  • Your hair is gorgeous. I have hair identical to yours and I'm still trying to find ways to define my curls. I'm going to give this a shot and see what happens. I have all the above product. even olive oil which I will use instead. Thanks again for sharing.

  • @mstryna81 - My pleasure curlfriend -- I am hoping that it works as good for you as it does for me. :) Thanks for watching & sharing.

  • Thanks for the information and speedy reply. I did the" Big Chop" last night myself braided it and this morning it looks ok. Had to do some more trimming. It did not hurt a bit lol. I will send some pictures. I'm 63 and have salt and pepper hair that gray hair fought me but I won!! It's a nice contras. I use to wear a short afro in the day so short hair is not a problem. I think by next month I'll be rocking this hair. Thank you and all my sisters who share and dare to be perm-free.

  • @cloverct - Congrats on your bc! Glad to hear that it was painless, because it definitely should be. I know the deal with those grays, they can be brutal, good job on winning that war too. Glad to hear that my vids were of some help to you as you begin your journey, and thanks for sharing with me.

  • Can you tell me what is co-wash?

  • @cloverct - Sure, it's when you wash your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo. It helps to retain the moisture or add moisture to the hair versus stripping it of moisture with shampoo.

  • That looks great!! but you are not doing a two strand twist , looks like you are doing the three stand twist? is that what I'm seeing? I think for me that will work better thanks for the good information. Loving this here hair God gave us. LOL

  • @cloverct - I'm just doing a simple loose braid here, nothing fancy. Glad to be of help and it's my pleasure to share and help out however I can. Def loving the hair God gave us.

  • Very good information Thanks, and your hair look wonderful !!!

  • What kind of shea butter did you use?

  • love the song and the video...beautiful hair

  • @TokyoRain21 - Thank you, and thanks for watching.

  • You hair is sooo beautiful! and you are such

a pretty woman! go head sista! love black hair!

  • @Ellasings7 - How very nice of you, thank you and have a great day.

  • very good advice for the back braids!

  • @freckleseclipse - Thanks, glad you liked. :)

  • thanks i love your vid and i love ur hair =) =)

  • @jema1ful - Thanks curlfriend, luv u too!

  • 1st question, you do this every evening?

  • @LadyDaysVintage - No, not unless I want super definition. As the definition fades, about every 3-4 days, then I redo. It's totally up to you and your hair.

  • I am so happy we found each other LOL, you are my hair double. Gotta run, but I'm going to sit down and watch all of your video's later this evening. Hope you don't get tired of my questions LOL

  • @LadyDaysVintage - LOL, Welcome to my channel, I'm happy to have found you as well since I am now addicted to couponing. :) I welcome questions.

  • One word Barry!

  • You're pretty! and I love this tutorial!!!

  • Wow, so glad I found your channel! I have learned to work smarter and not harder in my 50+ years and this video has certainly given me just what I need. Thanks 'Curl'friend!

  • @AuntieBrooklyn - I'm so glad to hear that and I know what you mean. thanks for sharing and have a great day!

  • I am so loving this. How long have you been natural.

  • Hi! Love ur hair! I've always been natural but I've battled with moisture and definition! What is the Infusium product that you use? What was the name of that Hawaiin oil? Thanks!!

  • Do you have to be mixed to have your hair like this?

Im 13 years old, and I have always wanted curly afro.

  • Thanks, I followed your tips and the ends of my hair instantly curled after applying the shea butter. Without it I would roll the ends. Good tip. Can't wait til the morning to see the results.

  • how long did it take your hair to grow?

  • Beautiful hair

  • do you do this every night or every couple of days?

  • @katoeria - If I was bored with nothing to do (or for a special occassion) I would do it every night just for the freshly unbraided sharpness of the look, but in my real work I do it every 2-3 nights depending on how long the definition is lasting. It's not practical for me to do it every night and handle everything else in my life. Thanks for watching. :)

  • I love your hair..What hair color is that at the roots? and what brand?

  • @jerseyzfinest1223 - Thank you curlfriend! It's actually Henna, not a color. This is how it looks on my gray hair and as you can see, I have a lot. Pretty funny huh! :)

  • I wish i seen this video before relaxing my hair after 18months but i will be trying this techinque on my daughter's hair tonite:)

  • I really like this video. Informative and straight to the point!

  • Your hair is sooo pretty, I love it,thanx for posting.

  • That came out great, thank you for this I will be trying on me and my girls

  • Thank you! I just spent so much money on natural hair products- only to be left wet & gooey! Your video was professional and had substance!! Thanks..

Love the old school infusiam 23!!

  • You and your hair are beautiful! Thanks for sharing...I'm going to try it this weekend.

