I have spent time in the UAE and Bahrain, As westernized as some of the urban areas may seem, it's not for the locals. There is still a loud anti-west voice. I went to a Ponderosa steak house in Dubai, There were no native Arabs there. Asian staff, largely UK patrons. There is a small progressive movement but it is stifled by the overwhelmingly loud anti-west sentiment.
