Captures the (Beethovian) dynamic energy of this movement so well - this IS the Seventh Symphony afer all! Better than Katsaris, or anybody else I've yet heard. The Beethoven/Liszt symphonies are much more elusive than people think.. Well done and thanks Pasquale..
Ah-ha-ha, this video gave me a bunch of healthy laughter as this Gouldian manner to hum is really hilarious. But we should notice that Gould used to sing when the piano was incapable of expressing the pianists's intentions. And mr. Iannone rattles as if he was pulling an enormous log or pushing through a blocked door.
That's a great idea to add a new jewel to the brilliant 'shreds' series on YT. The video editor must add as much grunting as possible.
it's great but I think the end got a bit too discordant. I'm not blaming the pianist, Im' blaming Liszt haha. The bassy chords overpower the actual melody and it sounds far more dissonant then the orchestral version. otherwise wonderful--- all of his beethoven symphony transcriptions are great
i think if we calculated his margin of error there might be a consideration. but i guess his mistakes were the duration of notes. it is because there are too many notes so probably he can't cope up with the duration of notes anymore. well, i think too that it is irrelevant, because it's an orchestral version. hehehe. good work.
I'm confident that it's harder than the hammerklavier sonata. It certainly has many more notes and though I have never worked on it, I've seen the score.
He does battle with the song and the piano. Its sounds he's fighting it more than letting it flow out of him. More forced than joy bursting out. It could be more polished the naxos cd recording is perfect.
The "battle" is held between the piano and camera's microphone (or sound encoding setting). It's a pity that the recording sound is so bad. The performance as well as Liszt transcription is GREAT!
all music is emotion. that is why music exists. this guy if full of emotion. and he goes nuts with emotion. he loses himself. grunts and curses god for the sake of playing this piece. for the sake of music.
I f you melt listening to this transcription, try listening to the original version with full orchestra! Hard to believe someone could write music like this. The power and force of it.....wow! And yes, the pianist is outstanding. And gave a great performance!
Does Chopin Op.10-5 go into minor? I thought it was just all major and that's why Chopin hated his pupils playing it for him. Or am I just a little confused? :/
Good job. Liszt's transcriptions are probably the toughest pieces that they wrote. They are simply not written for the piano and therefore hard to memorize and learn. Great job here Mr. Lannone.
gould already did that. They sound pianistic here .Gould gives them a breadth and excited urgency in 7th. 5 and esp. 6th that does the music a favor. I will have to keep list to Pasq. Miss the brass and woodwind. string sounds. Its funny in gould's rec I dont feel Im missing the gruops .I'll just have keep list to this cuz I dont like it much right now.
Nice work, pasquale182003. The problem with these transcriptions is not just there technical difficulty but more so you must have a real knowledge of the Beethoven symphonies to do them justice. I would love to hear a conductor/pianist record these amazing Liszt transcriptions such Ashkenazy or Barenboim since they have so much insight into Beethoven's music over all.
Liszt Transcribed every single Beethoven Symphony, and also many other works like Operas and stuff he was pretty good at transcribing in his day, Unbelievable i've been looking for someone to post a video of these songs on youtube cuz i've only heard them on CD and i have the Sheet music Bravo man unbelievable.

That's the effect you will usually get when you try to group as many parts of a symphony you can into a piano. Obviously it was never meant to be crowded into just one instrument. But the attempt is nothing short of brilliant. He even adds extra notes to compensate for the piano's inability to replicate the tremolo sounds.
Thanks for posting, I really like your approach. You can say these transcriptions have lost a bit their function, but they are really pianistic milestones and should be heard.

Is the point of music to marvel at the difficulty or to experience the emotion? I think a lot of classical music has lost its way.
