@onewomanandsomesongs It is always great when you pay a visit Janet, anytime. There no "late" on YT the way I see it. Thanks for the great comment. Have a nice Friday and weekend coming up. -Ron
Hey Ron that's superb! I love your way with a lyric and with your music. This has like a McCartney style sound like in his solo years. :) Beautiful easy going rhythmic style. You have a great pop style in this song. I love the simplicty of just a nice acoustic song. You sing great too my buddy and your playing is just great. I should be such an accomplished composer and musican like you,I wish. :) You have a wonderful pleasant sound that's endearing. :)))
@CharmedQuarkZ99 Hello Richard. Sorry for the late response. I've been tied up at work a lot lately. Yea, I hear what you are saying Richard, it is very true. I hope you are handling the heat ok over your way. It is very bad where I am not. Talk to you later. -Ron
Hey Ron, some excellent song-smithing here, very polished. Lyrics are really cohesive / consistent – clever and hip, without cliches; the rhymes are all fresh -really a joy to listen to. Some well-conceived chords and the part I liked best is the guitar work on the chorus, “I’ll see through you” some very interesting harmonies there. They make an impact. –almost like you song’s hook. -And a darn good performance too. Really nice work. Have a great weekend - Karl
@karlmahlmann Hello Karl, since I am not a particularly good guitar player I need to rely on riffs and chord structures to help me get the song across so I really appreciate your observations here. I am looking forward to your next one Karl. Your uploads are now big events here in our circle. -Ron
At 1:46 the run of chords are positively avant garde sounding! Like it, bring it back again I reckon (heard you do similar stylistc Yessy changes in earlier posts you ol' progster!) and the part where you say "stop" is fabulous too. The WAY you say it combined with the musical stops, besides being onomatapoeaic (musically?) has an almost existentialist dark quality to it which I can't explain but I like its mysterioso. Before, songs like this made me want to embrace Visions of Johanna and Camus.
Hey Pete, the "stops" sound a bit broadwayish to me now that I listen to them, and that's ok I have come to accept this influence haha :o) But you are right there is also a strong "prog rock" influence in a lot of my songs. But I would also say "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" and "Visions of Johanna" left as strong an impression on me as anything else. Thanks for the great comment Pete. Talk to you later. -Ron
@dholeton Hey Dave, thanks. You know from playing your dulcimer that drones really help a song along. I use open tunings a lot on my guitar for the same effect, moving up and down the neck more easily. Thanks for you nice comment Dave. -Ron
@amccann7 Hi Amy. This tuning is a very odd one but it helped me do the little riffing there. All is fair in love, war and guitar playing :o) Thanks Amy. -Ron
@rhopen Like the other commenters I like the smooth delivery and yet tight arrangement. It all works well. It is the tuning that gets my attention the most. Sounds major, low and rumbly. I'm guessing B. Are you willing to share it.
Extremely well crafted Ron. You sure know the guitar...fantastic chording to compliment those wonderful lyrics. I also like how you mix up the strum patterns...how you make the instrument "talk" as if it is singing harmony....you are a very good songwriter Ron with a lot of class in the songs. I really enjoyed this. Thank you.
@PatrickGMoran Hi Pat, sorry for the slow response but I've been pretty tied up with work the past week or so. Thanks for you comments. I use open tunings often so I can add some riffs to help the song along, especially since my guitar skills are less than great. Much thanks to you. -Ron
hi Ron. something different from a different kind of guy. the song works well on every level. i very much like the guitar style. it is not complicated, but it has an almost hypnotic, subtle, drive that really compliments the lyric and the feel of the message. i very much like the sounds of the last two chimnes and the final guitar chord. this one's a keeper friend, chuck.
Hi again! Ron...I only wrote to you three times so far and already your writing songs about me! :)) Na, only kidding around! :)) Hope this song isn't meant for me. :)
@carolsmusic2 Hello Lynn, haha... no, this song is about a type of person but not a specific person, and certainly not about nice folks like yourself. Thanks for you kind comments. I really appreciate them. -Ron
@rhopen Hello again dear Ron! Whee.... am sure glad you understood that joke of mine. lol Thx for writing! Have a good time and keep on rock'in! :)) Carol upps...Lynn
Grand song, Ron. I think it's fine that your songs aren't all love songs. Emmylou Harris once said she didn't like a song unless it made her feel sad and wanna cry. Something about a sad song gets inside of us and helps us deal with those strong negative emotions. You've written and sung this one beautifully.
@CurtisMateer Hey Pete, that is an Ibanez short scale bass I bought a few years back. I use it a lot, very nice to play. I have never had a 5 string bass but I did play one once that a friend had. It was also an Ibanez so maybe you have a similar one. Thanks for the comments Pete, talk again soon. -Ron
Popped in tonight:) . It does have a Yes feel to it!! The guitar is ringing so beautifully in this...sound is awesome!! You are becoming the king of song writers on here!!!
Very nice tune, Ron. The bridge and ending were exemplary.
I can't help but wonder what it would sound like on a different instrument. In the chorus especially I hear something more subtle (xylophone? chimes?) striking the lead notes, allowing the vocals to be more in command.
I'm almost getting "Strawberry Fields" type feeling, where the guitar was used in the demo but made a sparing appearance in the final production.