  • Thanks for the video! This will definitely help me along my hair journey!I remember my mom doing my hair like that when i was younger lol.

  • @ashley1brat - My pleasure, glad to help anyway I can, and thanks for watching. :)

  • lol i love you . .

  • @BritneyGiggles - Luv U 2 Curlfriend, and thanks for watching. :)

  • gorgeous!

  • @yanitla1687 - Thank you curlfriend! :)

  • LOL AT THE MUSIC

  • @TheSmooveCriminal lmao i know

  • You look so cute. I lked the tutorial. thanks!:)

  • @97bootygirl - Thank you curlfriend, how nice of you to say and I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the video. Have a happy Monday. :)

  • I love your hair!

  • @NiaSoPurdy - Thank you curlfriend, and thanks for your support! :)

  • Do u do this every nite?

  • @amberhoneytress - In my perfect world I do this every night, but in my real world I may skip a day or two if the definition is still there.

  • @naturalstronghair I hear u! Your hair looks very nice, thanks for the tips!

  • yes mam! your hair turned out fantastic. and i love the fact that you use minimal products. save that $. thanks for sharing.

  • this is what i kinda do too, i wet hair, put conditioner then apply my shea butter mixture (olive oil n coconut oil) braid or twist hair n it comes out beautiful, n makes my hair feels soft n moistuzire for the first time ya, !!!! loving it!!!!

  • Your hair looks very soft naturally. This wouldn't work for me, but amazing video. Good luck!

  • I loved your video, I now have an idea of what to do. thanks so much and as the other people have mentioned you don't have to apologize for anything.

    you look amazing.

  • Your hair came out very nicely. Do you ever have trouble with frizz? If so, how do you control it. I can take down my braids to get similar results but on rainy and humid days. Even if it not that moist outside; humidity inside like in old building lower levels built with cinder block walls can be very humid and ruin my hair even amazingly enough in a natural curl state/style. Maybe I will make a video and link it someday for a visual of my dilemma.

  • @j2cool2 - Thank you. I don't really have too many frizz issues because of the weather out here, but using my olive oil eco styler gel seems to help whenever I think there may be a possibility of frizz. It definitely helps the definition lock in better and last longer too so that is something that I have added since this vid. Hope that helps a little. The only other suggestion would be an updo in very humid situations. Would love to see a visual someday. :)

  • Girl, I am late getting in on your videos. i just found you on YOUTUBE and I'm so excited. Your hair looks similar to mine but you have lovely length, which is something I'm working at. But I'm going to try your method and see if I can coax a cute pattern into my kinky/curly hair. Thanks for sharing. I have a Fotki page but I will come back and tell you my result and give my Fotki page then so you can see how your invention helped your curly sista.

  • What brand fo shea butter did you use?

  • @VeeVee2035 - I don't have anymore of the one in the video so I don't remember what brand it was but the one I currently use is by RA Cosmetics (Gold Colored one) and I just get it at my local beauty supply.

  • Oh, my goodness!!! I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I WILL BE adopting your style. Back in high school (1977) I used Ms. Cool 5 minute hair setting lotion and and braided and ROLLED my hair on sponge rollers and the result was a nice curly afro. I will be trying your method in the morning. Thanks and God bless!!

  • Oh my you have beautiful hair! The length, texture, and how thick it is...love it!

  • Love this style, loogs great on you. !!! :-)

  • Beautiful mature natural (40+).. I also am subbing..

  • i think your awesome. such a beauty! love your hair and great video!

  • Gorgeous!! I am not sure this would work on all hair types, your hair texture is very soft very like my daughter (who is 5), I love your hair. you look beautiful with the flower and pink outfit. I too am a UK mature natural (40+) will sub to you xx

  • You're beautiful :) Your hair looks awesome! I just chopped my hair last week and I'm in a serious learning curve right now! So far the most expensive product I've bought is the Shea Moisture Smoothie (9.99 at Walgreens) It smells nice but I don't notice too much difference between that and the Cantu shea butter leave in conditioner (less than 5 bucks at WalMart) I hope to learn more and more. I have NO idea what "protective styles" are! I'll have to look up more videos on youtube :)

  • i like your style you took it back to old school and have good results. i be telling my co-worker we don't have to buy all those new products. i enjoy your video.

  • How adorable. love that hair accent. you hair looks great

  • Just found this vid & I am so excited! I'm going to do this to night & will report my results.

  • wow omg thx u!

  • Comment removed

  • I know this is old but your hair is beautiful.

  • your hair is fly

  • thanks for that video!

  • i dont know how but i started dancing in sync with the song on dis video lol

  • your braid out is gorgeous! .... loving the Barry!

