email Ron Paul (above ) and ask Him to Run. He has the backing of the American People. Let him know that we want a True American not a usurper and his croonies.
Netherland & Switzerland, 99% coverage and no public plan, but insurance companies are regulated like utility companies. Taiwan & Singapore have best medical care system in the world, 99% coverage, high quality, NO WAITING, and they are government run with less 5% GDP. Unreasonable premium, preexisting condition exclusion, changing drug formulary, deny treatment, medicare drug GAP for Senior are just plain wrong. Come on my fellow American, let us fix the healthcare for our children sakes!
Ron paul probably ain't living in the real world. You see in the real world where i live, i.e. Denmark. Government run healthcare is free covers everyone and has been for over 40 years. Ron Paul is funded by the private healthcare industry ofcause he says that universal healthcare is bad.
98% of people's welfare is payed for by the 2% richest people, who still have more money then most people so it's okay, why would i care, i live 10 times better then 90% of americans, enjoy your illusion of having low taxes means having alot of money, hah paying thease taxes mean i don't pay for all that stuff you have to do, and if i get sick it's never a problem, Ever.
Actually i have not been trained, i am a trainer in the jewish illuminati communist world conspiratorial anti ron paul probaganda section 2. We are doing tremendous progress in our attempt to take over the world via universal healthcare. As we say in the illuminati "Their universal healthcare, our ticket to world domination."
Since his 1963 evasion to Canada as he avoided the draft. Under the Canadian health system they are running crtiticly low on anti-depressants. Therefore due to his age he has been denied refills.
We hope to extradite him and court martial him for his treasonous act of avoiding his patriotic duty!
Ron Paul's name spelled backward is Luap Nor, which is his Klingon name. He was sent here to mind-fuck the population and soften us up for the invasion.
Only slightly less believable is that health care reform to bring affordable HC to millions is a "government takeover" and "socialism".
it's about time that ron paul and his army get into the real fight that's underway now and not any bogus diversions about the fed or h1n1 or the price of tea in chinatown
I like Ron Paul, but I have to disagree with him. Insurance companies have proven again and again over the course of decades that they are not responsible enough to be left in charge of American lives.
Insurance companies have no fear of retribution for refusing healthcare services for which they have already been paid.
The Government can lose power because it is controlled by the people. The people have the power to vote and too give/take power.
Is the Government responsible enough to be in charge of your life?
Are you?
"The Government can lose power because it is controlled by the people"
The people lose power because they are controlled by the Government.
Your rights are being stripped away. You have limited recourse, and maybe that's why you feel the Government should back you up, but as they're the ones taking away our rights and our money I doubt they're on our side.
"The people have the power to vote" for those allowed to run
(looks at taxes...looks at how much private insurers scam us for services they end up denying. ... taxes create (or supposed) to great a better country with higher standards of living (which it has compared to most countries), private insurance money goes towards big boats for corporate fatcats, also looking at rights taken away this year (theres an empty table), looks back at many new tax breaks that will help out next year)...and I keep most of my money earned- No sir, your wrong
When my Mother passed away her hospital bills were over $800,000 - we had to pay only $3,000 and it was a painless process.
The IRS on the other hand was the most irritating because I had to fill out the same forms 5 times even after I drove hours to present them in person. I had to repeat the same info to several people in many states, and was treated like a lowlife because I wanted to pay my Mom's taxes.
We don't have a free market in insurance, but I'd take that over Govt. "help" any day.
well good for you. Sounds like you just had a problem with red tape and IRS complications (which will always exist). I can understand that . But the government is supposed to help you and me when privateers cant..like when your house is on fire, you get robbed, your child cant afford private school, your civil rights are being violated, a disaster hits- you can smack away the govs hand, but that will not make your life any easier.
My rights are being stripped away and violated by my Government, the media tells me I should appreciate it and beg for more, and my court system is bought and paid for with my tax dollars.
actually the courts paid for by your tax dollars protect your rights..but never mind that. Tell me - which rights were you being or were stripped of? Tell me - I'm all ears.
Ron Paul is something you rarely find these days, an honest politician. Let's see how screwed up the country is after Barry's first term in office. Ron Paul will be looking good compared to another Obama term.
Most of you idiots supporting the Obama plan are old people anyways who are in the position to be speaking, but most people (myself included) cannot afford higher taxes and a further decrease in the standard of living. Inflation hurts the little guy 10x more than it hurts anyone else, so it's easy for someone to say "raise the taxes for healthcare" when they have the money to pay for it. It's easy to say "I dont mind giving up a little".
I DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO GIVE UP,what about the little guy?
