Based on what I saw here, the person bitten went into convulsions. Were the paramedics able to save him, I sure hope so. I don't think he was looking to get bitten. Ifhe was looking for one, i don't think he was aware of the seriousness of a bite by one of these.
@jeweledmama2008 complete paralysis is never fun. Apparently, if the victim of this venom is given artificial respiration for 20+ min their body may metabolize the venom.
@furtherbeyond pretty much all Octopus species are venomus, but like most Spiders, the venom of the vast majority of them isnt very effective on humans, however if your a crab or one of their other usual meals, you may aswell be paralyzed and eaten alive
it's alright for people to have pets. just as long as the animal is not endangered. it's always been in human's nature to possess something beautiful whether it be an animal or an inanimate objects such as jewelry.
The Blue-Ringed Octopus is another one of the smaller, but more deadly marine animals that inhabit the coastal waters around Australia. The blue-ringed octopus is normally light in color, with dark brown bands over its eight arms and body, with blue circles superimposed on these dark brown bands. When the octopus is disturbed or taken out of the water, the colors darken and the rings turn a brilliant electric-blue color, and it is this color change that gives the animal its name.
idk but it is belived that the reason to why Australia is home to most venomous creatures is because of its tough, rigid and rough environment. According to evolution, the evolution has tried to coincide with the environment. the rougher the environment, the more reason why a certain species has to develop surviving capabilites like venom for killing preys and eating them..i believe australia has such environment that these creatures need extreme survival tactics and capabilities.
I suppose if you'd like to take all Bible passages literally, this is valid (not that I'm "fluent" with passages). I wouldn't say "if you believe in God, you believe he created us in his image" though. Christians and theists in general have vastly different interpretations of their respective scriptures.
In any case, I don't see how one species evolving into another is ridiculous compared to some theistic views, not that those views are bad or incorrect in any way.
worst part about being bit by one is if nobody knew what happened they would just think you're dead while you're merely paralyzed and can't breathe but still aware of your surroundings..if that happened you'd get the honor of watching yourself be put in a body bag
Even if you look like your dead, you have to make sure with a pulse check, I don't think any medic would make the mistake of immediately assuming your dead
Thanks! Great video. Good choice of music (who/what is the music by the way?). I've known about the Blue Ringed Octopus for almost 40 years. First time I've ever seen footage. Really beautiful. I knew they were tiny, too, but seeing them really emphasized just how small.
My comment is only for those who have stated they have or want one of these amazing little creatures. If you claim you have one, pick it up, wear it as a hat. If you claim you want one, go step infront of a bus. Just because something is fasinating, pretty, or uncommon, does not entitle you to have it. Learn to respect nature, and yourself a bit more. Sad that people feel the need to boost their ego by possessing things that don't belong outside of the natural environment they are found in.
@TryToGetMeLost So, what are you saying? Only James Bond villains are entitled to own them? And as a matter of fact, I think an octopus would make a rather fetching hat!
@TryToGetMeLost Sad that people feel the need to give us their unnecessary opinion on youtube, trying to gives a life lesson to everyone, but hey, thanks for your input.
@TryToGetMeLost the desire to contain and own one is a natural response to an amazing beautiful thing like this. Anyone who actually pursued this notion would learn the cost/labour involved to do so. It would take professional skills to keep one of these in a home aquarium. Don't fret over flippant comments.
@TryToGetMeLost How do you think Dogs evolved to be pets? Wild cats in the outback are actually becoming wild again, a house cat has pink paws a tiger or lion have black ones. People who say they want one obviously aren't going to get one, they are god damn cute and if they weren't so dangerous i would try to get one myself. But because people say they want one doesn't mean they actually want one!
Paul Oakenfold, Travelling has a more lively version of the song. Hard to keep around, though, as people like it, otherwise I would play it, name the tune, but at least there's a clue. Good luck.
Paul Oakenfold's version, "Melodica" can be heard on artistdirect site, from Paul Oakenfold's Album, Travelling. Really a good tune, but not found here on youtube, yet.
well, they wouldn't survive long if they were. hard to hide with bright colors, this is especially true with slow/clumsy ones. if they weren't packing a punch they'd die pretty fast in the wild...
Did i just read you right???? NOT LETHAL? lol...my friend the Blue ringed octopus is INCREDIBLY deadly! After you are bitten (which is a painless bite, your skin will just feel like it was scrathced) you literally have 2 minutes before your nervous system starts shutting down, by the third minute your body starts to becomes paralized and have respitory problems! Unless you get instant help, you'll be dead.
lol, well you do just 'go swimming' with them, they are in the water just like sharks are in the water. notvery likely to run into one and they will only attack you when felt highly under threat
Not lethal???? What a stupid comment. And fyi the venom contains tetrodotoxin, 5-hydroxytryptamine, hyaluronidase, tyramine, histamine, tryptamine, octopamine, taurine, acetylcholine, and dopamine.
omg its so fucking hard to get stung by one and if you did the tetrotoxin would kill you but whith all thoes things you would die very fast and your in the sea so how deap you would be you would probaly die anyways.
Are you truly as thick as this? They LIVE IN ROCK POOLS, SHALLOW ROCK POOLS. And the reason its difficult to get STUNG by one is that they BITE. With a razor shark beak, they actively will attack you if you get too close. Please stop commenting on things you obviously know nothing about.
Chlorene you mean? Get much chlorene in rockpools by you then? Do you take chlorene out with you when you go out? I had a dog and getting hit by a car killed it but it'd still have bitten me if it wanted to. Why am I even bothering. Its true, people are getting more stupid as years go by.
Contrary to popular belief, octopuses make great pets, you just gotta make sure your aquarium is completely covered from top to bottom, as they are escape artists. They are extremely intelligent creatures and once they learn to trust you they will entertain you for hours =]

Has it ever occured to you that perhaps evolution is part of God's creation? I never understood why people think the two are mutually exclusive...

Because if you believe in God, you believe he created us in his image, which goes against theories of evolution.
I believe in creation and adaptation, but to believe that species evolve into completely different species is just ridiculous.