  • Great video. I want to try this now that my hair has gotten longer :) Next month will be my 1 yr naturalanniversary! Would you recommend doing this style to hair that has already been in a twist out or do you think the definition would be the same coming off a maybe 2 day wash n go.

  • thank you

  • I absolutely love your hair!!! I have been natural for a few years and I am a product junkie. After watching your vid yesterday I washed my hair and tried your method. OMG!!! I love it. I have tried braidouts and twistouts and I always ended up pulling my hair into a puff because my hair would look puffy and undefined. I even braided the one Braid to the front and I parted my hair exactly like yours. Agian thank you so much and i will be subbing:)

  • Gawjus I must shot you out soon I been stalking your videos all morning

  • Where have you been my entire natural life (of 2 months!!!) Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to more : )

  • i will try this. Thank you so much!!!!!!

  • Thank you. I will try your method.

  • GREAT VIDEO MY LADY! BEAUTIFUL RESULTS AND YOUR VIDEO SHOWS ME THAT I DON'T NEED TO GO OUT AND BUY ALL THESE PRODUCTS... I JUST BEGAN T TRANSITION AND I'VE ALREADY SPENT MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY ON PRODUCTS. AND HAVE A LIST OF OTHER PRODUCTS I FELT I NEEDED TO BUY. I WAS HOPING THAT I WOULD FIND A WAY NOT TO USE SO MUCH GEL AND OTHERS PRODUCTS IN MY HAIR... THANK YOU:)

  • I have still have my Amla and once before did use it, did you notice that it is a treatment oil that should be washed off after a couple of hours? It's quite a strong oil.

  • how do you know what hair type you have

  • I just love your method and I am going to try it myself. I is simple and at the same time affective. Thanks for the video. You have open my eyes to possibilities on how to do my own hair. I have been transitions for 3 years but still can't get a grip on how to do my hair effectively.

  • Ooooooh my Goood you look JUST like my mom!!

  • your hair is lovely i know that the video is kind of old but i love it. what did you use to get your hair to grow

  • @MsSOULFULL - Thanks curlfriend. I did my kimmaytube challenge using her leave in conditioner for 6 months along with protective styles, minimal manipulation, regular washings and pretty much no heat. That's just the basic overview of what I did and it seemed to boost my growth by retaining the length. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching. :)

  • Beautiful hair, beautiful SKIN - stop apologising ;)))

great vid, very helpful, am all that woman you hope to have help, ie. wet product filled morning hair, mothering a just turned 4 and a 1yr old daughters.

    thanking you... Happy Easter

  • @MsEss2011 - Thank you, for your support and for taking the time to watch & comment. It is appreciated. :)

  • @naturalstronghair most welcome, at the end when you had the flower slide in your hair, you so much looked so familiar as to an actress in a film I must have watched, I just could not put my finger on it, still trying to recollect...... :)

  • Very helpful. Thanks for posting.

  • I absolutely love your method

  • this was really helpful! thanks!

  • Yayy thank you so much for this because I to am on a budget and your hair looks great!

  • the hair at your root is that your natural hair color

  • You've described and demonstrated your technique very well! I will definitely try this really soon! Thanks!

  • I figured you were ole school that's why i was surprised to hear the intro music to this video-It sounded sooo not you.

  • Simply B-U-T-FULL. and you are an absolutely gorgeous women. Very well done!!!

  • ur a life saver

  • Beautiful results. I really took a lot from this video. I'm still learning to leave well enough alone when it comes to twist outs. My hair is very "moody" and in the mornings, she does NOT behave. I usually end up wearing a puff but you've shown some great techniques. Notes taken! Thanks!

  • After you wash hair, what's your procedure to get this style? Do you braid wet hair, damp hair, air-dried hair, blow-dried hair, etc? This is very important info for those of us who would like to try this. Thanks so much for this info. When your video started, I couldn't tell it was a braid-out, and I like that. I thought it was a wash-n-go and I clicked b/c I was wondering how you go such great curl definition. Thanks!

  • Wow, thank you for the great instructional video!! I can't wait to try it, I honestly didn't know we could naturally do these things with our hair, and you look so pretty at the end with the flower in your hair. Thanks again!

  • Cant believe i just found u Girlie! Of course after watchin this vid, i just haaaad to sub :*)

  • Looks great!!

  • this is awesome thank you for this video because i sure didnt want to spend alot of money on products

  • love it

  • Beautiful....I love it...I've only been natural for 7mths now and this really gave me a good idea for another transition style...it may not be as curly at the ends cause I still have relaxer, but Imma try my pillow rollers...Thanks for the video.

