  • Segal was very cute when he was......young.

  • The story might be fictional but the personalities are very real. They exist in each and every one of us in some degree.

  • so much like carnage

  • Martha is a cunt!!!

  • Whoa!! Liz was a hell of an actor!! And she was very pretty! And im a girl :) RIP Liz xxx

  • Oh, 4got - nmntd 4 B. Screenplay (Ernest Lehman), also ROBBED of Oscar. Some of the smartest, most witty, cleverly sarcastic, profound & disturbing writing evr done in film hx. MY Best Film of 1966. ALWAYS ranked in AFI Top 100 Films of All-Time. Should've swept awards bt "Man 4 All Seasons" ws cherry-picked choice tht year 2 sweep. Didn't come close 2 Nichol's film - of course, imo. Elden, fuck off. Do u need a dictionary, dear boy?!

  • RichardElden: O-stnding 1966 film won Oscars inc., B. Actress, B. Supporting Actress, B. Cinematography, & B. S-Play. Nmntd 4 B. Picture (should've won bt "Man for All Seasons" got it), B. Director (M. Nichols), Best Actor (Richard Burton, playng role of career, ROBBED of Oscar), B. Supp. Actor, & B. Orig'l. Score. Landmark film w/ l-mark prfrmncs & writing. Elden, jst return 2 ur x-box 360 or "Rocky" movies & you'll be ok..

  • @3244gorilla A Man for All Seasons was far better than this boring, badly acted crap.

  • He is so freaking sharp! Sexyest scene

  • When i first saw that scene of him shooting elizabeth i thought i was having a heartattack. That was thaw best scene ever in a movie

  • We have to study this book for English, & I love it! Such humour, iin such a dark & twisted way. Plus every character, including Honey, is so unique & interesting.

And it may be hard to believe but this is the first black & white film I've ever seen. I really like it, which surprises me!

  • richard burton is beautiful.

  • Lol, Liz tried her best to look as unattractive as possible in this and she's still gorgeous.

  • Liz really is gangsta in this scene the way she handles that ciggarette, flirts with the guy and talks down to her husband.

  • hey, both Liz and him are playing you all.... you dumb assholes when she says shut up it the beginning of very complicated relationship. you are so pathetic to think you know liz and any relationship. ever. you dumb young assholes will never get it

  • "Yes, he has a very firm body."

  • It ripped the optimism right off the veneer of my cocktail table.

  • @RichardElden Whats your deal? Why do you hate burton and taylor so much. You're a ugly piece of retard crap anyways. Your opinions are meaningless.

  • @RichardElden Well one could argue that the accent of both Liz and Richard make sense in the context of the movie, considering how much these two fake stuff, why wouldn't they fake their accents to appear to be something they're not?

  • @RichardElden Its hardly a terrible performance just because he has an accent. Thats just one little detail and its not like the accent sounded bad.

  • @RichardElden Doesn't Richard Burton have an English accent naturally?

  • @Caitlin232323

    He was Welsh.

  • @GypsyFairy85 Oh, well either way

  • oh god! i thought he'll gonna shoot her-i was terrified...but hey that was funny hahaha XD

  • When I saw this movie maybe I missed it but I what is Nick's wife's name? Did they ever say?

  • "SHUDDUP !"

  • elizabeth's eyes at 5:31 was enough to win her 2nd oscar:-)

  • This is so funny. I thought he was really gonna shoot her,

  • @RichardElden Bitter mean little asshole aren't ya ?

  • This is so brilliantly acted and directed. Taylor is great.

  • my all time favorite move..I have all the lines memorized

  • 2:53 Liz is so GANGSTA when she says, "SHUT UP", and she is working the hell outta that cigarette!

  • @LuKasAV6 I love it, Liz was Gangsta before the word Gangsta was created ♥

  • The near "birdie" (i.e. the middle finger), is awesome.

