One thing I've always been confused by and that's the access route/s to West Berlin from West Germany.
I know there was a motorway connecting the two areas but how was it fortified? Was the border running alongside or was there a checkpoint at each end? Could someone let me know the answer please?
Transit roads betw West Germany & Berlin were shared by transit traffic & East Germans. Cars in transit were not allowed to turn off, while East Germans had to exit no later than the last turn-off before the border. The only place Western cars could leave was the service stations (also open to East Germans), which were pretty grotty, but interesting cos of the chance to 'mix'. The entrances/exits from the motorways were heavily fortified, and the roads heavily patrolled.

The first scene where the man is looking over the Wall is from an intersection of Bernauer Strasse, Eberswalder Strasse, Oderberger Strasse, and Schwedter Strasse. I think the tram steers away to Eberswalder Strasse direction.
Second scene where the woman is walking. I think this is from Treptow district. First she's walking the Elsenstrasse northbound and then she "hits" the wall that runs along Heidelberger Strasse. So she turns right at the crossroad and walks along Heidelberger Strasse to her house. This is just a hunch.

dont know if anyone else knew this but i thought id share. when the gaurds were together one would allways be married the other single. the married man would have to prevent the single man from running as the married man could not leave and if the single man got away it was the married man and his family eho would suffar terrible this only stoped only 20 years ago. my dad served in and around the berlin wall in the late 70s early 80s at checkpoint charlie.

Íf you know the history then you should know that most Israelis are originally European jews that were given a new state after WW2. They had a choice between a part of Argentina or a part of Palestine. Instead of going back to their homes after the war like everyone else, they decided to steal the homes of Palestinians. Many Palestinians had to move to refugee camps, these refugee camps are still populated with people that want their homes back, even after 60 years.

You are simply incorrect. Israel was given a state, and so were the Arabs, the Arabs decided to attack and try to exterminate Israel, and they failed, thus they lost their state. Palis are a made up race, most of them came from Jordan and Saudi Arabia, Syria. Palestine refers to the Roman term for that region of the world during their time controlling it. The refugee situation was created by other Arab states who refused to let the Palis return to their original homelands. You know nothing!

Yes the motion was set when Austria and Hungry opened its border but the flood gates were open because Günter Schabowski the GDR (East German) Propaganda minster accidentally misread a press release by saying all traveling restrictions were to be lifted immedately. So you can pretty much thank this guy for setting in motion the reunification of Germany. Even today this guy renounce the GDR's repressive ways.

Because the Western Europe was democratic with the lead of the USA and Eastern Europe was comunism with the lead of CCCP (russia today).
Berlin wall was the border between them. And present day Germany was separated for DDR(democratic) and NDR (comunism). The berlin wall "is" the line, where the United army and Soviet army met during the ending of WW2.

The border between the two states has been set during the conference of the heads of the Anti-Nazi-Allies (Josef W. Stalin, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill) in Yalta.
The later border was definitely not the line were the armies met.

"The Wall" was actually only in Berlin (around Westberlin) between the former french, british and american controlled sector and the surrounding soviet sector.
Some much smaller walls heve been in different divided villages along the so called "green border" between the two states.
Normally Tanks have not been at the Berlin Wall. Only a few times during the cold war Americans and Soviets showed what they got.

The first scene where the man is looking over the Wall is from an intersection of Bernauer Strasse, Eberswalder Strasse, Oderberger Strasse, and Schwedter Strasse. I think the tram steers away to Eberswalder Strasse direction.

Second scene where the woman is walking. I think this is from Treptow district. First she's walking the Elsenstrasse northbound and then she "hits" the wall that runs along Heidelberger Strasse. So she turns right at the crossroad and walks along Heidelberger Strasse to her house. This is just a hunch.