Oh god most of the trolls commenting would rather pay more taxes and decrease the standard of living... isn't it amazing the only thing you guys can come up with is that RP has a government health plan... You guys say nothing about the dollar collapse, and seemingly could care less if this country goes into a black hole... Personally, I'd rather have the right to a job and to keep that job then to healthcare, if the standard of living goes up then people like me CAN afford healthcare...
He does refuse his pension and has been doing so throughout his political career.
"To participate in a pension plan at taxpayers expense would for me be hypocritical and immoral. I hope everyone in the 105th Congress will do as I have done: reject the pension and prepare for retirement without burdening the taxpayers for decades to come. To do any less is to perpetuate what is at it's most basic level an arrogant insult to the people we were elected to represent."
Ummm... you really should do some real research before you make a fool out of yourself by quoting mistruths. Ron Paul DOES NOT use the congressional health plan or any other meaningful government program for that matter. He helped all his children pay through college without any of them resorting to federal loans. Paul DONATES 10% of his congressional budget back to the US gov every year.
You didn't happen to read a press release by a certain Dem. Congressman did you?
Ron Paul is sick and twisted. He banters the word freedom a lot, but if you listen carefully it's clear that by freedom he means the end of all regulation.
He supports freedom and dramatically lower regulation across the board. Of course this is obvious to anyone who has a 3rd grade reading comprehension and reads an entire page of just about anything he's ever written.
we need to tell tell the right wing fundamentlist that they cant scare us into believeing their fear propagada anymore we know what they are doing they wont like it when we fire back so let em keep sticking their feet in their mouth well be right as always especially when reform works then they re going to look really stupid
Do you have any idea what you're talking about? ANY idea?
Ron Paul spoke out MORE than 99% of the Dems' AGAINST Bush's fear mongering leading to the Patriot, Iraq war, and many other things. He took the same stance in OPPOSITION to all bailouts. Ron Paul has been warning about the possibility of the global crisis we're in now for more than 30 YEARS, and warned specifically about this one as early as 2003.
All you dumbass people who think the gov can make healthcare more affordable,if they are off on their number,as they were on their number for medacare and it costs almost ten times more,as medicare did, then are you going to complain if healthcare ends up costing ten trillion dollars, or will you just blame Bush for your own parties mistakes as always?
It's not the "government", it's the actual provisions of this bill, including for examples the focus on and increased funding of preventative & primary care medical procedures, electronic records to prevent duplication, a medical expert advisory board to study (not mandate) & provide statistical info. on what procedures produce the best results, and yes, a public option to compete with the private insurance companies.
We must Bail Out Insurance Companies & Big Pharma They need our Help. It will create more jobs of administrators and paper pushers . also out soarse more jobs to China . Green Shoots We need Big Carbon Tax to help out Wall Street Banks, VAT tax on every thing Grown & Produced
I like Ron Paul, but i disagree with him on this issue. A step towards socialized healthcare will bring a reduction in cost overall. I think too many people underestimate the huge burden of cost the uninsured place on the american people and how effective preventative care is over emergency care. This is only possible though socialized medicine. If you disagree, look at ANY other leading nation with socialized healthcare, you'll see they have dramaticly more affordable healthcare.
There is more to the issue than the "burden" of the uninsured/preventative medicine. Many of these uninsured would LOVE health care--if they could afford it. THAT IS THE REAL PROBLEM.
Health insurance is priced out of many people's budget because costs have been driven up on purpose by these for-profit companies. (I've read where this bill only feeds this system even more.)
Bottom line: it CANNOT be good, to hand over ANYTHING over to the federal gov't.
Excuse me but last year alone it is estimated medicare/medicaid wasted over $200 billion on fraud and abuse. No for profit company would allow that kind of fraud and abuse. You pay for medicare fraud and abuse every week out of your check. That is suppose to go into a savings for you when you retire but is used now because of high cost of fraud and abuse. Medicare is broke as well as SS. How do you like congress borrowing your SS for things like a cowgirl museam in texas?
Everyone needs to have access to affordable HC and everyone should contribute according to their ability. Lower income premium assistance is available through the bill. I am NOT in favor of the fine system, though. The most efficient and fairest way would be through the progressive income tax system. But even though that would be the most efficient system, GOP would sqawk "tax increase", so we are left with a fine system for those who don't want to have insurance.
So repeal that socialist policy of "forcing" emergency wards to provide treatment.
A nation where anyone, regardless of income, has access to affordable health care (not just emergency room stabilization) is something the nation could be proud of. Your attitude is something no one should be proud of. Under your system only the generous need contribute, the greedy need not.
Emergency wards charge their patients for services rendered. So your point is? What worries me is you advocate legalizing theft. In a system driven by charity, greed runs rampant (i.e. communism). In a system driven by greed, charity is encouraged (i.e. capitalism).
Stop using Interstate Highway system. Take helicopter flights to work or wherever you have to go. Interstate Highway system is also a big socialist project built and maintained by "forced tax" from you.