  • Major actresses like Bette Davis, Roz Russell, and Patricia Neal all coveted the role of Martha thinking that a veteran actress would star. Imagine the shock when Jack Warner offered Elizabeth Taylor at age 32 and beautiful beyond measure the greatest role of her career. Great casting. Great actress, Great Cast, Great Movie.

  • 2:52 haha

  • je suis complètement dans ce film ces jours ci......c'est trop génial.

  • R.I.P Elizabeth, you are and inspiration.

  • R I P MRS TAYLOR 1932- 2011

  • What talent this was! Burton and Taylor--such talent! You never see movies like this anymore. stories with meaning and great writing. Everything is some third rate formula movie, again and again.

  • Edward Albee was in very good hands with these three: Burton, Taylor & Nichols (RIP Liz)

  • rip martha

    and taylor x

  • Wow, she's being a total bitch. Amazing. Ooooo. Wow. She must've studied acting for centuries to be an annoying arrogant bitch. The refined nature of her bitchcraft is so exquisite! My god this explains why we saw her in the tabloids every day for 40 years. She's such an absolute gift to Western thought and culture.

  • "Yes, he has a very firm body". LOL

  • @jconder45

    Dear JC.,

I like the way the weight is converted to Kilos.

    .

Just in case the viewer would be distracted from the movie by working-out the usa measurement.

    .

    .

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • Taylor's command of her voice throughout this play is amazing.

  • They're not fighting, they are just having a conversation; well 'that's what they think." Alcoholics are like that, everything is a bit raw, they just don't think that that is a problem. . When things aren't 'raw' and the combatants aren't 'conversing' the alcoholic by contrast with the normal or neurotic type, 'thinks nothing is happening', you know, like, a book with all-blank pages. . The silence lets swell-up a memory trace of personal annhilation. . . Cheers. from, del-boy.
  • RIP, elizabeth

  • this scene scared the crap out of me when i first saw it

  • I see that people are using phrases such as "funny" and "hilarious". Was this film supposed to humour us. Should we be laughing as these sad, lonely characters. These people have literally killed themselves and their relationship throughout the movie but seem to come out stronger in the end.

    Is that normal?

  • @Hi8380

Sorry we didn't all get all sad and shit. Not everyone interprets a movie the same as you, you whiny cunt. Go clean your pussy.

  • @joshjcksn horse your horses arse wipe. I was asking a question and wanted to have an open conversation about it did you not read it properly you illiterate fuck

just mugged u off BIG TIME HAHAHHA

  • @Hi8380

no you were clearly getting all bitchy because people found it hilarious and not sad. god forbid someone didn't interpret it as you felt like it should be you twat

  • @joshjcksn like i said, i was open for a convo on it

    fuck off pal

  • @joshjcksn

you could be life-banned from you-tube participation because of your foul language !

  • i find it hilarious how martha keeps saying "Ya Hear that george??"

  • two of the most amazing performances of all time.

  • Look at George Segal's expression between 3;43 and 3:49, a mixture of attraction and revulsion.

  • @elainebmack Yes that's true. I never noticed it; he thinks she's attractive and she would of course ''come in handy'' to make it up the university ladder, but yet he doesn't like the way she acts -drunk, vulgar, loud and aggressive- at all.

  • well Martha, your sunday chaple dress. Sarcastic Burn.

  • hey swamp, hey swampy!

  • ....lonely for the soft purr of your little voice...ha ha ha

  • LOL! 3:26 Pretty sure that's the bird! I had to rewind it 20 times when I first saw this movie!

  • i love this film. genius acting all around.

  • An amazing film; a film I have never tired of, the script the actors a classic!

  • one of the best movie scenes ever I love this movie, I remember when I first discovered it, I would get drunk and just hit rewind over and over through out the movie

  • Omg when i first watched this film i actually thought he was going to kill her with that gun. Sandy dennis can sure scream!!!! lol

  • "Yes, he has a very firm body", LOL!

