Interesting points to know:

Both Korjus and the real life Mrs. Johann Strauss, Junior, (Jetty) were very beautiful women and were good opera singers. (Mrs. Strauss, Poldi, in this movie was a non-existant figure).

Also, the real life Johann Strauss, Junior, could not dance at all but his opera singer wife was a good dancer !!!

See `the Great Waltz`(1972), which was in colour. It gave a more accurate story of his life.

@xwiirastusx ......when she was injured in the auto accident in 1939 or early 1940 only her leg was injured and was already on tour again in South America when the US entered WW2. She performed in concert until she was married in 1952. After her marriage she still made records. She died in 1980. One of the great voices of all time. I first saw this movie in 1948 when I was 12 years old.I still think Miliza Korjus is beautiful & had a marvellous voice.This was a great movie.I have a VHS tape & regularly watch it & still enjoy.What a shame that her Hollywood career was cut short by an accident.

Friends always find it confused why I am in great favour of those black and white movies. I simply told them we human beings, at some points were in the retrogress. We are losing the sense of art, the talent of art is leaving us. I dont criticize movies like Avantar, but with too much techonology orientation, Movie has lost its nature beauty that is excellent performance, music and scripts. If production of movie is only for profit, nothing else, movies as Great Waltz would never come back again

I adore this movie, not only for the its aesthetic value, but because with this movie I fell in love with Strauss. The music in it is so lovely, the singing-divine. I know it may not be his whole life exactly as it was, but it is a great story nonetheless. This movie, this great piece of cinema, will forever live with me in my heart... I adore this. The Great Waltz, this movie touched me, possibly more than any other. Miliza Korjus had a wonderful voice. Completely "angelic." Thank you for this.

Seidel actually appears in a wonderful 1941 film titled "Melody For Three' starring Fay Bainter and Jean Hersholt (in a 'Dr. Christian' role). .As you correctly imply, his tone touches the heart and soul. Look for it as it was released on DVD in 2004 .Thanks for reminding us all.

One of the greates students of Leopold Auer (the teacher of Jascha Heifetz, Mischa Elman, Nathan Milstein etc.), his solo career was limited and he is almost forgotten today. But none of the currently famous violinists can even begin to approach his beauty of tone...

Perhaps I love this particular masterpiece so much is that my parents were both born in that era when Austria-Hungary was still an empire. Both came to America from Hungary. Visited there, and fell in love with both Austria and Hungary as well as Miliza Korjus and Johann's music! Lizzy _Tish
