Guess the French wine farmers rioting had nothing to do with this further subsidization of a luxury product that there is just no market for.

Why do you think there's no demand for wine? It just has to be good wine. There's a lot of terrible wine produced under the current subsidy system. If they set up systems to improve quality, what's wrong with that?
