Thats not really a safe way to do this. You risk damaging the bead inside the tire. And then at high speed it can come off. If you really cant afford the 20 bucks to have the tires mounted and balanced you cant afford a bike. They sell manual machines for around 100 bucks at harbor freight. And not balacing the tires with BBs is retarded. It wont work.
believe me an unbalanced tire is like having a slight bend in the rim at high speeds plus a balanced tire has a longer tire life smoother ride and better handling
@simon4233 Add 1oz of AirSoft BBs. I read about this as a cheap alternative to dynabeads (google it, first hit). Basically, the beads roll around freely in the tire and if there is an imbalance, they naturally distribute themselves to counterbalance the weight. (I read) the wheel spins fast enough at 25 mph for this to occur, and for speeds <25, you won't notice an imbalance anyway.
you should be able to push the first bead on by hand ,with a little lube,no need for tyre irons.watch those fingers popping the bead ,better to have your hand flat across the tyre or leave it resting on a wall or chair etc

Great idea. Sure beats balancing the thing on an old bread crate.
