When I first saw Return to Oz, I thought it was awesome. I wasn't scared by the freaky situations; I just felt the heightened sense of danger made the film a lot more suspenseful and immersive than the original. Then again, I saw it at age 9, so I was older and less easy to scare than the kids you were impersonating.
The pink elephants scene is used as filler because the film would be too short without it. Plus the budget for Dumbo was suppose to be low, and animating the pink elephants was probably the cheaper option. (the animation in that scene does look simple and low cost)
You said these things in animation lookback, so what's to wonder?
My sister and i were bored so my sis was surfing her i pod when she went on you tube and u poped up and my sis and i was dieing laughing!!!!!XD!!!!You r hilarious.:-)
How can a group of little boys be interested in attractive women if (for some reason) the movie has barely few female characters? (not counting the blue fairy and the fish) But I digress
I HATE pleasure island and pink elephants! I watched them once and I swore, NEVER AGAIN! They both scared the living SHIT out of me I can't watch either of those movies at all. And it was like 8 years ago I watched them. Thank you Disney for scaring me shitless!
You know, number 5 reminded me on how I thought I was gonna write a follow up to Pinocchio novel which would answer the question...what did happen to Pleasure island?
Number nine doesn't scare me, it disturbs me number eight is so far from the original, kinda freaky. Now seven ,that was freaky. Number six,meh number five,I mean holy crap!
what happened to book first movie second? Pinocchio was a long running newspaper story produced in a series of installments to increase paper sales and was later complied into a book. The movie had to preserve some of the original text. And believe me they left out a lot of scarier shit that Pleasure Island. In the book Pinocchio freaking KILLS Jimminy with a mallet!!! No haha not really dead either, dead as in windshield splat DEAD!
5:44 - "well, what would you expect if somebody told you they went to a world of signing midgets, with a talking scare crow, tin man and lion AND they have to off this witch with a bucket of water so they can get her EYE and give it to some dude controlling a giant head"
lol the pink elephants never freaked me out as a kid. but the wheelers from return to oz scared the crap out of my the frist time i saw it i ran out of the living room
AHEM... As the moon runs HIGH on the dead oak tree as the dead rise UP for the mid-night spree... Also, in the case of the elephants, I think it's their spooky ninexistent eyes that get me and the wicked grin when they make that one elephant out of their heads.
scene #10-yeah thats not for cartoon but it was cartoon made of scary story
scene #9-what were they smokin.....I mean drinkin they are promoting alchohol trough animal toddlers.....btw most of those disney cartoons were made during 1940 so during WWII which can help us think why they had so dark and scary thoughts
I actually laughed at the part when that guy turned into a donkey. I thought it was pretty funny, but I also thought it was pretty cruel for those boys to be turned into donkeys and shipped as slaves.
whenever I went trick-or-treating with my friends we were at this one house and I remebered a jumper screaming at you.So I quoted AniMat by saying what he said about The Headless Horseman.I still screamed when he jumped at us.O and my friend has seen a TON of scary movies and I showed her this and throughout the whole part with Return to Oz I was looking at her and her eyes kept getting wider. She has sworn not to watch it!LOL.Well,we both thought this countdown was cool we stiil quote it a lot:)
I'd replace the elephant thing with Hefalumps and Woozels as they are basically torturing one of the most beloved disney characters ever. Also replace Donald with Ursula, both when she crawls accross the boat to drag Ariel back to the sea and when she grows gigantic. That still scares the crap out of kids.
The Wheelers scared the living crap out of me when I was little. But you are right, The Return of Oz is a really good movie. I think I first saw it when I was six or maybe even a little younger, I rewatched recently, I'm 25 now, and I was surprised to see I actually enjoyed it more NOW then when I was younger.
Pleasure Island...Oh boy...Lets just say 20 years after watching Pinocheo for the first time I STILL don't like watching that movie.
The ending of the "Pink Elephants On Parade" sequence made me feel like I was on drugs. Not that I know what being high is like, but it made me feel out of control and panicked. Is that what an unexperienced person feels like the first time they take acid or whatever?
I know a lot of the people were scared of the pink elephant scene but strange thing is... i never was, even as a small kid. I was just thinking: interesting colors but kinda boring. I'm serious, no joke.
You've gotta be kidding me, maybe all the songs in Sleepy Hollow weren't scary...actually none of them were EXCEPT the last one which you explicitly mentioned wasnt scary.

When you started going on about the hookers, I was drinking a can of sprite. Luckily I turned at the last moment and got the floor, but my nose still hurts. It was worth it though.
Okay this guy may just sound really funny, but he has a really good point with all of these scenes. Especially Return to Oz. I have all of these movies he explained and I find Return to Oz the most scariest scene ever filmed in Disney. Of course, when I was younger, I didn't understand what was up with good ol' Dumbo there with getting drunk and pink elephants. Elephants just scare me: PERIOD! Which is exactly why I forbidded myself to ever set my eyes on Dumbo again. Thx for making a point! Lol
The Horned King is awesome, and is such an underrated villain! He's scary as hell, possibly as evil as Hitler, and has dragons, a "Cauldron-born" army of darkness (pun intended), a badass entrance, and a terrifying close-up.
You left out one of the most disturbing parts of the Pleasure Island scene, when the Coachman rips the clothes from a terrified donkey's back before throwing him into a crate. It's at /watch?v=tgmfV5VLHvs. Yeah, it's kind of pedo all right.

5. I would have saved those kids. I know they were bad but they are still just children. I hope in a Kingdom Hearts game The Coachman would be a boss, and fighting him would definitely be satisfying.
10. I think the build up to the Headless Horseman is bone chilling.
9. You think the animators took something illegal before they animated this part, I think that would enplane this.
8. I never seen that movie, but it looks creepy and awesome at the same time.
7. What's missing form this is Donald writing "All work and no play makes Donald a dull boy." over and over again. And bless you for taking out those vapid teen stars,
am i the only one that finds pink elephants on parade not scary?

6. He is really scary, when he's close up.
