  • Neat. I'd like to see a video of the same simulation but with the view centered on North America.

  • All too easy ... perhaps Earth has evolved into more complex conditions

  • what a load of rubbish. images like these remind me of the struggle copernicus had in the middle ages.

the earth is expanding and contracting. the "tectonic plates" are the earths weakest points/rips. i do agree that magma is released, however its not due to tectonic plate movement. its due to "pressure", hence the expansion/stretching of the sea floor.

for once i would like to see a 3d simulation and not cut away. they dont show because they know its not possible!

  • Hi everyone, I can supply some extra information about the exhibit. The the device is called Globe4D and was created in late 2005 by me and 3 other students at MSc. Media Technology at Leiden University The Netherlands. Since then we have been travelling a lot showing it on different conferences and festivals. It is currently on permanent display in 6 museums worldwide (Netherlands, Germany, South Korea, Yemen and Portugal). We're still producing and shipping. Rick

  • i like this video. so much i married it

  • interesting

  • that looks cool, guess the next oilfields will be made up of human remains not dinosaurs....lol

  • JAPAN

  • hello persons

  • Still searching for a animation which shows the evolution of the oceanic floors, not found here either.

  • allien music :S

  • go smoke a pesto fart

  • Try fiting the continents together on the Pacific side, the west coast of the Americas to Asia. We see them fitting on the Atlantic side all the time. Have a look at it (nealadams the growing earth) on youtube.

  • i think this is wrong isn't it

  • Yes this is a horrible theory. Ocean floor spreading is a hoax spread by naive mass media in the 1900's.

  • It just is amazing that even during the era of modern science that myths and fables are still being created.

  • The problem with this theory is that if all land comes from the same side then there would have been massive subduction on the other side, almost like a black hole sucking up the tectonic plates (ocean floor in this case) merging. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but I've never heard anyone mentioning it.

  • Yes, Plate Tectonics is riddled with problems, only one of which you have pointed out. All the active subduction zones are in the Pacific. Not only are there serious problems accounting for the putative quantities of subducted (oceanic and continental) crust, there are also problems with establishing the energy mechanisms required to drive such motion, most of which is currently explained, but not without problems, contradictions and controversy, by mantle convection.

  • theres a way you can explain see and prove..

have you ever seen whole milk freshly taken out of a cow.??

well whe you do.. begin boiling that milk then let it rest for say.....about an hr or two..

then comeback the little coatin you will see is morelikely to be an example of earths crust.. soooo.. when you begin boilin the milk.. yet again. that mas begins to crumble.. soo you get your tectonic plates.. so there you have your continent movmt and your earthquake and your theory.. thankx ^_^

  • Awesome! But I don't understand where the image is coming from. Ceiling projectors fitted to work with a round surface?

  • Yes it was a quite a complicated set up of projectors. The globe itself could be fully rotated in any direction. The part around the outside that you can see moving was in a horizontal position around the globe and could be rotated to move backwards or forwards in time. You could also rotate the globe at the same time to show different parts of the Earth. It was really clever and seemed quite advanced for such a small museum. I do not really know how they did it but it was, as you say, awesome.

  • I've seen this display elsewhere and it was in English, it's a travelling display.

  • OK - maybe they just translated it into Dutch for this museum

  • Are tectonic plates the same as normal plates?

That's all I need to know!

  • @Dracopol yahhhh that was so awesome

  • Billions of years I found a good web site for ancient maps to back up the 5 bill theory or more . click on my name and read more TY

  • Thanks. I looked at your video of Ancient Maps. Very interesting.

  • Not much will happen even in a few thousand years. This video shows the break up of Pangea which began 250 million years ago. There were several 'super-continents' before this too. After all, the Earth is 4.5 billion years old :) And don't worry about 2012 - nothing will happen :) In 50 million years from now, California will be a part of Alaska and Africa will be split in to 3 separate pieces, among many other changes to all the continents worldwide. Look it up on Wikipedia - it's fascinating.

  • they fit. so0o0 what ? we still cant stop fighting each other

  • Unfortunately I am not that clever. We just filmed this from a display in a museum. Have the seen the other videos? We filmed them from different perspectives of the Earth.

  • Not because some ancient calendar is said to go to a new era in that year, I hope?

  • That is a nice idea and I would if I could. However any changes over the next 3 to 4 years (before the World ends in 2012 I presume you mean) would be too microscopic to register on this scale :-)