  • is that a pic of hart crane or, uh, hmm?

  • I read the play and watched the movie and I was never so satisfied with a film adapted from a book/stage play. Everyone should read it, Albee is a genius!

  • I love this movie!

  • Shut Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it

  • I've never seen the already formidable Burton and Taylor act so well. They were obviously given great material here. Rarely do actors set the bar so high.

  • you wonder what conversations they had in thier own marriages,I love it when she says "Shut up" brillant

  • Lol,at 2:55,best "SHUT UP" in movie history!

  • I think it is completely unfair how Elizabeth Taylor still looked AMAZINGLY gorgeous when she gained 30 pounds and had a whole team of people working to make her ugly.

  • Elizabeth Taylor set the standards for what is takes to have that lasting star power. Always late for movies, first to make a million, threw tantrums, glamour queen, larger-than-life celebrity, loves animals, humanitarian ... enough said. She made it, while others are long forgotten, and shes still in the public eye to tell about it. Shes 77 and in a wheel chair now, when shes gone, there will never be another like her.

  • very well said shes just one of a kind i wish she was up yo making one last film maybe

  • @feelgoodaboutit LOL. Throwing tantrums and being a glamour queen does not give you star power. Acting well does.

  • @LAX324 Come on, she hasn't been a serious actress in 35 years. People are more interested in her as a great star, and the glamorous image she projects. In addition, she was the first to take off the gloves in the fight against AIDS, and this was in a time when others would not dare risk their career and go there. Her fragrance sells didn't exactely hurt either.

  • That "SHUT UP" is just so perfectly delivered.

    I love this film.

  • Hi dale1966gto, Sandy Dennis actually died in 1992, of Ovarian Cancer.

Yes Elizabeth Taylor, a fine actress! Originally born in Hampstead, London, but not from a 'blue blood' background. Her Mother was also an actress, her father an art dealer.

  • @HitchcockFan16 - I signed in, just to agree with you. haha. The "shut up" is unreal.

  • @HitchcockFan16 couldn't agree with you more, couldn't agree with you more!

  • @HitchcockFan16 "SHADDUP!" through lips holding a cigarette! So perfect!

    I love this film, too.

  • Make no mistake Sharukh11 - George is humiliating Martha as well! He's slowly taking over during the play... in the beginning they're sort of playing a game, in 2nd act Martha is seriously taking over but in 3rd act George is the master. It's his play.. he's both the actor and the director.. and he ends the game so to speak in the end when he chooses to kill their son..

It's funny - there more times I read this play the more sad I find it

  • why of course, I make track of that with other vids :P

  • @Folkmann You know It's kind of my fault for reading the comments but I just wanted to watch a clip from this movie to see if I liked it before I go out and watch it from beginning to end but I guess now there's no point to doing that now that I know George kills their son. I mean why did you have to go into all those details? Didn't it ever occur to you that there might be someone who hasn't seen the film yet watching this clip and you just completely ruined the film for them?

  • @TheGreatZurEnRaah As you said: it's your own fault- don't read the comments if the ending is all that you think there is to this film! : we were having a discussion about the entire film and if you think my comment ruins your entire experience of this masterpiece, then please, don't watch it. Your mistake. It's not just the end this is about and btw George doesn't "kill" their son literary.. it's a metaphor, and there's so much more into this play than just the ending. I haven't ruined anythin

  • @Folkmann WOW!!!! Somebody was just waiting for the opportunity to flex their ego and desperately display how intellectual they are today weren't they? Take it easy their gunpowder I was just making a point, there's no need to go all Theatre 101 on me. I'm an Actor I don't need you to tell me about the "epic" themes that are expressed in this film. Smoke a joint, shoot some smack, have a drink, do whatever you have to to calm down before you become convinced that what you're saying is important

  • @TheGreatZurEnRaah I didn't mean it too be that ego-ish! Or show of my intellectuality (if I should posses any!) Just don't do the "ooh you ruined the entire film for me" on me ... just don't read the comments, I'm sorry, that's the way it is, it's youtube, and I'm sorry if you think I ruined something for someone. But I honestly don't care what you think about me or my comments - I've had a crappy day.

