guys I am from europe and I love NBA. Don;t get me wrong but after Jordan Era )with barkley,malone etc) there haven't been really great great players. Le bron and bryant were very good ,but not at the same level as the previous ones. For example Le bron does not have an impressive mid range jumper, while bryant keeps shooting form 7 metres 3-pointers with an efficiency of 3/12 FG. they are very impressive as players but not as efficient. However Durant IS the GREAT PLAYER

No. lebron was clearly better than everyone in the nba last "season". thus him winning the nba mvp. it was unanimous and he received the most 1st place votes in nba history... so ya. durant may have been second, but he was a FAR second from lebron. besides, players from 8th seed teams never win MVP's. maybe this year though...

@aleeda5000 he had a good season. but nowhere near the season lebron had. lebron had the 20th best season in win shares (how much wins a player contributes solely to a team) last yr. durant didnt even crack top 100 in that category. again. Durant had an awesome season. however lebron led his team to the best record in the nba with a 30-8.6-7 avg.... clearly the MVP. durant scored and led. thats about it. his assist/turnover ratio and overall defense wasn't great at all.

@Ballislifedotcom lebron had way more assists (making his weaker teammates better), about equal rebounds, and was less of a liability on defense. kevin durant assuredly has better scoring tools, but he "only" put up 30.1 per game while lebron powered his way to 31.4 per game his third year, with similar efficiency (except for free throws, where kevin durant was a phenomenal 90%)

@Ballislifedotcom the thunder had a better "team" than the cavs did. i would say that the combo of westbrook/green was better than the combo of eric snow/drew gooden wouldn't you? it all comes down to how they performed in pressure playoff situations in their 3rd yrs. lebron thrived back then, durant obviously crumbled this year. thats why i say lebron was the better player.

@Ballislifedotcom as far as scorers are concerned, durant is obviously better. but as far as basketball i.q., understanding of the game and most importantly leadership, lebron in his 3rd yr was lightyrs ahead of durant.when durant was faced with being guarded by artest, he crumbled. heavily. lebron was awesome against detroits defense in his 3rd year... and that defense was much better than the lakers defense of today with sheed and 4 time DPOY in big ben manning the paint.

@Ballislifedotcom stats don't lie. players that have terrible asst-turnover ratios like durant are usually the kind of players that don't have the b-ball i.q. it takes a 6-8 SF vast basketball I.Q. to pass it and be the floor general lebron was in his 3rd yr. i look at durants 3rd year and i see one hell of a scorer with efficiency. but in terms of floor leadership? he didnt have what lebron had. luckily he had westbrook to relieve some pressure. lebron had eric snow for that... not good.

The only reason Kevin Durant struggled in the playoffs was because he had one of the best defenders on him (Ron Artest). That guy screws up everybody's game. He screwed up Pierce's game during the playoffs and he did so with Durant, and in 2008 when he was in houston they took LA to seven games despite being 8th seed. Hell, L.A prolly took artest cause he was the only threat to efficiently controlling Bryant. You just can't say he crumbled during that series. He was just guarded well.

@blackmadina99 To be frank, ron artest doesn't make wade/lebron/carmelo shoot 35% from the field ever. that nullifies your first point. secondly, pierce was off all playoffs lebron held him to less ppg on less fg% than artest did. Pierce avg 18ppg on 44% shooting vs. artest in the finals. Pierce avg 13.5ppg on 34.5% shooting against lebron. in 08 if u watched it, artest was horrible offensively in the last 4 games of the series. his defense was ok as long as he wasnt guarding kobe.

You have lots of good points but i don't think lebron has good leadership qualities. He's a "pass to me and let me handle it" kind of player. Kind of like Jordan in his early years when he'd try and do everything by himself. He is not a capable leader right now, it best shows last series with Boston. I got irritated when he just gave up on the game when there was still a chance. A good leader shouldn't show qualities like that. But again, i dont blame him with his lack of support.

As soon as artest switched on kobe kobe went to town. battier was the rockets best defender in 08 not artest at all.

@Ballislifedotcom if you compare lebron's 2nd round series with the pistons vs. durants 1st rd series with the lakers you would see what im talking about... lebron had his way with the best defensive team in the nba that year. he didnt win but shot a high percentage and passed/rebounded well. durant was shut down by artest most of the time, shot horribly from the field/three, yet again had a horrible asst/to ratio and i could argue that westbrook was better than durant all series...

@MrJeckel The Pistons defense couldn't stop someone like LeBron, their center was Ben Wallace at 6'9.. LeBron is nearly 6'9" himself and a freak athlete, who else did the Pistons have, the twig man aka Tayshon Prince? Rip hamilton? They were a great defensive team but still didn't have the bodies to stop LeBron.. however the next year when LeBron played the Spurs the Spurs just clogged the lane with their bigs and length and LeBron put on a horrible performance and got swept..
