisco ca

ONL THE COMMENT ABOUT "ONLY A BLACK WOMAN CAN APPRECIATE THIS SONG, WITH ALL DUE RESPECT IS NOT TRUE, I LOVE THIS SONG, IT RELATES TO ME AS A LADY, MY LIFE, FEELINGS, EMOTIONS....LOVE..AND NO IM NOT AFRICAN-AMERICAN, IN FACT I AM HISPANIC, AN IMMIGRANT TO THIS COUNTRY. LOVE R&B!!!!!!!
@missguatemala1964--I agree with you on that, it's for a LADY period to understand!!! If you have any emotions or feelings within you, you gotta FEEL this song. GO NEW BIRTH!!!
Jealousy is such an ugly emotion. I have seen this lead singer many times. He is a child of Africa. He's about as Black as they come. This music come from the depth of the original man -- the Black man. It's passion and beauty which the original people can communicate.

Story of my life... everytime I listen to this song, I think about my childhood & that one boyfriend who never left my side... Thanks babe you know who you are... Without you I wouldnt made it ..kiss kiss
I Was PRAYING Me Bro-In-Law Had Video'd On His iPhone LadyT Teena Marie Singing This On Mother's Day 2010 At The Theatre" At Madison Square Garden ....We Were Split Up And He's Usually Recording Everything, Needless To Say LadyT{R.i.P} DEMOLISHED It, She Brought TEARS To My Eyes.....Now That's She's GONE, I Came Here Just To Hear The Lyrics For They Seem To Be So Poignant To Such A Huge LOSS This Holiday Season......
I think this is the greatest soul ballet of all time. That's a hug compliment coming from me... You gotta hear "Fallin in love" he blows on that to perfection also..
w0w! thanks to a good time in my life. my boyfriend was a D.J. so i got to go to alot of of gigs.and he would rock the house.this is one of the songs he would play.the 70s were great! peace.
THIS IS A MAN WHO TRULY UNDERSTAND A WOMAN'S EMOTIONS A MAN HE CAN TRULY EXPRESS HOW HE FEELS ABOUT A WOMAN . THIS IS DEFINITELY ONE OF FAVORITE SONGS BUT I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT THIS SONG WAS ABOUT HIS DAUGHTER OR SOMETHING BECAUSE HE SAYS LET HER DREAM BECAUSE SHE IS MY CHILD I'M JUST SAYING YET IT IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG
I saw New Birth perform this song live in concert in mid 70's, where they opened for the Isley Brothers at the Spectrum in Philly. When Leslie Wilson sang this song the Spectrum went crazy! He was on his knees by the end of the song, the band was throwing out flowers, it was a magical moment. When the Isley's came on after that .the energy level dropped drastically. New birth had stole the show!!! It was awesome!! Watch them perform I can understand it live and you will see what I mean.
when I here this song it sends me to a place an i can't describe on utube but just try a follow an imagination of a woman in need and a beautiful flower being saved to
I think most who love REAL music have a song that just does something for them that cannot be put into words. For me, this is THAT SONG..thanks for posting rovingeye2.
This song hits home I'll never forget how I felt the first time i heard it or how me and my friends nearly blew our vocal chords trying to hit the high note.
No disrespect to the new artist, but I can't help but go back and listen to music like this. Awesome!! This track is magical, and it brings good memories.
my comments on not, just this video or song but just great to go back and remember all the R&B music that inspired me to live and grow , is timeless is the word to descript emotions and feelings of love, understanding and peace within. That's the magic of music.
Man I remember this album was full of gems. You youngsters should turn some of us old heads on to the computer and more oldskool than you can listen to. Better make sure they have their own computer though or you won't get yours back. Occasionally I'll tune to a radio station I turn it right back off. Utube and Rhapsody you've got your own radio station. WEFUNK so all ya'll talking about good music and how they don't make it anymore. It's right here so play it but don't fillet it. Funk it up
This is the BEST and most soulful rendition of this song to me, also the most memorable. I grew up hearing this version on the Quiet Storm... up listenin' to GROWN FOLK MUSIC when I was supposed to be in bed. The youth of today don't know what real music is and the record labels are robbing them of GOOD MUSIC!
This is not R&B its Soul for real. They were soul singers,...that's where you hear it in Your soul Straight up. I wish the would do a reunion. The lead vocalist...his voice...is out of sight...so soulful, so full the lyrics are awesome. You really belive in the Wildflower when you hear this...they make you want to hear the wildflower.
This group was on point in the early 70's...Good singing!!!

my comments on not, just this video or song but just great to go back and remember all the R&B music that inspired me to live and grow , is timeless is the word to descript emotions and feelings of love, understanding and peace within. That's the magic of music.

This was when entertainers had real talent. I remember New Birth and the were special. I have much respect for their art.

I'm 23. I first heard this sampled in a song. When I heard the original I feel in love with it instantantly. Sorry Jamie:-(

Funk it up

Music written for and heard through the ears of truly appreciative people. Soul and not just soul but what soul was built on.

This is the BEST and most soulful rendition of this song to me, also the most memorable. I grew up hearing this version on the Quiet Storm... up listenin' to GROWN FOLK MUSIC when I was supposed to be in bed. The youth of today don't know what real music is and the record labels are robbing them of GOOD MUSIC!

new birth always ended their songs with a big climax. their concerts were outstanding back in the day. this is the kind of music that is missed.
