  • I can't believe that a King would be called mad for building beautiful castles maybe ahead of his time or eccentric..look at some of the things built today and money spent it's all in the period of time it's built.

  • Horrible music

  • Was this taken on the Rhine River tour?

  • @myway43,

My memory of this 2003 tour is that the Rhine River was early, Ludwig's castle close to the end. I doubt this really helps you. On a tour I don't pay much attention to national maps, since it's specific locations, especially cities, where I turn to local maps.

No. But I highly recommend visiting at least Koblenz to mainz on the Rhein cruise and going to Neuschwanstein as well

  • hes my ancester and im proud cause a genious at his time is considered crazy ,he made that place seem beautiful

  • I think, in the end Bavaria now makes more money with this castle than Ludwig II. spent on it.

  • awthe music in the beginning hurts my ears

  • No one ever called Walt Disney mad?! I plead the 5th! I have no idea what I'm saying! Guess I'm mad too!!! Beautiful castle by the way! :D

  • The guy at the end makes sense!{ I hope " they aren't coming to take me away"}!

  • ich war da und es war wunderschön

  • hmmmmm why is it so famous?

  • It is in Germany!!

  • The most famous castle made by a mademan but only to the german government Ludwig was an architeture with ideas that only he understood and when he presented his works to the kaiser he was killed or this may have actually been suicide we will never know

  • I'm so excited about going there. Only a few more days...

  • So....How was it?

  • It was great. Beautiful castle, both inside and out. :) I highly recommend touring it.

  • That's wonderful, I'm glad you a had a good time. Europe is so rich in culture and antiquities and a very deep history. I must admit I feel somehow cheated that my German relatives migrated here (U.S.) in the early 1900's. We're related to the Messerschmitts on my fathers side. I'm trying to flesh out the details but it's a little difficult because so much of the family changed either their name or the spelling in order to disassociate themselves from Willy.

  • Yes, Europe is great, especially since I have a keen fascination with history. I don't know too much about my family history, but I do know I'm descended from Austrian nobility and then somebody from Russia as well. I'm curious at to whether it was pre-revolution or not.

  • That's very cool! I' live in the south (Fl.) but was raised in N.J.. Up north it seemed people were more in touch with there nationality and ancestral roots whereas in the south most white folks have very little knowledge or interest about these things. Primarily there is a strong Scotch-Irish background you can also see this in the slave names. There are a lot of black people with Scotch-Irish names: Mcintosh, Mcneal, O'conner etc.. Many Euro-Americans have allowed our cultures to drown and die

  • that's because he was only copying... ;)

  • This is so cool. I was there when I was 17 and it truly is a fairytale castle. Nutjob former occupant, but marvelous castle. ;-)