Thats like saying a landlord raising rent is theft.
You pay rent to live in the country. If you dont like paying rent.. you can leave the country. Just like you can leave an apartment if you think the rent is too high.
If you want to live a luxurious lifestyle (ie better apartment) you have to pay more rent.
Your view of the people paying rent to the federal government in order to live in this country is quite sad. I suggest you look up and read some information about the founding of this nation, the constitution of this nation, and the conditions of English rule that caused the American Revolution. We the People are sovereign in this nation and are not residents or subjects to be ruled over by the federal government. I would suggest those who want socialism look elsewhere, and leave us alone.
There isn't a single credible body that has said this reform will do anything but cost the nation more money. The reliable and non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimated at least 1 Trillion in new costs in the following 10 years from the Dem's plan.
You should look more closely at all the nations you're referring to. The NHS is the UK is not sustainable and there's broad support for it's reduction. Many of the European nations are in worse financial shape than the US is.
Did you also happen to notice that the CBO said that the HC bill would reduce the deficit, and even more so over time. Did you happen to notice that the CBO said the public option alone would reduce the deficit by $100 billion?
Or would you just prefer the standard GOP tactic of cherry picking numbers so that you can put your own spin on them?
I'm not sure where I stand on health care. Obviously there's a problem. I oppose big government and big government spending, but any for profit insurance company will not have the health of the patient as the bottom line. So I have no idea what a solution would be. Could a non-profit healthcare company work? Other non-profit businesses such as charities seem to have their place and function reasonably well.
I didn't elect Obama and I'm an American person. Don't speak for everyone please. The people who end up in power are not the people who people truly elect. They're forced to vote between two heads of the same hydra that sells them out later down the line.
blame Ron Paul, he chose to be a Republican and take part in the Republican Primary which he bottomed out doing. Our country can do three party runner ups...or does nobody remember Ross Perot..
I didn't elect Obama. Democracy: codification of mob rule; institutionalized tyranny by the majority; The minority constantly oppressed by the majority. The principles of freedom, the natural rights of man, supercede the oppressions of any government, including democracy. Government has no moral authority to exert any more control over an individual then an individual has to exert control over his neighbor. Man has rights to his own life, to choose his own path, free from theft of his labors.
of these Paultards don't care...they think they are the center of the universe with a very narrow point of view. They act like American people actually wanted Ron Paul and his really radical ideas that could never be pulled off even if he was President.
To be consistent with the counterinsurgency (COIN) policy now deemed essential to achieve victory in the likes of Afghanistan, the US is somewhat obliged to tackle the domestic insurgency of freedom loving Americans, by countering with a public healthcare initiative. This is another aspect of the unintended consequences of unfettered Foreign Policy, foreseen by the Founding Fathers, when they drafted the Constitution.
As the pubic option is discussed the insurance company stocks go down, every time it looks as if the public option is dead insurance stocks go up. That should tell you something. Although Ron Paul make some good points, like all "pure" ideologues whether capitalist of socialist, he lives in a Utopian dream world.
Do you understand what's happening to our nation now that the US dollar is on the verge of losing it's world reserve status?
Do you any idea how much lower your quality of life and the quality of life of EVERY SINGLE PERSON you care about that lives in the US will be?
How exactly do you propose to convince our creditors, such as China, to pay for an expansion of our health care? There's a global crisis and they have their own people to worry about.
The US is a country in decline. Built on cheap energy & oil exports & fed by massive immigration & consumer demand. Now, it imports the oil, manufacturing sector gutted, real wages & standard of living in decline, hated by much of the world. I'd almost feel sorry for it if it wasn't for selfish slugs like you who deserve every bit of it. You spout your bullshit while thinking nothing of the thousands of fellow citizens that die each year from lack of affordable health care.
Wow, you've made a lot of assumptions there. None of which are true. I'm not sure where you live, but we don't have cheap oil; we pay inflated prices created by OPEC and monetary expansion. 2ndly, cheap energy, immigration, and consumer demand are all healthy parts of a growing economy. We're in decline because the Federal Reserve has engaged in decades of monetary expansion and we've overspent on all levels both privately and publicly, leaving us with a structurally unbalanced economy.
According to the Associated Press, the Insurance companies have about a 6% profit margin, which is not very high. Compared to Coca-Cola, with a 32% profit margin.
Profit is after deducting the multimillion $ CEO salaries & corporate jets, and after the 20% to 30% administration expenses, a large part of which is devoted to advertising, devising complicated & misleading fine print in contracts, and fighting payment of claims.
So take that, plus the profit margin, in absolute dollars & see how much this industry is sucking out of $ that would have otherwise gone to health care.
The administrative costs of a government run plan, such as medicare, are higher on a per person basis. As a percentage, yes, they are lower, but that is because of greater medical expenditures on older and sicker patients.
