  • Im probly gonna buy an 09 base matrix. But what I really like is the awesome carbon grey color it has.

  • I've got an '03 base Matrix. I love that little car. Bought it new in late '02 and have had it ever since. 157,000mi and not even sounding tired yet. I'm gonna keep it a couple more years. I've only added a K&N and aftermarket stereo.

  • Do you still have the Matrix? How is it going?

  • @bottomlayer Yea I still drive this matrix and still very much enjoy it. I have not had the chance to do to much else to the car yet but I still plan to. So far I have the cold air intake from the video, Borla cat back exhaust, Tien lowering springs, drilled and slotted brake rotters, and a decent box amp and sub of the sound system. Most of it was done recently so ill be sure to post a new video soon.

  • hey man is this car any fun? i mean it looks pretty nice to be honest..u think its a good pick for a first car? vs say a mazdaspeed protege?

  • @kmk420stonerr YES I love this car. I think it would be a great pick for a first car. Especially now the 03-04's being a little older and cheaper. I recommend this model though over the rest of the matrix series. Toyota made a lot of changes in a little amount of time with this car so be careful what your buying. Mine is the 04 Toyota Matrix XRS with the VVTL-I 2ZZGE engine in it with a 6-speed manual transmission. Its just a great car that isnt to small and is fun to whip around with good MPGs

  • @kmk420stonerr I don't know a ton about the protege series but one of my buddies is a technician at there dealerships and has told me good things. Try checking out the Mazda 3 and Mazda 5 also. I just recommend doing a lot of homework. Read lots of forums with peoples experiences. Advertisements are lies mostly. And test drive as much as possible. Gonna spend tons of time in the tin can on wheels better make sure you like it right? Good luck, let me know what you get.

  • omfg that 2ZZ engine is beautiful <3

  • @christophur87 why thank you :)

  • my bad dumb ass question. I'm not turbocharged so that BOV wont work. but what about that cold air intake?

  • @007247 well at least you recognized your mistake :-D and i believe the intake could work for you car but I would recommend doing some more research before buying. Trying checking some Toyota matrix forums to see if any ones tried what your asking. I dont know as much about the Xr as the xrs.

  • Would this cold air intake work on a 2005 model matrix xr? On the AEM site I can only get a BOV... I don't know a whole lot about cars in terms of installing the right parts such as this. BUT, would i need anything else on the stock engine to install just the BOV? it would give this bad boy a sick sound without dropping a ton of doe.

  • what the fuck is hanging from your throttle cable

  • @tommylocs u shut your trap tom :)

  • Sounds good man, I have a TRD CAI on my 03 xrs. Love that sound when you get on it.

  • @jauken83 yup gotta love that lift at 3000rpms :D just like VTEC

  • @livnadayatatime Neither VVTL-I or V-TEC kick in at 3000..... Be awesome if they did though

  • i have an 08 vibe with the same motor....i love the car, its very fun to drive, not super fast(its the automatic trans), but handles great.

  • @10kpondguy ya unfortunately the AT really limits the engines power cause u simply cant get to max RPMs in most cases but yea i still agree, its really fun car

  • on the matrix/vibe, what else can you do for performance besides cold air? do they make intake manifolds/heads/throttles for the engine? i know i sound like a noob, but im just now looking into all wheel drive cars

  • @malleymyster well first off just a heads up I am not sure if you are saying the matrix is AWD cause all matrixs pending maybe 2010 or 11s are eaither front wheel drive or 4 wheel drive which is'nt the same as all wheel. And yes I have found intake man and heads for my year matrix but no luck on finding throttles yet. And there's tons more you could do for themotor. Ive found entire $4-5,000 turbo sets that would add lots of power. But it cuts your engine life in about half most of the time.

  • Sounds less tinny than the injen cai.

  • @rick9565 Yea im not a huge fan of injen cai the difference in sound or performance isnt huge but im still all AEM fan :)

  • hi i wanted to change my stock air filter to a short ram or cold air intake, but there are soo many brands that i dont know which one to get... do you have any suggestions?

  • btw i have a 03 matrix xr autotrans 2 wheel drive

  • @d7reprezent the auto trans and standard VVT motor are going to much kick even with a couple bolt ons. But if u do intake and some nice headers and exhaust it will sound really nice I recommend DC headers and Borla exhaust little more price but in automotive you normally get what you pay for.

