guys I am from europe and I love NBA. Don;t get me wrong but after Jordan Era )with barkley, malone etc) there haven't been really great great players. Le bron and bryant were very good ,but not at the same level as the previous ones. For example Le bron does not have an impressive mid range jumper, while bryant keeps shooting form 7 metres 3-pointers with an efficiency of 3/12 FG. they are very impressive as players but not as efficient. However Durant IS the GREAT PLAYER
durant's determination, leadership and work ethic are "lightyears" ahead of lebron's... skill i'd say is about right there with him, just lacks the strength...
@aleeda5000 umm... No. lebron was clearly better than everyone in the nba last "season". thus him winning the nba mvp. it was unanimous and he received the most 1st place votes in nba history... so ya. durant may have been second, but he was a FAR second from lebron. besides, players from 8th seed teams never win MVP's. maybe this year though...
@MrJeckel yea lebron was good but kd turn the thunder around they only won 23 games last season and thanks to him and some help(westbrook and green) he'they doubled the record in wins and u cant even lie kd did have a good season in 09-10
@aleeda5000 he did but he deserved runner up LeBron was runaway winner like 4 weeks into the season and kept showing us more so the right choice was made. Durant may have a really good chance this year though with LeBron not caring about mvps and numbers anymore just championships.
@BTAKVE agreed. if durant does what he is supposed to and improves his passing/defense he should be the consensus MVP which i think will make him the youngest to ever win the award. that would be nice.
@aleeda5000 he had a good season. but nowhere near the season lebron had. lebron had the 20th best season in win shares (how much wins a player contributes solely to a team) last yr. durant didnt even crack top 100 in that category. again. Durant had an awesome season. however lebron led his team to the best record in the nba with a 30-8.6-7 avg.... clearly the MVP. durant scored and led. thats about it. his assist/turnover ratio and overall defense wasn't great at all.
@Ballislifedotcom ALLL DAY, i remember some sports analysis dude said kevin durant will be the best player in the nba in 4-5 years. That was when he first came in.
@Daimo247 Well taking intro consideration Durant in his 3rd year was a far more skilled scorer than LeBron in his 3rd year, Kevin Durant is up there with Melo and right behind Kobe as far as being skilled scorers, all Lebron knew how to do in his 3rd year was over power his opponents.. the only thing LeBron did better was average more assists..
@Ballislifedotcom lebron had way more assists (making his weaker teammates better), about equal rebounds, and was less of a liability on defense. kevin durant assuredly has better scoring tools, but he "only" put up 30.1 per game while lebron powered his way to 31.4 per game his third year, with similar efficiency (except for free throws, where kevin durant was a phenomenal 90%)
@Ballislifedotcom the thunder had a better "team" than the cavs did. i would say that the combo of westbrook/green was better than the combo of eric snow/drew gooden wouldn't you? it all comes down to how they performed in pressure playoff situations in their 3rd yrs. lebron thrived back then, durant obviously crumbled this year. thats why i say lebron was the better player.
@MrJeckel way to leave out ilgalskus who was a all-star either that year or the year before. How can you say Durant crumbled? He played the eventual back to back champions had he started out played against a weak team like LeBron did and then advanced and played another team NOT the Lakers he might've averaged better stats than LeBron.. You can't just compare numbers bro, you gotta look at the situation
@Ballislifedotcom as far as scorers are concerned, durant is obviously better. but as far as basketball i.q., understanding of the game and most importantly leadership, lebron in his 3rd yr was lightyrs ahead of durant.when durant was faced with being guarded by artest, he crumbled. heavily. lebron was awesome against detroits defense in his 3rd year... and that defense was much better than the lakers defense of today with sheed and 4 time DPOY in big ben manning the paint.
@MrJeckel You're underrating Durant's basketball IQ and leadership.. lightyears ahead of Durant? c'mon dude! You don't lead one of the youngest teams to 50 wins in a competitive western conference and not be a great leader or have mediocre basketball IQ
@Ballislifedotcom stats don't lie. players that have terrible asst-turnover ratios like durant are usually the kind of players that don't have the b-ball i.q. it takes a 6-8 SF vast basketball I.Q. to pass it and be the floor general lebron was in his 3rd yr. i look at durants 3rd year and i see one hell of a scorer with efficiency. but in terms of floor leadership? he didnt have what lebron had. luckily he had westbrook to relieve some pressure. lebron had eric snow for that... not good.
@MrJeckel you're playing the game of taking too much credit away from LeBron's team and giving too much credit to Durant's team.
Not saying Lebron had a great team but he did have some solid role players around him, yet you're making it seem like Eric Snow was the 2nd best player on the team.
