  • Ron, this is just superb! Sometimes, I'm late to vids, but I make it sooner or later, hehe. And I'm so glad when I do. Honestly, I've always thought you're one of the best musicians I've ever run across on Youtube. Just precision performances and wonderful heartfelt songwriting! Going straight on my favorites list. :) Janet

  • @onewomanandsomesongs It is always great when you pay a visit Janet, anytime. There no "late" on YT the way I see it. Thanks for the great comment. Have a nice Friday and weekend coming up. -Ron

  • Hey Ron that's superb! I love your way with a lyric and with your music. This has like a McCartney style sound like in his solo years. :) Beautiful easy going rhythmic style. You have a great pop style in this song. I love the simplicty of just a nice acoustic song. You sing great too my buddy and your playing is just great. I should be such an accomplished composer and musican like you,I wish. :) You have a wonderful pleasant sound that's endearing. :)))

  • @cbrb40 Thank you Rick. Greetings to you on this hot Friday evening :o) -Ron

  • Yes, is great!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrECLECTICIAN Mjuch thanks to you, I really appreciate your nice comment. -Ron

  • Amazing how you can come up with songs so often. Another good work.

  • @musicfamily Thanks very much, and thanks for doing that David Bowie song. It was great. -Ron

  • @CharmedQuarkZ99 Hello Richard. Sorry for the late response. I've been tied up at work a lot lately. Yea, I hear what you are saying Richard, it is very true. I hope you are handling the heat ok over your way. It is very bad where I am not. Talk to you later. -Ron

  • Another great song, Ron!

  • @paxukulele Hi John, thanks very much and I am looking forward to your next one. -Ron

  • Hey Ron, some excellent song-smithing here, very polished. Lyrics are really cohesive / consistent – clever and hip, without cliches; the rhymes are all fresh -really a joy to listen to. Some well-conceived chords and the part I liked best is the guitar work on the chorus, “I’ll see through you” some very interesting harmonies there. They make an impact. –almost like you song’s hook. -And a darn good performance too. Really nice work. Have a great weekend - Karl

  • @karlmahlmann Hello Karl, since I am not a particularly good guitar player I need to rely on riffs and chord structures to help me get the song across so I really appreciate your observations here. I am looking forward to your next one Karl. Your uploads are now big events here in our circle. -Ron

  • Hi Ron,

thanks a lot for again a new great song!

    All the best for you

    Wolfgang

  • @WolfgangRaetz Hi Wolfgang, thanks to you and have a great week coming up. -Ron

  • At 1:46 the run of chords are positively avant garde sounding! Like it, bring it back again I reckon (heard you do similar stylistc Yessy changes in earlier posts you ol' progster!) and the part where you say "stop" is fabulous too. The WAY you say it combined with the musical stops, besides being onomatapoeaic (musically?) has an almost existentialist dark quality to it which I can't explain but I like its mysterioso. Before, songs like this made me want to embrace Visions of Johanna and Camus.

  • @CurtisMateer

Hey Pete, the "stops" sound a bit broadwayish to me now that I listen to them, and that's ok I have come to accept this influence haha :o) But you are right there is also a strong "prog rock" influence in a lot of my songs. But I would also say "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" and "Visions of Johanna" left as strong an impression on me as anything else. Thanks for the great comment Pete. Talk to you later. -Ron

  • Great song on a tough subject Ron.

I like the accompaniment running up and down in places too.

    Dave

  • @dholeton Hey Dave, thanks. You know from playing your dulcimer that drones really help a song along. I use open tunings a lot on my guitar for the same effect, moving up and down the neck more easily. Thanks for you nice comment Dave. -Ron

  • I won't get tired of saying this again and again Ron, your originals are so great! I love the tune and you sung this so great!

  • @shandy3791 Hello Yvonne. Thanks for your very nice comment. I am always glad to hear from you. Have a wonderful week coming up. -Ron

  • Great original song Ron! I like the open tuned guitar and what you are doing with the chord changes. Very catchy!

    Amy

  • @amccann7 Hi Amy. This tuning is a very odd one but it helped me do the little riffing there. All is fair in love, war and guitar playing :o) Thanks Amy. -Ron

  • @rhopen Like the other commenters I like the smooth delivery and yet tight arrangement. It all works well. It is the tuning that gets my attention the most. Sounds major, low and rumbly. I'm guessing B. Are you willing to share it.

    Aloha from Hawaii,

    Thomas

  • Extremely well crafted Ron. You sure know the guitar...fantastic chording to compliment those wonderful lyrics. I also like how you mix up the strum patterns...how you make the instrument "talk" as if it is singing harmony....you are a very good songwriter Ron with a lot of class in the songs. I really enjoyed this. Thank you.

