Das was man hier stellvertreten von Freisler sieht, ist das Resultat einer Masse, die sich als aufrichtig empfindet und aus dieser Aufrichtigkeit heraus etwas tut, das sie als konsequent und gut empfindet. Roland Freisler starb am 3. Februar 1945 während eines schweren US-amerikanischen Bombenangriffs auf Berlin, als er auf dem Weg zum Keller des Volksgerichtshofs von einem herabstürzenden Holzbalken erschlagen wurde. Bei seinem Tod hielt er noch die Akte des späteren Bundesrichters Fabian von Schlabrendorff in der Hand. Freislers Tod rettete unter anderem Schlabrendorff das Leben.
