Awwwwwww she is precious! I love CH cats. I'd never heard of the condition until we rescued a pregnant stray and she had 5 CH kittens! 2 were barely noticeable, 1 was able to walk around okay, but 2 were so bad they couldnt take one step! We kept the worst of the litter and we are so grateful that we did! Kia is the most rewarding and happy kitten we have ever had! We are wanting to put videos like this up so people can better understand the condition and fewer sweeties will be put down :)
Thanks for replying, I was making a snap judgement based on a few minutes of vid, not fair, Leanie looks great. I just got a c.h. kitty (posted a vid at 9 weeks old, "Oishi, a c.h. kitten"). I've never met a c.h. cat so we're learning together. Did you have to modify her litter-box at all? Mine uses the box on her side, cant get into a regular one so she uses the bottom of a travel crate, shoots litter everywhere, not a big deal, but if there's a better way... thanx :)
@wanderliscious No problem with your advice - in fact, appreciate it.... Truth be told, she could probably lose a pound. As for litter, we've tolerated dozens of "accidents" - a real drag. We've had some luck with an enormous shallow storage bin - doesn't help with the litter-scatter, though. On a vet's advice, we also give her a small dose of "Clomicalm" - a drug that helps animals with anxiety. I believe it keeps her calmer. Good luck with your cat - they really have a terrific demeanor.
Thats awsome I guess I got lucky with my CH kitty he gets around fine, uses the litter box 80% of the time can eat on his own and has even defeated stairs! CH kittys are the best! I keep telling my bf that when my lovely wibbles is gone We will be getting another one! I also found that wibbles has developed a deep attachment with my normal kitty binks anyway enough rambling, Awsome kitty ^ ^
Thanks, blackroseofpain1 and satnightride: Leanie's "shake" is more front-to-back than side-to-side so she smacks her teeth (even on a rubbee bowl). She's broken a fang already. And blackrose, the dogs are cool. Hungry, but they protect that cat and respect her... Cheers!
@gcaira wow! she ate enough for three meals there!... and she does that 2x a day?! and she needs all that energy for ?? I 'm sorry but I have to say it; It's not very kind to make a mobility challenged cat fat. imho, cut her portions in half ... gradually.. and donate your savings to a cat rescue, or buy the dogs each a big juicy bone ;)
@wanderliscious First of all, thanks for the note of concern - your advice is correct. Except, trust me: Leanie is "lean" and healthy. Those are half-can servings and she's hungry for them - but her weight is normal. She can't do the little-at-a-time thing like our other cats and if she doesn't finish a serving, we just stop. And, believe it or not, she's extremely active - clumsy, maybe, but active!
The funny thing is that my cat can eat A-OK but is WAY more shaky than yours. You might can just let your cat do its thing and it'll figure out how to eat. My CH kittie can barely stand but has learned how to eat and drink water. Good luck with your adorable cat.
we have a cat with about the same degree of ch. same color too. this looks all too familiar. i noticed your cat was outside. do you let her out often?
she probably doesnt drink water by itself because its clear and has trouble with depth perception. I know my cat does. Sometimes shell dip her nose deep into the water and start having a sneezing fit. Adding cream may possibly help her see it better.
@ShokujiAkai Yes, even friends who visit laugh or worry or express some emotion - but actually, no need for sadness - she's a pretty happy cat and she's "normal" in every way except her motor movements - and she has playmates in our two dogs and two other cats... Thanks for sharing, though...
love your baby. I gust got a new kitten - 5 months old with CH. Mine doesn't like dry food and I'm worried he will develop teeth problems in the future. Any tips?
We have the same worry/problem... We mix some dry kibble in with wet food. Leanie won't drink water, so we mix in a little cream. After a meal, we hope a drink will wash her mouth (and teeth) out a little - but, frankly, tooth problems will likely occur some day... Fingers crossed! And, yes, the dogs are terrific. Thanks.
LOVE YOUR KITTY! I also have a CH kitty and he's black too! He eats mostly dry food, and the dish has to be FULL for him to eat very well. We raised his dish about 2" with a round piece of styrofoam and it helps him a little so that he doesn't have to bend over so much. He has a pretty bad head-bobbing problem. Your dogs are adorable the way they just leave her alone! Enjoy your baby!
the empathy of the dogs is amazing! They are sitting there without disturbing you or her like they know and they are waiting for her to finish her meal.

Is CH that serious? And did you know that your dogs were looking at the cat's food mighty hungrily when she left it?

I'm glad the kitty has a loving family to take care of her. I laughed a bit at first, but now I'm kinda sad for her. =/

Dry food was never an option with Leanie, unfortunately... CH Cats have such a terrific temperament.
