I live in the Burlington Ontario area and presently have studied under a Sifu who has started a Tai Chi club (Leung's Yang Tai Chi)
He teaches the 103 Traditional Yang Movements. I hope he will include PUSH HANDS in his 2nd set of Classes this Feb. I believe they start Feb 6th... The first set of classes (5months) were absolutely great !
Master Yang is an amazing teacher. I have felt his ability and there is no denying it. The remarkable thing about him is that he does not try to impress people who don't understand his skill. Yes, he can fight, but at his level he is more concerned about being kind and helping people. He is a truly humble and classical teacher who has an incredible art to offer if you are respectful, patient and hardworking. If you are not respectful, and hardworking, who do you expect to teach you?
While not making a judgement on any comment true or false,...to speak badly and judging of someone negatively publicly only reflects badly on the speaker.. , and also is only one side of a story.
@taijispirit1 I beg to differ! When you claim the rank of master, and gor a million dollar taiji franchise going on, you can't start whining just because someone raises critical questions! Ma Yueh Liang, Huang Shen Shyan, Ip Tai Dak and Chu Gin Son and hundreds of other Yang-stylists all bounce people off the walls with utter ease. Yet I've never seen anything even remotely close to that from the two standard bearers, YJ and YZD. Cont.
I wasn't making a judgment if the comment was true or false, ...just that to speak badly of someone in public shows poorly on the speaker and is only his side of the story. I don't hear Yang Jun whining about it only the speaker. As for YZD and YJ losing credibility in your eyes ....who cares.
Other Yang Stylists also have great skill, learn from them. I was taught Chinese martial art protocol to respect martial and civil ethic codes.
@taijispirit1 Thanx for the correction! I somehow got the impression you were in some way affiliated with, or speaking on behalf of the Yang Taiji Federation. I now see I was too quick to make that assumption. Pitviper is entitled to voice his opinion. I've heard similar thoughts from a 6th duan in the YZD/YJ system, and others. As for martial ethics: The Kung Fu men of old weren't always the saints they're made out ot be; feuds, intrigues, backstabbing and (un-)friendly challenges were common.
l have no affiliation with Yang Taiji Federation, but I still respect their lineage and how they continue to carry on their family legacy. Nowadays, many not as accomplished are very disrespectful. Masters you have mention, Ma Yue Liang, Huang Shen, and more, Wang Pei Shang, Wu Tunan, Feng ZhiQiang, Chen Xiaowang, Chen Zenglei, even Yang Zhen Duo never ever speak badly about another master in public. Many have no credentials and should be more respectful, no matter their opinion.
@taijispirit1 First let me say you got a good taiji spirit, and I too think we should keep it polite and respectful! Still, some debate and critical inquiries are a healthy thing. And there is a tradition for that in Taiji as well. Jou Tsung Hwa and Wu Tunan made assessments of other teachers/styles in their writings, and they were not always positive! ANd also: If you've experienced real Taichi skill once, then you will recognize it every time, so you don't have to be a master to know.
@taijispirit1 So this one goes out to all the Yang stylists out there: Is there even one video of either Yang Zhen Duo or Yang Jun doing anything impressive in terms of push hands, fighting or root/internal power out there?! Please post the link! Or even if you've just seen them, but don't have it on tape, tell the story! The current generation of Yang family members are loosing credibility fast, in my eyes, and others'. Please prove us wrong!
Interaction as well lack of principles. I think Master Yang has lost his way in his teachings of Push Hands. The main focus seemed to be fancy circles and sensitivity instead of grounding and structure. My teacher used to touch us and we would fly across the room. I havent been able to come across anyone since his passing who has been able to do that. If you consider yourself a Master in Tai Chi you should have internal power and be able to move others around easily. His Tai Chi form is nice
I recently met "Master" Yang Jun at a recent seminar that he held. What a fraud. His push hands is ridiculous and he wont interact with you unless you are a student of his. I approached him a few times and he wouldnt even look at me. I was not challenging him by any means. I was actually asked to leave the seminar. I am dissapointed to say the least to see the state of Yang Style Push Hands. He has no power what so ever nor does his students. What a business he has. Very dissapointing.
I am very sorry for you! But what disturbed you most: no interaction with Master Yang Jun or the apparent lack of "power"? And what is really important in Tai Chi Chuan, power??
Fantastic!!!

I agree critical inquiries and debate are good as well as practical common sense in martial arts.
But for Pitviper to stoop so low as call YJ a fraud in public is not useful or accurate.
Keep it civil and be discreet and respect others as you would want them to respect you.
We are all on our own path and should try be a positive influence to the art we cherish.
