The flamenco style was highly influenced by the romani gypsies that came through Spain, by way of India/North Africa/Morocco, on their way into other European countries. (they also followed a northern route through eastern europe) This process took centuries. In Spain, I believe they were referred to as the Gitano.

The word 'kali' tripped me up but I'd dare to say that the writer got it wrong (used the wrong word).
