In Hawai'i we are used to call this species "Kona Crab", while in Lombok Island (Indonesia) locals call it "tempenyol" ( in Sasak Language ). I don't know what the scientific name is. But I think this crab is more related to lobster or false lobster than to crabs.

Yes you are right. Its called Curacha.. a type of crab nornally catched in the southern Philippines. Plenty of them in Zamboanga. here in Australia they are also abundant. But they are called Spanner Crab. Contrary, they have less meat.. to many bones.... but taste good

I am not familiar with dungeness crab sorry dafranx so I cannot say which has more meat. Yes have seen coconut crab here in the Philippines on a trip to Aparri town on the northern tip of Luzon island.

Yes you are right. Its called Curacha.. a type of crab nornally catched in the southern Philippines. Plenty of them in Zamboanga. here in Australia they are also abundant. But they are called Spanner Crab. Contrary, they have less meat.. to many bones.... but taste good

I read on Wikipedia that there are Coconut crabs in Taiwan, The Philippines, Indonesia, Christmas Island, Papua New Guinea, and French Polynesia. Coconut crabs have a tasty oil in them, cause they eat a lot of coconuts. The Pacific Islanders eat those kinds of crabs, they boil them.
