Wow, this version does sound really awesome. Sounds more crisp than the original... almost like a 'digital remaster'. I wish all of the sound effects were taken out though. ALmusic, do you have a link to your enhanced music soundtrack anymore? Your link doesn't seem to work anymore. I'd love to have this!

The music in Sonic 1 was some of the best in video game history. But if the Genesis was capable of generating quality sound and music like this, why did most Genesis games have such crappy sound and instruments? I'm not even talking about the musical composition quality, just the sound quality of the instruments and effects. For example, compare the thumping, full sound of Sonic 1's bass and drums to the crappy little sounds and bassless music of, say, Blaster Master 2.
