I know this vid is old and it's possible you abandoned this account but it might be your dvd writer. I had an issue like that and unfortunately had to get a new dvd writer. Did you try more then one dvd. Whats the condition of the dvd?
I've had that problem but sometimes how i'd fix that is when u put the dvd in and before u did what you did in the video posted here play the dvd in windows media player for a couple of seconds after this return to the ripper and do what u did and you will notice it works so when ever you get that problem just remember to play about 10 or 15 sec on windows media player and u should be fine afterwards.
lol, you need to install DIVX, XVID and lastly the KLITE CODEC PACKS. When the klitecodec packs asks you if you want to remove divx and xvid, say no. Choose "Lots of Stuff" for the install format. The thing is, free dvd ripper offers a LOT of control over the input/output processing so I'm certain you'll still end up having problems. I know the world of digital and audio video processing extremely well and even have snags with it here and there but, it's free with very advanced controls.
First you need to start playing the dvd in another player first. It initiates it so that this progrm can read it.
For choosing your output folder: click browse, then choose the folder you want to save your files to. (click My Documents and then my videos or something similar of your choice).then on the bottom, in the file name tab, replace *.* with whatever you want to call your file. Then click save.

Yeah i had same problem with this program so i uninstalled and search for other program and i've found it try using AOA DVD Ripper get the trial version if you don't want to spend money, you can rip 10 minutes out of a dvd at a time but you can rip it all 10 by 10 it'll take you bout 20 minutes to rip a one hour dvd hope this helps you, because that program sucks for me "Free DVD Ripper" =@ try to get the "AOA DVD RIPPER" that program does work ;D
i think my problem's been solved i just uninstalled and reinstalled my codec pack and the program and set it to run in compatibility mode with adminstrator rights

To follow up my previous comment, it looks like you need to play the DVD in a player first and then you should be able to rip it.
Hope this helps.