  • @Folkmann It's cool I didn't mean for it to turn into this big thing either. I've had a bad week myself so It's more than likely that I'm being overly sensitive about the whole issue. I really don't feel you've ruined the film for me that statement was a bit over the top for lack of a better term I'm still going to go out and get it and watch it as if I've never read your comment. I apologize if I seemed smug or rude that wasn't my intention. Hope you have a better day tomorrow, take care.

  • @TheGreatZurEnRaah I'm so sorry too! My fault! You really should - it's a nice film! Hope your week will turn out better!

  • @Folkmann Dare we say...the whole play is a boxing match?

  • @Moflo Do we dare - oh yeah a boxing match it is!

  • BRILLANT

  • there will be no other liz taylor

  • jesus

  • There just isn't this quality of acting found in most of today's Hollywood demigods.

  • I agree that the screenplay sizzled with incredible dialogue ranging from light repartee to bitter sarcasm borne of a marriage in which both partners were co-dependent: they hated each other's weaknesses but were too weak to end it, and, in a twisted way, they 'enjoyed' the rituals of their bickering lifestyle.

there is a lot of evidence that Burton and Taylor were playing themselves in this movie.

And they don't write such wonderful lines based on multi-layered characters anymore.

  • ''Windshield wipers on my eyes because I married you'' epic.

  • meryl streep is the only one that comes close. she may not be able to fill bette davis' shoes, but comes close. liz taylor just had heart surgery to repair a leaky valve. she too is a world class actress. she really doesn't perform any more. she was crippled early in her career by drug and alcohol addiction and never really recovered. richard burton fought alcolism for years and never recovered. both of them the best shakespearean actor/actress the world had to offer.

  • Don't forget Ms. Dennis!

She absolutely OWNED the role of Honey. She's so weird! I love her!

  • poor sandy. didn't she star with jack lemmon in ''the out of towners''.

she died somewhere in the 70's i think. do you know what killed her.

this movie is dark, but an excellent study in acting. liz and richard were such born english actors that it came so natural to them. many didn't know that liz taylor was english. she came from english aristocracy....bluebloods, they used to call them. it's a shame she is almost crippled today from hip arthritis and confined largely to a wheelcchair.

  • I don't get the ''joke'' about the bergin. The story George tells to Nick about ''the grandest day of my youth''; the boy who had killed his mother (George) orders bergin and everybody starts to laugh. Why is this? I can't find the name ''bergin'' on the internet, does the boy mean ''bourbon''?

  • INTENSE

  • this scene was awesome. burton was amazing

  • taylor was amazing.

  • liz taylor's face at 5:33 is flawless. for that she already deserved the oscar.

  • Incredible as this may see, Benny Hill did a wonderful spoof of this in which he played both parts and did a superb Burton voice.

For some light relief, look up 'Benny Hill spoof Richard Burton'

  • Shut Up!!!! LOL

  • Everything about this scene is brilliant!

  • A depressing play....but a good one - i don't think the author liked this adaption much.

  • 2:54, "shaddup!" She's brilliant :)

  • I think Taylor was a genius in this movie. Burton was good too. My favorite scenes are the bar dancing scene and this scene where Burton gets the fake gun. Hilarious!

  • @Tigerlily21 they're all geniuses.

  • @Tigerlily21 Elizabeth Taylor

    ...

    Martha Richard Burton

    ...

    George George Segal

    ...

    Nick Sandy Dennis

    ...

    Honey

  • Damn, it was only an umbrella.

  • i agree - taylor gives a genius performance.

  • They are a crazy ass couple. I would have just got up and left the house if I were a guest.

    Good performance!