  • @PatrickGMoran Hi Pat, sorry for the slow response but I've been pretty tied up with work the past week or so. Thanks for you comments. I use open tunings often so I can add some riffs to help the song along, especially since my guitar skills are less than great. Much thanks to you. -Ron

  • Hey Ron, one more time excellent music, and I haven't words enough to say what I think. It is great, great, great!!!

    A very good time

    Michael

  • @talesandtunes Hi Michael, and thanks for you very good words. I appreciate them very much. -Ron

  • Very good !! You are a amazing singer /songwriter !! Thanx Jane for the share

  • wowo !! awzsome song and singer!!!!!

  • @cogermax91 Hi Marie-Alix, thank you very very much :o) -Ron

  • hi Ron. something different from a different kind of guy. the song works well on every level. i very much like the guitar style. it is not complicated, but it has an almost hypnotic, subtle, drive that really compliments the lyric and the feel of the message. i very much like the sounds of the last two chimnes and the final guitar chord. this one's a keeper friend, chuck.

  • You are masterful writer and performer Ron, I always enjoy so much listening to your originals. Hugs, Alec

  • Hi Ron, your lyrics are always thought provoking, and really lovely guitar playing here. Just great and I enjoyed it very much. 8o)

  • @ImOfTheWoods Thank you very much Sylvia. Loved the Marty Robbins cover you did. -Ron

  • Hi again! Ron...I only wrote to you three times so far and already your writing songs about me! :)) Na, only kidding around! :)) Hope this song isn't meant for me. :)

  • @carolsmusic2 Hello Lynn, haha... no, this song is about a type of person but not a specific person, and certainly not about nice folks like yourself. Thanks for you kind comments. I really appreciate them. -Ron

  • @rhopen Hello again dear Ron! Whee.... am sure glad you understood that joke of mine. lol Thx for writing! Have a good time and keep on rock'in! :)) Carol upps...Lynn

  • Grand song, Ron. I think it's fine that your songs aren't all love songs. Emmylou Harris once said she didn't like a song unless it made her feel sad and wanna cry. Something about a sad song gets inside of us and helps us deal with those strong negative emotions. You've written and sung this one beautifully.

  • Nice song, Ron.

Great guitar work, lyric and vocal.

    Glad Jane sent me this!

    Mike

  • Great song!

  • Very nice !

  • great sound...bold chord choices work so well.

  • ying: Gosh how embarrassing, I think it might be yin (I'm not good with Chinese philosophy). A beautiful contrast of course is what I meant.

  • The dark yang to the ying of other originals by you Ron and a satisfactory feeling it is to experience this as well.

What sort of bass is that in the background? I just bought one which actually looks similar to that one but it's a 5 string.

  • @CurtisMateer Hey Pete, that is an Ibanez short scale bass I bought a few years back. I use it a lot, very nice to play. I have never had a 5 string bass but I did play one once that a friend had. It was also an Ibanez so maybe you have a similar one. Thanks for the comments Pete, talk again soon. -Ron

  • Beautiful! :-) Thumbs Up!!!!

  • Just a great song Ron and one that we can all relate to ..Good stuff for sure : )

    Rocket

  • Popped in tonight:) . It does have a Yes feel to it!! The guitar is ringing so beautifully in this...sound is awesome!! You are becoming the king of song writers on here!!!

  • Very nice tune, Ron. The bridge and ending were exemplary.

I can't help but wonder what it would sound like on a different instrument. In the chorus especially I hear something more subtle (xylophone? chimes?) striking the lead notes, allowing the vocals to be more in command.

I'm almost getting "Strawberry Fields" type feeling, where the guitar was used in the demo but made a sparing appearance in the final production.

  • dont stop Ron, im always curious at your songs..well done!!!! Like nancy you seem to write one song after another...

Im also curious at the special guitar thats in the background...could you tell me what it is? (i mean the thing that is standing Before my beloved dulcimer..hahaha)

    waiting fo another song

  • really a fantastic song ! I am impressed ! Thank you Jane for the share ! Karen :-))

  • @karenmuenchen Hi Karen, and thank you very much for stopping by. -Ron

  • Wow, this is great! I love it! It reminds me a lot of the band YES, and I love YES! TU!

  • @greggfla Thanks very much Greg. -Ron

  • really loved this Ron! the more i hear u, the more u sound and put out a presence of the exact smoothness and calmness, sereneness as paul mccartney!...really loved this one! thanks to Jane for the share!

