this makes me so homesick.. We need to take our daughter over when it is Tanabata time. she has not been there yet to witness the festivals for herself. thanks for sharing them.
This is very interesting indeed. I didn't know there were more festivals including lampion wagons in Japan.
If you ever have the chance go and the Neputa festivals of Aomori-ken in August, a series of events in towns like Goshogawara, Hachinohe, and Hirosaki with locally very different flavors. I promise it will blow you away like no other matsuri you have ever seen.
Just wanted to say that your videos are great. They give a little peak into Japanese culture that is honestly hard for me to find. I hope to one day live in Japan, or at least visit and take in as much as I can. Thanks so much! :)
Thanks for sharing more of this experience! I liked seeing the lights turned on during the evening. The music was very interesting and really added to the intensity of the battle. BTW your new camera rocks! -Kurt :-)

I took part in a festival similar to this during the summer. Pushing those things were hard work, especially when they are three stories tall..

They had ropes that they would grab hold of when they were slipping. Still.....a lot f talent and balance involved!
