I've read the list of questions, nothing there I'd be opposed to my nieces being asked in the context of a play write conducting interviews, and nothing I'd mind my nephews being asked the equivalent of.

kifly, although what you say is factual (they're stories based on other people's input) - couldyou imagine the uproar had a man done a similar play, asking boys as young as six "how does your penis smell" and such. Had it been a man, we'd call him a pedo - because it's a woman, specifically a feminist we're told to say "it's empowering..." blah - hypocrisy.

There is a book called The Penis Dialogues, you know. In the monologues, the piece about the coochisnorcher does admit that it was "politically uncorrect" but the general theme is that this particular girl was empowered by it. She's also SIXTEEN, older than 12.

Actually, in the true story the piece came from the lady says she was 13 at the time, and the age was increased to 16 later on because of the controversy. Either way the point is the same. And while mathewskarl is probably correct that there would be an uproar had a man asked young boys what they thought of their penises, that fact alone would not make it wrong, any more than public resistance to women voting or to gay marriage, nor would it mean the man is a necessarily a pedophile.

As the author of this video, let me say that it is NOT meant as a slap in the face, but rather as an affectionate send up. I'm a big fan of Eve Ensler. I hope she sees this video and I hope it makes her smile.

Now then, I don't think Eve Ensler is promoting rape by allowing this person, the young girl you mention, to tell her story. Remember, Ensler did not write this, she collected the stories, edited, and put together the monologues. I would not want Ensler or mathewskarl to tell this girl or the woman she's become how to interpret her own story. I was interested in her take on it. I will admit I found that particular monologue challenging.

Catlowman, in Eve's play, a 12 yr old girl is raped by an adult lesbian. The 12yr old character states "If that was rape, it was a good rape." So, according to the VM, raping minors is good (as long as it's a female doing the raping)

I think you need to get your facts straight. In the play, she's 16. You know, everyone loves to bitch about her having a relationship with an older woman yet NO ONE objects to the fact that at the age of ten, this same girl was RAPED by her father's friend. That is utter bullshit.

The *original*, which went out to thousands before being revised, used a twelve year old character. Even at 16, that is still not legal in many countries.

The objection isn't that someone raped someone (obviously, that in of itself IS objectional) - the objection here is that one is painted as bad (male rape of a female) while the female rape (of the young child) is painted as "good".

I don't believe that interpretation of Eve Ensler's play. She was trying to present people's own experiences as they perceived them. Like it or not, the "Coochie Snorcher" piece was from a true story. Oh wait never mind it couldn't have been true because people have absolutely no interest in sex up until the exact moment they turn 18. 11:59 pm the day before--no interest in sex. 12:00 am the next day--interest in sex. (Or does it have to be the actual time they were born? Like if they...

I'm sorry mathewskarl, but you can't simply ignore reality, even if reality does happen to be politically incorrect. (Well I guess you can, but what you, I, or anyone else happens to think of reality doesn't change it one iota from what it actually is.) There are pedophiles out there who commit horrible acts, there are gray areas, and there are even people who fall in love and end up in a lasting relationship such as Mary Kay Letourneau. Reality refuses to fit into one single mold.
