Christina chooses to put power behind notes that are not really necessary to do so. Also, Kelly belts much greater than Christina does but Christina i feel, has a more power range than Kelly while Kelly's natural range would kill Xtina. I feel that Kelly is better between the 2 because Christina is singing her voice away. kelly is preserving hers.
She did NOT strain, at all, what so ever, so please get over it. It was a sound performance, and due to the fact it was Christina and the excessive use of her usual customary and seemigly shouty technique, it was pretty solid. She did no screaming, straining, and listening back I heard no sound or indication of her suppressing her larynx at all. Wo I have no idea what you're talking about there. Then you said a scratchy sound? What scratchy sound? Next time listen&hear rather than plain hear.

@kelvinpyaeko Aguilera doesn't strain as much as you deludedly believe, and she rarely chokes, extremely rare. Clarkson has a very good voice, excellent resonance and ease with her notes, but she doesn't have the strength and melisma Aguilera has, much less her range, and I consider that more important than all of Clarkson's abilities. Either way, I like them both, it's not the same issue as with Lipriah.

Actually, I can find a quite a few of Christina's performances where she doesn't strain, so don't indulge in the lie that she does it consistantly throughout all of her performances. In this video Christina compeltely stomps Kelly, though I believe the maker of this video to be very biased seeing as he used some of Christina's best belts as opposed to Kelly's. They're both extrordinary singers, however I prefer Kelly to Christina anyday due to the fact she's skilled and not as vocally limited.

I believe that kelly using christina's technique (whatever it is... im gonna call it supported by the throat) could go way higher.

Christina takes everything up to E5, then Kelly takes everything after that, but her F5 in this vid is off a little, but we all know that she can belt an F5 better than that. But still Christina's Voice has more soul and Vocal experts say Xtina has one of the best voices, But Kelly's vocal range is much greater in terms of chest voice, and pours emotion into her singing. @CarloHI Um... Actually, Kelly takes the entire fifth octave. Xtina cannot sing anything above C5 without straining and yelling. From C#5-E5, Xtina yells and shouts. F5 and above, she starts yelping. Even if she doesn't yelp her F5s, she strains like hell and cracks most of the time. I do believe that Xtina has a great voice, but she just doesn't know how to sing and use it properly...

@mariotl actually I'd say Christina has a slightly better technique than Kelly in my opinion... Kelly's comfort vocal range is between G3 to G5 and Christina's is between Eb3 to D5 (no the Eb5s are thin mixes) and yet she manages to belt G5s and G#5s live and studio. That's 7 semi-steps while kelly's highest belt is a C6 which is 6 semi-steps only hit once recently. I believe that kelly using christina's technique (whatever it is... im gonna call it supported by the throat) could go way higher.

They really have such different voices. Christina's strength is in the lower part of her range, whereas Kelly has superior upper register clarity and control.
Even their tones go in opposite directions: Christina's is thick, and, at its best, a golden yellow, whereas Kelly's is agile and a smoky purplish pink lined with silver.
I think that both of them have declined, but the decline has hit Christina harder. Her range has been noticeably reduced while Kelly's is still mostly intact.