@Ballislifedotcom that 2007 season...eric snow was the 2nd best player on the cavs. That's the sad part. larry hughes was sorry and ilgauskus was not better than snow
The only reason Kevin Durant struggled in the playoffs was because he had one of the best defenders on him (Ron Artest). That guy screws up everybody's game. He screwed up Pierce's game during the playoffs and he did so with Durant, and in 2008 when he was in houston they took LA to seven games despite being 8th seed. Hell, L.A prolly took artest cause he was the only threat to efficiently controlling Bryant. You just can't say he crumbled during that series. He was just guarded well.
@blackmadina99 To be frank, ron artest doesn't make wade/lebron/carmelo shoot 35% from the field ever. that nullifies your first point. secondly, pierce was off all playoffs lebron held him to less ppg on less fg% than artest did. Pierce avg 18ppg on 44% shooting vs. artest in the finals. Pierce avg 13.5ppg on 34.5% shooting against lebron. in 08 if u watched it, artest was horrible offensively in the last 4 games of the series. his defense was ok as long as he wasnt guarding kobe.
You have lots of good points but i don't think lebron has good leadership qualities. He's a "pass to me and let me handle it" kind of player. Kind of like Jordan in his early years when he'd try and do everything by himself. He is not a capable leader right now, it best shows last series with Boston. I got irritated when he just gave up on the game when there was still a chance. A good leader shouldn't show qualities like that. But again, i dont blame him with his lack of support.
@blackmadina99 "pass it to me and let me handle it"? lol that makes him not a good leader? that doesn't make sense. in lebrons alleged "quit" game 5 the team lost 120-88 yes they lost by 32 points. they had no chance. and in the game 6? please lebron went 27-19-10 yes he had 9 turnovers but rebounds are the biggest effort statistic out there. i mean seriously they lost by 9 and jamison had 5 points thats your answer. besides kobe quit in 06 game 7 scoring 1 pt in the 2nd half taking 3 shots
@blackmadina99 & on top of that artest was not the kobe stopper in 08... i mean seriously... if you watched even 1 game in that 08 semifinal series you would know by now that it was Shane Battier that locked down kobe bryant. As soon as artest switched on kobe kobe went to town. battier was the rockets best defender in 08 not artest at all.
yes, i have to agree that shane was better on him than anybody else, but still. The lakers wouldn't assign artest to guard the opposing teams best player for no reason right? Oh, and artest i also agree that he is horrible offensively taking horrible shots but his defense is better than a lot out there.
@Ballislifedotcom if you compare lebron's 2nd round series with the pistons vs. durants 1st rd series with the lakers you would see what im talking about... lebron had his way with the best defensive team in the nba that year. he didnt win but shot a high percentage and passed/rebounded well. durant was shut down by artest most of the time, shot horribly from the field/three, yet again had a horrible asst/to ratio and i could argue that westbrook was better than durant all series...
@Ballislifedotcom Lebron james' 3rd year=31.4ppg, 7rpg, 6.6apg, 48%fg, 33.5% 3pt, 73.8% from the line, 3.29tpg . Kevin durant's 3rd yr=30.1ppg, 7.6rpg, 2.8apg, 47.6%fg, 36.5% 3pt%, 90%ft , 3.3tpg. now in the reg season i would say durant was obviously the better shooter/rebounder. however my major knock on durant is his defense and assist/turnover ratio thus making him less efficient. that alone made lebron better...
@Ballislifedotcom lebron 3rd season 1st playoffs=30.8ppg, 8.1rpg, 5.8apg, 47.6fg%, 33%3pt, 73,7%ft, 5topg. Durant 3rd season 1st playoffs= 25ppg, 7.7rpg, 2.3apg, 35%fg, 28.6%3pt, 87.1%ft, 3.7topg. and to also note, lebron led his team to a rd 2 game 7 loss to detroit while durant led his team to a 1st rd game 6 loss to L.A. bron was clearly better his 3rd season. I think with this and my other post lebron>durant in his third season is obvious...
@Ballislifedotcom lebron played the wiz and then played the defending eastern conference champion pistons whom were also a top defense tooth and nail to game 7. now you may say artest is the reason durant was so awful. what i say to you is that lebron was facing an all time elite defense and still managed to come a rebound short of the ECF... looking at the stats alone should show you that lebron was better. guess not.
@MrJeckel The Pistons defense couldn't stop someone like LeBron, their center was Ben Wallace at 6'9.. LeBron is nearly 6'9" himself and a freak athlete, who else did the Pistons have, the twig man aka Tayshon Prince? Rip hamilton? They were a great defensive team but still didn't have the bodies to stop LeBron.. however the next year when LeBron played the Spurs the Spurs just clogged the lane with their bigs and length and LeBron put on a horrible performance and got swept..