  • She gained 30 pounds, and they shot the film in sequence, so you can see the weight creep up. They did nothing to her chin or nose (nose exquisite in profile as usual.) Some padding under the eyes, tho. Basically, she just got fat and neither she or the camerman did anything to disguise it--no flattering shadows and Taylor allows her face to to slack, letting the jawline vanish. A genius performance.

  • In a Liz bio I have, there are before makeup and after pics. She actually had quite a bit of makeup on. They made her look 20 years older.

  • "Why Martha, your Sunday chapel dress?" -"You like it? Good."

  • I agree..Burton rules...best ever.

  • very sexy smoker

  • I fancy her like mad yet also a tiny bit repulsed, yet the former wins! Having been married thirty years I can understand/appreciate the clawing away at each other.

  • this is what happens when humans breed. only cats shall from now on. hear that, pussy.

  • Burton is simply amazing! Why the hell didn't he win the Oscar?

  • Even as a harridan, Liz is incredibly sexy.

  • And that as they say is that !- Richard is fantastic in this movie ..the both of them should have gotten oscars for this movie ! love it! Elizabeth is soooo funny a Martha ...great movie x

  • Richard Burton is a hero!

  • Just try to stay on you feet, there isnt a more sickening sight

  • she flips him off.

  • Great scene!

  • "George here doesn't cotton too much to body talk... paunchy here isn't too happy when the conversation moves to muscle."

  • "George is not preoccupied with history, George is preoccupied with the History Dept. George is preoccupied with the History Dept. because he isn't... George is bogged down in the History Dept. He's an old bog in the History Dept. That's what George is; a bog, a fen, a G-D swamp! Hey swamp, hey Swampy!"

  • "Ha Ha Ha Ha You Bastard..........."

  • This is my favourite scene in the film.

  • this movie is damn hilarious taylor is a beast she rocks gotta love ole' swampy

  • Why, Martha, your Sunday chapel dress!

  • this is the shit...

  • Watching this (again times 20) one can't but regret the state of cinema in America today. Look at Jay Leno. In Carson's day, opera singers regularly appeared, even hosted (ie. the late Beverley Sills). The audience was assumed to know something about culture. Now, it is all geared to the teens and early twenties. Dumbing down.

  • michaels7, I would definitely agree with you on that!

    JM

  • My GOD!My grandparents, who raised me looked like them, spoke like them, acted like them and treated each other like dirt but with love.

  • My sympathies! LOL

  • i wish that cig was a non filter. i crave it so much

  • i want to watch the whole movie. please. thanks 4 posting this much.

  • Lol "HEY SWAMPY!" I loved this, but it was even better seeing it in Manchester Apollo!

  • my cock exploded at 2.42. i crave her smoking so much

  • What do you mean your cock exploded???

  • When you look at Liz closely, you can see her makeup is designed specifically for black and white cinematography. They must have looked ready for Halloween in color!

  • She also had prosthetics, to change the shape of her face (nose, chin, etc.) to make her look older and less attractive. It was an incredible thing to do / agree to.

  • Yeah, why did your cock explode?Come on tell us waffen2...come on SWAMPY!

  • This is a great idea to put these clips up. I have a new interest in the ART of film-making. I love this.

  • excellent

  • Hey err, George; tell'em about the boxing match WE had.

I love the way she tilts her head to one side and with the corner of her mouth says this line as she smokes the cigarette in the other corner. She knows the reaction this will provoke from him and thats exactly why she brings up this embarassing moment.

  • I akways thought Ms. Taylor was a terrrible actress , but here she was quite brilliant really brilliant. She deserved the Oscar for this but NOT Butterfield 8...HEY SWAMPY!!! LOVE IT!!!

  • I couldn't agree with you more. I COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MOOORREEE. Love it when she flips him off.

  • she got an oscar for this too .)

  • Yeah, I think she's good at playing a drunk- she deserved the Oscar but what about poor Richard Burton? Don't think he got enough recognition for his GENIUS acting in this.