  • @d7reprezent i prefer AEM simply because i love the look, sound, and they are reliable and are a big enough company to where if u have issues u can contact them easily. I had no issues with mine besides the fact that the instruction book was not for my year matrix but it was still fairly simple and me and a friend handled it in about a hour. BE SURE to get a intake with a carb sticker since SMOGing is becoming more and more of a issue. If you don't have that sticker I dont think they pass you.

  • I have a 5th gen prelude now and im thinking of switching to a matrix. I like the looks of this.

  • Preludes can be pretty cool but i would recommend a matrix and if u do your homework i think u will agree. Just a fun fact for ya if u lay all the seats down in the matrix u almost have the same cargo space as a average size truck bead which is alot! 2wice as much cargo room as its sister car the celica but with the same powerful engine :) lots of other cool facts like that can be found all over the web

  • lol nice... sweet, sweet vvti... wow didn't know the old trix's ran with cable throttle.

  • Yup good ol cable throttle lol if u look close i hung a removed VSV valve from the cable! HAH i did not know what to do with it at first but its all good now, and in its right place. OH and its a vvt-L-i on the older trix's much different then the regular vvti it like the hondas vtech in that the L stands for LIFT intellagence and boy when u hit 3000 RPMs you can really fell and hear the difference.

  • I Have A 05 XR And I Wanna Add A Cold Air Intake Do You Notice Any Speed Difference??

  • There is a slight difference in speed but not a lot. I still highly recommend it, its one of the first stepping stones of many to improving your ride. (plus is sounds pretty sweet also)

  • How do know my cars a pos? Cause u saw a video 2 years or more old that only shows the motor for 5 fucking seconds. Ur an idiot. The cars much more modified now. And the dumb shit that talked bout "it's possible, they did it to a skyline" of course u can damn near do anything with enough money I've seen vets with 8 turbos. But that guy that talked bout that in a matrix is a dumb liar. Without major engine rebuilt part that motor could never handle that kinda psi.

  • anyone wanna race?? are yhou joking your cars a pos

  • you need to get better infor on your car, there actually a different between the year of each matrix xrs. i got my xrs in april 0f 02 with the original 180hp. you know 04 and up are now only a base of 170 hp for the xrs. i worked at toyota. with the aem intake your just might be pushing 5 hp. should of gotten the trd. and xrs models dont come in supercharge from trd only base xr.

  • smurfz651 your an idiot

  • that all you can say. got nothing to prove am an idiot. prove me wrong.

  • lol you first post is all the proof i need that your an idiot

  • No difference between years. Just marketing gimmick and insurance reasons. All 2zz are 190 hp.

  • Uhh dude, how can you have a twin supercharger with a turbo?

  • its possible.....

they've made a skyline w/ twin supercharger and twin turbo

  • zomg i can't begin to say how flawed your comment is.

  • ya dude that comment sounds like its ALL FAKE.

  • Fucking idiot. It's not a twin cam engine first of all. It's a DOHC (dual over head cam). You cant have twin superchargers on a car with a turbo and intercooler, they don't fit, and the engine can't handle that much horsepower on stock internals, faggot. Get a life.

  • how much of a difference you think a cold intake makes...is everything else stock?

  • Cold air intakes usually put out 6-12hp, and it all depends on current mods, engine size and what the stock intake ability was. So design is a factor.

  • is that a 2005 aem intake? cause i cant find one for my 2004 xrs

  • Ya i think it is. My friend actually bought it becaue he dented my car lol. One peice of advice. do not plug up the little silver vacuum valve that AEM tells u to with a cap they provde. It will cause check engine. u have to run a hose from ur bottom VSV (vaccum switching valve, the bottom one) to that silver thing they tell u to cover, completeing the vaccum. In the video i had it set up wrong. I even had the VSV they tell u to take out hanging from my throttle cable! lol thats all fixed now.

  • The AEM CAI (cold air intake) gives the car the abilty to draw in more and colder air for the motor in the intake stroke. Allowing a little tourque and horse power increase

  • It is also giving the intake a high velocity of incoming air thanks to the smooth mandrel piping and deletion on baffles.

  • WATS THE AEM INTAKE FOR?

  • Where do you get bolt-ons for a Matrix?

  • Like what..? Ebay actually has stuff but make sure you're getting a REAL part and not a knockoff

  • sounds great

  • Where you live?

  • Lets race then