  • @justcallmethelma Hello Thelma, thanks very much to you and thanks to our Jane who is really great :o) -Ron

  • GOODSTUFF

  • Whoot! This is fantastic Ron! Wonderful production! Love the little harmonic on the guitar in the Stop part! You just keep getting better and better!! Bravo!! *****

  • @cameragirlJane Hey there Jane :o) It only took me 6 days to respond, what's the problem? :o) Thanks for all your support Jane, and our little cover is doing very nicely isn't it? :o) -Ron

  • very nice tune Ron, love the lyrcis and chording especially.

  • Nice Song Ron. Bitter subject, Sweet chords...

    :-)

maybe you like our music too?

  • Hello Ron, thank you very much for the sharing your very beautiful song, it's always a pleasure to you listen:)

My best friendships and greetings from France, hugs, Rosy

  • @Roselyne18 Hello Roselyne, and sorry for this slow response. I really appreciate you kind words. I hope you are well. Greetings to you from USA, -Ron

  • How is the guitar tuned ? sounds great man.

  • @dannyknapp Hi Danny, and sorry for the late reply but I've been really tied at with work lately. The tuning here is an odd I made up so I could handle those little riff parts. It is: *BBD#F#A#C# that looks bad with all those sharps, but it if you don't have a keyboard you can do it using the fret method *B 12 4 3 4 3 The bass string is tuned to a very low B. Thanks Danny, and I watched Steve Earle on ACL last night and noticed a strong resemblance to you in look and sound. -Ron

  • Hi Ron, Aways a pleasure hearing a new song from you. This is a great song Ron. Reminds me too of YES, especially the beginning. One my favs. Be well.

    Mark

  • @busywave Hi Mark. Now that you mention Yes, I hear it a bit too in the opening. I was a very big fan of them so the influence is there no doubt. Thanks Mark and I'll be talking to you. -Ron

  • very lovely ron- kudos to u.

    michael

  • @mettanc Hi Michael, and sorry for such a slow response. I suspect the heat is the same for you as it is me here so stay cool and thanks for you comment. -Ron

  • @rhopen hot and dry, and no rain. do a rain dance.

  • your songs don't follow a cookie cutter pattern and that is refreshing Ron, very original stuff, nice job

  • @jugnutgut Much thanks Rob. -Ron

  • Hi Ron, your song impressed me very much. The lyrics make me ponder a lot and I need my dict. now. But it will not tell me what "intrusions" means. I hope you can explain your lyrics to me if you have time.

Very nice greetings from your German friend, -

    Anette

  • @TanteA Hi Anette, I am sorry for such a slow response to you. An "intrusion" is when someone or something comes into you life uninvited and you are forced to pay attention to it. The lyrics here are about someone who is trying to get close to you, but you are suspicious of their motives and don't trust them. I hope you are doing well this Summer Anette :o) Greetings to you from USA. -Ron

  • I really like this one. It has a wicked dynamic.

  • @scratchingcat Hi Ute, thank you and it does have a rather stern dynamic I think, but it isn't really hateful.. I hope not anyway :o) -Ron

  • love the guitar!! Really nice job.

  • @64thistles Hey there Thistle, sorry for the late response here, been busy with work. That is an Ibanez Talman guitar I haver there, a nice cheap acoustic/electric and easy to play... and no I am not on their payroll :o) Talk with you later. -Ron

  • Well crafted song with interesting chord changes. Well performed Ron!

  • @ljped Hello Jack, much thanks to you for you kind comment. -Ron

  • @CharmedQuarkZ99 So true, Richard.

  • Perfect.

  • Great song, Ron.

  • @UncleQuinn Much thanks to UncleQuinn. -Ron

  • What a good song that is. Life makes us afraid to trust and we are suspicious about why people care about us...question their motives if they want to come close. Such good lyrics, beautiful music and lovely voice. Enjoyed it very much! NAncy

  • @nllleonard HI Nancy, thanks very much for the confirmation on this song. I really appreciate your comments always. Regards, -Ron

  • Very nice song, Ron! Your voice isn´t hard at all, and that gives a fine mixture with the (oposite)meaning of the lyrics. Interessting chord changes and voicing. Really good!

    See you, Frank

  • @FrankRMusic Hey Frank, sorry for the slow response, been focused on the job lately. Yes, I didn't want this to be an unpleasant song by sounding angry. It's better to finesse these things. I hope you are doing well and I'll be talking to you again soon. -Ron

  • Great job, Ron! As always, superb songwriting, terrific vocal and your guitar work is outstanding!

  • @Johnfern99 Hi John, thanks very much for stopping by. I'll be talking to you. -Ron

  • A very good melody Ron. It`s done in a very light hearted way even though you say it`s not a love song.

  • @MrFolkncountry Thank you very much, I do appreciate your comments. -Ron