  • Nice. Do U braid it every night? Do U have Henna in yr hair?

  • IM LATE. LET ME FIRST SAY THAT YOU ARE STUNNING!!! AND I LOVE YOUR HAIR. I ONLY TRANSITIONED FOR 2 MONTHS AND THEN JUST SPORTED THE SCALP.

;- ) MY QUESTION IS, I HAVE 6 MONTHS OF GROWTH. SHOULD I JUST MAKE SMALLER SECTIONS FOR MY BRAIDS. IM TIRED OF "WET HEAD." ITS COLD. THANK YOU IN ADVICE FOR ANY ADVICE YOU CAN OFFER.

  • what's your hair type?

  • great, because I'm better at braiding than twists

  • This video helped me a lot !

  • wat type of hair would u say u hav? plz respond...

  • @007ticky - I'm not really sure about hair types but if I had to make a guess I would say 3a mid-back to the neck line, 4a top and sides and 4b in the crown area.

  • loved the video thanks alot, i love that there was no shrinkage!!!

  • I Love watching natural videos about tutorials and products reviews but I think I apperciate yours the most because it just takes us back to the basics We get so caught up in this and that becusae of the name and truthfully its not even that deep!!! LOL. Thanks for the video!!! God Bless!!!

  • LOVE this video. AND THE MUSIC! BUT... I've been looking for a way to define my curls with out all that gel. Going to try this this week end. I have my hair in like 10 cornrows now from my wash on this past Sunday. Haven't left my house, so no need to take them down. But yeah...LOL... And is your hair color at the roots natural? That is SOOOO pretty.

  • this is more so a braid out than defining your curls ... but it's still cute !

  • @blackbeautyoftheyear - Thanks... I guess you could look at it that way too, but either way you slice it, it's all boils down to curl definition via different methods.

  • You and your hair are absolutely adorable

  • @msanjanetta - Thank you, you are very kind.

  • i used to do this in the begging!! it really works!

  • @tyronerodriguezuno - I think so too. This was early on in my journey as well.

  • After you braid your hair do you wrap it in a satin scarf or sleep bonnet?

  • @tuggles42 - Oh yes, I always sleep with a satin bonnet, it's like my american express card, I don't go to sleep without it! :)

  • @tuggles42 - How long does it take to remove the braids and style your hair in the am? I was natural about 5 years ago but never had the right products, suffered quite a bit of shedding and found the results in the am disappointing. What shampoo do you use? The middle braid down the front is a great idea.

  • @tuggles42 - what shampoo do you use and how long does it take you to take down the braids and style in the a.m. I have natural hair but I never was able to style it so I've been wearing weaves for 5 years. I'm thinking of going back to my own hair. I like the braid down the front, your hair isn't frizzy at all.

  • @tuggles42 - what shampoo do you use and how long does it take you to take down the braids and style in the a.m. I have natural hair but I never was able to style it so I've been wearing weaves for 5 years. • @tuggles42 - I use the Creme of Nature shampoo in the orange bottle with the yellow writing on it. The take down process is about 10-20 mins depending on how fast I'm moving in the morn. The middle braid really helps with the part and the volume in the middle. I hope you start wearing your hair so that you can find out what your hair likes and establish a routine that will allow you to enjoy your own hair. :)

  • Loved it!!! I like the fact that you are not dripping water nor product in the morning. Your hair looks good and healthy, and you seem to have it under control. I'm 10 months post relaxer, so still transitioning and will probably continue to transition for another year or so, but what a great idea!!! Thanks!!!

  • @spicedmama - Thank you. Yes the dripping thing is not what's up in the morning. Plus in the winter months it's just too cold. Congrats on the 10 mos, I bc'd after 14 months. Have a good day and thanks for commenting. :)

  • @cherrylovexx - Thank you so much. I hope it works just as well for you too!

  • I'm so glad I click on this video! Your hair is beautiful.

  • @shifragri - Thank you, I am glad to know that it is still helpful. I appreciate the comment. Have a great New Year!

  • Great technique, beautiful hair - will give this a go-go. Thanks for sharing!!

  • @yogawaga - My pleasure, I hope your hair likes it as much as mines. Thanks for watching & commenting. :)

  • I will surely be trying this technique; inexpensive and easy. Thank you for sharing!

  • @SacredWombman - Great, I hope that you like it and that it works for you as well as it does for me. Have a great day! :)

  • very pretty =) this is how i do my hair at night too. makes the morning very easy.

  • @vdaniela3 - You are absolutely right, no more cold, messy, wet & long mornings trying to deal with your hair. Just quick, simple and to the point. Thanks for your support and for sharing! :)