"...fine print in contracts ... " - the government is much worse when it comes to this, which is why most people cannot do taxes by themselves.
I'm not saying the private sector is perfect by any means, but is is much better than government management.
I know all that, but you''re missing the forest for the trees. We want a pub. non-profit plan to ensure the private co's don't figure out a way to hose us. Doesnt' even matter if it's not as efficient. It operates off premiums & has a cushion since it's non-profit. Also, it wouldn't be run by some politician, but rather corp. exec's from professional recruiting, same as for private co.'s. Another benefit is if it's not providing good service, call your congressman. Try that w/ a private co.
If you claim to be unaware of the measures in this bill that bring cost curves down for existing policy holders who are "happy with their HC" and guarantees to ensure that those happy people don't fall victim to insurance company abuses, then listen to sources other than Fox News or GOP speeches.
I'd be amazed if they didn't. Obama bailed out the auto industry & different opinions about that, but it did preserve the mega-manufacturing infrastructure. He also is putting funds into developing new manufacturing in renewable and clean energy technologies. But until something is done about the unfair (to citizens, not to corporations) trade agreements - it's a losing battle.
Why do you supply the rest of the health care oligopoly? Why do you support the AMA, AHA, and insurance co. colluding to control the prices of all health care? How exactly will the prices of health care when the AMA, and AHA price controls are protected under the Democratic plan? How do you plan to convince China, Japan, and Russia, our creditors, to pay for expansion of healthcare in the US? They've already signaled they're sick of lending the US gov enough money to keep it afloat.
If a private company isn't providing good service, there is a strong incentive for someone else to provide a better service, since a lot of people will switch and the company that provides a better service makes more profit. That's competition. Since the insurance companies can't sell across state lines, and they are exempt from anti-trust legislation, there is little competition.
There are non-profit insurance companies, like mine - Blue Cross Blue Shield, which provide cheaper services, etc.
"...if it's not providing good service, call your congressman."
If that works so well, why do we have problems with medicare/medicaid, social security, education, etc. Yes, people can influence congress to some extent, but special interests have much more influence than individuals do.
IMF is selling 500 tons of gold because they are so glorious noble just and right
they are benevolent godlike creatures sacrificing themselves for you They are not in any way hoping to get all that gold back for pennies on the dollar when new global currency is established Are they ? Bwahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Maybe all of the (our?) members of Congress will suddenly start laying golden eggs....big solid pure gold eggs, tomorrow to pay for their Health Care Bill...Pelosi lays an egg every day.
This terrible reform does not even cover everyone anyway! Plus it is not free! Taxes will go up, the national debt shall rise and it is just one thing - A Government Power grab of yet another private sector! This bill shall destroy our healthcare sytem and will be one more step towards communism! This will be another win for the New World Order!
A sad, sad day in American history. . .
Call Nancy Pelosi (202) 225-0100 and tell her how much the American People are NOT for her Healthcare Reform!
He sounds so depressed on this message. This health care bill must have really brought down his mood. I can't believe how many stupid Americans we have here that allow themselves to be brainwashed into being cheerleaders for the direction of our government. It makes me sick...
I know it's the 8th today, but Dr. Paul often records his Texas Straight Talk phone messages a day in a advance. If you listen to the beginning, he mentions it's for Nov 9th.
This is exactly what was pushed 10 years ago in Puerto Rico, where they used to have government managed healthcare where everyone was covered and it was low cost because they could negotiate prices. Then trough propaganda people where made believe the system, was bad and they needed a health reform. That health reform (universal healthcare) ended low cost healthcare in Puerto Rico by hiring insurance companies. It covered the bottom part (poor people) only and costs 5 times more to maintain.
The people paying for it, namely the tax payers comprising the middle class, do not qualify and have to buy their own insurance; in other words they are picking the tab for the one third below them that do not pay taxes (including the 1/2 million people living there illegally) and they do not benefit form it.
Today the ever shrinking middle class in Puerto Rico is being bombarded to no end with ever rising taxes to sustain that universal health care system. The health system itself is a terrible joke, a lot of people go without health services and those who are covered are very often denied. The island is today is considered a third world country.
Look at medical care in USSR. Dental care without anesthesia, no joke. Old medical equipment, etc. But it still functioned due to Russia's generally healthy population. United States has a LOT of sick people, probably one of the sickest 1st world nations in the world! So the pressure here will be a LOT greater than even in the USSR. Everything will experience a total loss of quality, and that's not to say that waiting time in an avg US emergency rooms is already 4 hrs, NYC=6-8 hrs.
charles manson ate breakfast. If you eat breakfast does that mean you are charles manson?
Learn some basic logic and reasoning. Somalia is pure free market... does that mean advocating free market ideals means you admire somalia? of course not. Stop parading baseless claims as logic.
I don't know what socialist crack pipe you're smoking, but I was simply making a point that USSR medical care was very poor, US has more people and more sick people than USSR had, thus logically the pressure will be greater. What is not logical in that statement? What does manson have to do with it? There will certainly be more Mansons because the psychiatric care will suffer as well.
logically the means to service people factors in there somewhere. The US is a much wealthier nation. According to your theory, whichever country has the smallest population (the fewest sick) should have the worlds best healthcare.
That's actually not so. US used to be the wealthiest nation, now we're the biggest debtor nation in the history of the world with very few natural resources to exploit. I did not say that the smallest population should have the world's best health care, simply that logically, the less sick and the healthier the nation is, the less crowding there is in the hospitals and the less treatment you need generally. That's just common sense.
IF US has such a great medical care system, why does it cost 1000$ for a root canal compared to an identical procedure done in Canada for 1/2 the cost, or in Switzerland for example for 1/4 the cost? Why is the average waiting time in US exceed 4 hours now? You think that number will shrink with free care for million of people and millions more illegals being given the right to use the system? You think that'll make it better?
yes. Because most people use the ER as their primary care physicians. Getting people on the ranks of health insurance will put them into doctor's offices and take them out of emergency rooms.
Into overcrowded hospitals with low standards, 3rd world health care that will fail to keep up with technology and government "sanctioned" healthcare pay. This was already tried in the USSR, it failed and people were still forced to pay for medicine and medical care in the end or suffer not getting a bed in the hospital or the drug they need.
whats with you and the USSR? USSR hasnt existed for a long time. USSR also didnt have personal computers, must be because they were communists... Our founding fathers also didnt have personal computers... must mean they were communists.
Ok ill play your game. Look at the government free pure free market country of somalia.... their healthcare sucks.
The reason it costs so much less in socialized healthcare systems is because of the use of price controls. They say what the healthcare budget is going to be, and everyone has to comply. We don't use price controls, so the cost is higher, but the amount of money and government oversight in the socialized systems must also be factored in.
the warlords are CEO's of privately owned military forces.... AKA free market corporations.
Apparently you dont understand what a free market is.... because that is the free market in action. The private sector runs the military in Somalia... thats just an example of how an unregulated private sector works. Doesn't matter what title you give to the head of the organization: president, CEO, warlord. Like every company, it has an owner, and employees.
No, you don't understand what a free market is. If you read "The Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith, he states that the free market needs three things: Peace, easy taxes, and justice. Since Somalia has none of those three things it is not a free market.
There is a big difference between a warlord and a greedy CEO. If a CEO wants something from you, only you have the power to give it to him, assuming you haven't broken the law, but if the warlord wants something, you either give it to him or die
It's not, and a completely free market has never been advocated. The government has a very important, but limited role - To insure justice and protect us from foreign invasion. The government has no business in things that can better be done by private companies.
i agree. and if the free market could handle health insurance better than the government then i absolutely would agree the government should stay out of it. But as we can see from other countries... government can provide health insurance much cheaper. And you can say their healthcare isnt as good or whatever. But their healthcare covers everyone, for half price. If foreign countries doubled their healthcare spending to match ours... they would be vastly superior.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
fuck ron paul and alex johns they are liars and hypocrites they just want to do their own little party and get people to vote for them do you actually think the government is going to take over the world with who ? and what power ? the army and no other force is going to do that, they have family just like we do and. even the people who work in the government. you have to be sick to believe this crap. Stop smoking so much weed, or whatever it is that make you guys say all these moronic things.
Open your eyes, take off those rose-colored glasses, claw your way out of your media-inflicted stupor, and get your drooling tongue off the boots of your imperious masters.
What you need to realize is that Ron Paul is actually fighting for YOUR rights and he's one of the few in a position to do so.
Either offer him the respect he deserves, or shut up and hide in your comfy little cage.
You probably are so damn frightened that you are actually in denial or cognitive dissonance. No worries. I have been there myself. But I had the courage to man up to the facts. Will you?
You are the one who is crazy iSMENiqqUH! The Global Elitsts want nothing more than to become the rulers of the world. They want power and control and to turn us into (even more) their slaves and once they have it all and own every private sector that is when depopulation begins. Wake up! You have to understand that these people do not think like normal human beings do. They have no empathy for you or anyone! They are pure evil and you have to be high NOT to see what they are trying to do!

But reading the comments on this tread he obviously attracts more than his share of crackpots.

Ron Paul's name spelled backward is Luap Nor, which is his Klingon name. He was sent here to mind-fuck the population and soften us up for the invasion.
Only slightly less believable is that health care reform to bring affordable HC to millions is a "government takeover" and "socialism".

The people lose power because they are controlled by the Government.
Your rights are being stripped away. You have limited recourse, and maybe that's why you feel the Government should back you up, but as they're the ones taking away our rights and our money I doubt they're on our side.

greatgaara 2 years ago
When my Mother passed away her hospital bills were over $800,000 - we had to pay only $3,000 and it was a painless process.
The IRS on the other hand was the most irritating because I had to fill out the same forms 5 times even after I drove hours to present them in person. I had to repeat the same info to several people in many states, and was treated like a lowlife because I wanted to pay my Mom's taxes.
We don't have a free market in insurance, but I'd take that over Govt. "help" any day.

It's not the "government", it's the actual provisions of this bill, including for examples the focus on and increased funding of preventative & primary care medical procedures, electronic records to prevent duplication, a medical expert advisory board to study (not mandate) & provide statistical info. on what procedures produce the best results, and yes, a public option to compete with the private insurance companies.

CetraTJ 2 years ago
There is more to the issue than the "burden" of the uninsured/preventative medicine. Many of these uninsured would LOVE health care--if they could afford it. THAT IS THE REAL PROBLEM.
Health insurance is priced out of many people's budget because costs have been driven up on purpose by these for-profit companies. (I've read where this bill only feeds this system even more.)
Bottom line: it CANNOT be good, to hand over ANYTHING over to the federal gov't.
JohnLeeMD 2 years ago
Insurance, while providing a lower cost to the individual, creates a higher cost overall by introducing administration and fraud costs.
freakawill2000 2 years ago
Excuse me but last year alone it is estimated medicare/medicaid wasted over $200 billion on fraud and abuse. No for profit company would allow that kind of fraud and abuse. You pay for medicare fraud and abuse every week out of your check. That is suppose to go into a savings for you when you retire but is used now because of high cost of fraud and abuse. Medicare is broke as well as SS. How do you like congress borrowing your SS for things like a cowgirl museam in texas?

megarational 2 years ago
So what about taxes and fines imposed on those without health care? Where do they go?
freakawill2000 2 years ago
Everyone needs to have access to affordable HC and everyone should contribute according to their ability. Lower income premium assistance is available through the bill. I am NOT in favor of the fine system, though. The most efficient and fairest way would be through the progressive income tax system. But even though that would be the most efficient system, GOP would sqawk "tax increase", so we are left with a fine system for those who don't want to have insurance.
megarational 2 years ago
Everyone should pull their own weight.
If people want to help others, that is their choice and I think it is wonderful. But forcing "generosity" is theft.
freakawill2000 2 years ago
So repeal that socialist policy of "forcing" emergency wards to provide treatment.
A nation where anyone, regardless of income, has access to affordable health care (not just emergency room stabilization) is something the nation could be proud of. Your attitude is something no one should be proud of. Under your system only the generous need contribute, the greedy need not.
megarational 2 years ago
@megarational
Emergency wards charge their patients for services rendered. So your point is? What worries me is you advocate legalizing theft. In a system driven by charity, greed runs rampant (i.e. communism). In a system driven by greed, charity is encouraged (i.e. capitalism).

You pay rent to live in the country. If you dont like paying rent.. you can leave the country. Just like you can leave an apartment if you think the rent is too high.
If you want to live a luxurious lifestyle (ie better apartment) you have to pay more rent.
mark1m 2 years ago

Raising taxes and then giving that money to someone else is.
freakawill2000 2 years ago

MKeyserSoze 2 years ago
Your view of the people paying rent to the federal government in order to live in this country is quite sad. I suggest you look up and read some information about the founding of this nation, the constitution of this nation, and the conditions of English rule that caused the American Revolution. We the People are sovereign in this nation and are not residents or subjects to be ruled over by the federal government. I would suggest those who want socialism look elsewhere, and leave us alone.
historian65616 2 years ago
There isn't a single credible body that has said this reform will do anything but cost the nation more money. The reliable and non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimated at least 1 Trillion in new costs in the following 10 years from the Dem's plan.
You should look more closely at all the nations you're referring to. The NHS is the UK is not sustainable and there's broad support for it's reduction. Many of the European nations are in worse financial shape than the US is.
bobjman 2 years ago
Did you also happen to notice that the CBO said that the HC bill would reduce the deficit, and even more so over time. Did you happen to notice that the CBO said the public option alone would reduce the deficit by $100 billion?
Or would you just prefer the standard GOP tactic of cherry picking numbers so that you can put your own spin on them?
megarational 2 years ago
I'm not sure where I stand on health care. Obviously there's a problem. I oppose big government and big government spending, but any for profit insurance company will not have the health of the patient as the bottom line. So I have no idea what a solution would be. Could a non-profit healthcare company work? Other non-profit businesses such as charities seem to have their place and function reasonably well.

I didn't elect Obama. Democracy: codification of mob rule; institutionalized tyranny by the majority; The minority constantly oppressed by the majority.

You spout your bullshit while thinking nothing of the thousands of fellow citizens that die each year from lack of affordable health care.
megarational 2 years ago
Wow, you've made a lot of assumptions there. None of which are true. I'm not sure where you live, but we don't have cheap oil; we pay inflated prices created by OPEC and monetary expansion. 2ndly, cheap energy, immigration, and consumer demand are all healthy parts of a growing economy. We're in decline because the Federal Reserve has engaged in decades of monetary expansion and we've overspent on all levels both privately and publicly, leaving us with a structurally unbalanced economy.

Or is your plan, as costs continue to rise, simply to cover fewer and fewer Americans with affordable heath care?
megarational 2 years ago
According to the Associated Press, the Insurance companies have about a 6% profit margin, which is not very high. Compared to Coca-Cola, with a 32% profit margin.
xp19375 2 years ago
Profit is after deducting the multimillion $ CEO salaries & corporate jets, and after the 20% to 30% administration expenses, a large part of which is devoted to advertising, devising complicated & misleading fine print in contracts, and fighting payment of claims.
So take that, plus the profit margin, in absolute dollars & see how much this industry is sucking out of $ that would have otherwise gone to health care.
megarational 2 years ago
The administrative costs of a government run plan, such as medicare, are higher on a per person basis. As a percentage, yes, they are lower, but that is because of greater medical expenditures on older and sicker patients.
"...fine print in contracts ... " - the government is much worse when it comes to this, which is why most people cannot do taxes by themselves.
I'm not saying the private sector is perfect by any means, but is is much better than government management.
xp19375 2 years ago
I know all that, but you''re missing the forest for the trees. We want a pub. non-profit plan to ensure the private co's don't figure out a way to hose us. Doesnt' even matter if it's not as efficient. It operates off premiums & has a cushion since it's non-profit. Also, it wouldn't be run by some politician, but rather corp. exec's from professional recruiting, same as for private co.'s. Another benefit is if it's not providing good service, call your congressman. Try that w/ a private co.

They've already signaled they're sick of lending the US gov enough money to keep it afloat.
bobjman 2 years ago
If a private company isn't providing good service, there is a strong incentive for someone else to provide a better service, since a lot of people will switch and the company that provides a better service makes more profit. That's competition. Since the insurance companies can't sell across state lines, and they are exempt from anti-trust legislation, there is little competition.
There are non-profit insurance companies, like mine - Blue Cross Blue Shield, which provide cheaper services, etc.
xp19375 2 years ago

This is exactly what was pushed 10 years ago in Puerto Rico, where they used to have government managed healthcare where everyone was covered and it was low cost because they could negotiate prices. Then trough propaganda people where made believe the system, was bad and they needed a health reform. That health reform (universal healthcare) ended low cost healthcare in Puerto Rico by hiring insurance companies. It covered the bottom part (poor people) only and costs 5 times more to maintain.
werebear1 2 years ago
The people paying for it, namely the tax payers comprising the middle class, do not qualify and have to buy their own insurance; in other words they are picking the tab for the one third below them that do not pay taxes (including the 1/2 million people living there illegally) and they do not benefit form it.
werebear1 2 years ago

Stop parading baseless claims as logic.
mark1m 2 years ago
I don't know what socialist crack pipe you're smoking, but I was simply making a point that USSR medical care was very poor, US has more people and more sick people than USSR had, thus logically the pressure will be greater. What is not logical in that statement? What does manson have to do with it? There will certainly be more Mansons because the psychiatric care will suffer as well.
linnx88 2 years ago
logically the means to service people factors in there somewhere. The US is a much wealthier nation. According to your theory, whichever country has the smallest population (the fewest sick) should have the worlds best healthcare.
mark1m 2 years ago
That's actually not so. US used to be the wealthiest nation, now we're the biggest debtor nation in the history of the world with very few natural resources to exploit. I did not say that the smallest population should have the world's best health care, simply that logically, the less sick and the healthier the nation is, the less crowding there is in the hospitals and the less treatment you need generally. That's just common sense.
linnx88 2 years ago

This was already tried in the USSR, it failed and people were still forced to pay for medicine and medical care in the end or suffer not getting a bed in the hospital or the drug they need.
linnx88 2 years ago
whats with you and the USSR? USSR hasnt existed for a long time. USSR also didnt have personal computers, must be because they were communists... Our founding fathers also didnt have personal computers... must mean they were communists.
Ok ill play your game. Look at the government free pure free market country of somalia.... their healthcare sucks.
mark1m 2 years ago
Why? Government intervention, that's why.
sirachman 2 years ago
The reason it costs so much less in socialized healthcare systems is because of the use of price controls. They say what the healthcare budget is going to be, and everyone has to comply. We don't use price controls, so the cost is higher, but the amount of money and government oversight in the socialized systems must also be factored in.

4 hours for an emergency room visit that is.

Somalia is not a free market. The warlords control everything.
Second, you need more that a free market for prosperity; you also need peace and justice, which is another reason why Somalia is the way it is.
xp19375 2 years ago
the warlords are CEO's of privately owned military forces....
Its free market paradise over there.
mark1m 2 years ago
No, you don't understand what a free market is. If you read "The Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith, he states that the free market needs three things: Peace, easy taxes, and justice. Since Somalia has none of those three things it is not a free market.
There is a big difference between a warlord and a greedy CEO. If a CEO wants something from you, only you have the power to give it to him, assuming you haven't broken the law, but if the warlord wants something, you either give it to him or die
xp19375 2 years ago
why cant a CEO kill me... because we have a socialized military.
socialized military is not free market.
mark1m 2 years ago
It's not, and a completely free market has never been advocated. The government has a very important, but limited role - To insure justice and protect us from foreign invasion. The government has no business in things that can better be done by private companies.
xp19375 2 years ago
i agree. and if the free market could handle health insurance better than the government then i absolutely would agree the government should stay out of it. But as we can see from other countries... government can provide health insurance much cheaper. And you can say their healthcare isnt as good or whatever. But their healthcare covers everyone, for half price. If foreign countries doubled their healthcare spending to match ours... they would be vastly superior.

We do not have a socialized military, we have a welfare/warfare state driven by the military industrial complex.

I just tried to read your post however I was to high.
Do what you do, I'll do what I do. It doesn't matter if you're white, black, Jewish or Hindu. That's humanity.
P.S. go bow down to Obama so maybe we will end up in a socialist society. Hope for CHANGE! not more of the same big government.

How else could he know the dollar is going to collapse and that health care is going to deteriorate and get even more expensive.
